Fitting a reverse camera - Self built DIY VW T5 camper conversion

I bought a cheap reverse camera from eBay. It cost approx £23, much cheaper than a Pioneer one! The following video is my attempt to install it.

I started doing this job, went out and bought a 9mm spline bit and it was too big. My T5 is 2008 and as all things VW, I'd recommend checking before buying additional tools or parts.

I've just started doing this job and I don't have a 9mm m9 spline socket head. I realise it's a long time since you completed this job, but do you remember where you bought your spline socket from? I'm at pains to fork out serious money for something I might only use the once. Any help would be appreciated. Great videos by the way, they've helped me so much converting my van. It's done now and the reversing camera is probably the last job I'll be doing. Cheers in advance to anyone who can help.

What did you use to extend your power wires from your camera to your tail light? I have a tailgate and the power wires aren't long enough to get to the taillight

I bought an extended loom for it and used that one... normal one was fine for a car but no good for a LWB van

Awesome video! I seem to be struggling though... :s my T5 canbus doesn’t seem to have a reverse signal cable labelled... any ideas?

I spliced my cables for the reversing sensor into the rear light bulb (which comes on when reverse is selected) - Not ideal but does the job!

G Dub TV thanks for the reply! I spliced mine into the reverse light too... it didn’t work though and looking online it seems my T5 reverse lights use PWM which the camera doesnt work with :/ bit stuck now

Slightly off topic but what size wheels have you got on your van , a friend has got the same wheels for sale they are 22'' but look huge, I don't know if they will fit

Mine are 22”, Fit some 10mm spacers and longer bolts and they’ll fit, likely foul the inner arches tho if lowered

Did you not have to use a relay? When you start the vehicle and put it in to reverse does it not flicker?

I didn’t on mine mate, it was a 2005 model, not sure if that helps

When using VW electrics be careful! this can show error codes on the CANBUS .
