Slow progress due to illness, but changed the rear wheel and made progress on the engine.

Great video Ryan, had my fingers crossed when you was freeing off the studs and screws for the carb balance. First shot of the rear wheel fitted I was like the rear sprocket on the wrong side Ryan, then as you panned out I realised you had the bike upside down.😂 Your right about the spoked wheel’s suiting the bikes look , hope you paint the engine black as it would tidy it up relatively cheaply. Always learning from your videos Ryan many thanks 😊👍👍👍👍 Also when you mentioned about the front forks being a bit weak, another option maybe to strengthen the forks with a home made bracket to incorporate another mud guard. Just a thought 😊

Thanks Jim Bo, I was certainly planning Black Frame & Engine, although this frame was originally a Red Bike, so thinking a little red here and there. :)

Anything is possible in engineering (funds permitting!) plenty of bike builders use different wheels/forks from standard but you will probably need to make spacers/bushes etc. A cheap Chinese mini-lathe is really useful, I use mine for all sorts of things, even made my own mini indicators. Keep the good work up.

Thank you. I agree it's certainly possible for someone to do this, just not sure if I can do it.. But until I either succeed or fail I don't know.

Off the top of my head I seem to remember that the wire wheels on a 400-4 were a direct swap with the comstar wheels on a 250/400 T or N, also to or from a 250 G5. Wheels, brakes, sprockets, axles , spacers the lot. I suspect that they all used the same swing arm.

Thank you Robert, I'm hoping to do a bit more research soon,,but I appreciate your input. Thanks. 😀

great Video Ryan, i know the 400/4 honda you can fit the superdream forks and wheels so you can probably fit vice versa!! but not sure good luck with the man flu

Cheers Mal, I've been told that may be possible. I'm doing more digging to find a solution that suits my needs best. Thanks 😊

I've build quite a few bikes with different wheels, forks etc. For the rear the big issues are alxe diameter and sprocket off set. All things can be achieved but at a price. You can check axle sizes by looking at sites like Wemoto that list the size of the bearings. Forks are a bit trickier as you need the headstock bearing sizes if fitting yokes as well as the dimensions of the steering stem and any threads that are on it. Check part numbers on bearings to see if the ones on yours are fitted to other models. Be surprised if they weren't. Also it's easier if you fit the wheel and yokes from the same bike otherwise you may find the wheel won't fit inbetween the forks or you need spacers made up.i think CR forks might be too long. Might be worth looking at a set from the XL range. Don't know about Honda but a lot of manufacturers have some interchangeability between model. Sticking to Honda parts could be a good first option.

Thank you Colin, that's all great advice. I'll research the bearing sizes as a good starting point and take it from there.

If you get forks and wheels for front end, you can either get forks the same diameter and distance apart, or find a yolk set as well that is the same headset dimensions. Not an easy task but possible

Thanks Chris, I'm sure it's possible, just never tried to before, so I'm slowly finding my way through the challenges.

CB350 hub will work you'll need to make your own spaces 2 times CB250 right hand spacer will work to make them both working on a caff racer (cafe racer) project myself from a CB 250 going spoke wheels

Maybe some XL forks and wheel Ryan as long as they are same diameter i suppose any manufacture ones would do ?👍
@RyansGarageUK Жыл бұрын
Thanks Derek, you're the second person to suggest looking at an XL, I'll try to find some dimensions as that could be a great shout.

A fork brace would be much easier & cheaper, although it would detract from the look of the bike.
@RyansGarageUK Жыл бұрын
Hi, I agree a brace is far easier, but it would need to be low to the wheel, that would defeat my plan to place a high mud guard to prevent mud building up and clogging the wheel. So I'm planning to continue researching alternatives so start with.

Flu time is now , seasons changing , Stick to using honda parts , how about the front end from an older XL model ? or CM 250 T foot peg hangers ?

Thanks, I don't just have Flu I have Man Flu, and that's far worse.. Thanks, I am planning on using Honda and XL will certainly be considered.

@@RyansGarageUK Its not the first time to be honest, I have watched a few of your videos, as I used to have a Superdream many years ago and loved it, until I grew up and bought a BMW 1000 !
