Fitting a TTS Sound decoder to a Hornby 08 shunter

In this video I show how easy it is to fit a TTS sound decoder into a Hornby Class 08 shunter - and by upgrading the speaker getting a great sound from what is a cheap and basic sound decoder.

I’m quite impressed with TTS sound for the 08. I’d like to get one for my Hornby 08. However, they seem to be thin on the ground.

They are at the moment, Hornby are still waiting for a delivery. I picked this one up a few months ago, so keep looking!

Just spotted that Great Eastern Models have some 08 decoders. Give them a call on 01603 431457 - not used myself, but have a good reputation.

Sounds good. Why did you replace the speaker that comes with the decoder ? Did you test compare the speaker ?

The speakers that come with TTS chips are well known for being quite poor. I did a quick test and this one is no different. It simply wasnt able to produce the range of sound it should. The new speaker gives a wide range of tone.

Impressive sound. Though I think all the diesel TTS chips are fairly good - its their steam ones that are poor.

I do like their diesel sound chips. Just wish they would do more!

Don't agree; they are actually better than it seems when you learn to use them. But as always, nobody reads the manuals.
