Just watched the video. The fact that the bushes in the Panhard rod were starting to wear is a good indication that the mounting bracket bolt holes might be going oval. The feel/wobble appears a few days later because you've torqued everything up. The axle moves side to side, the Panhard bolts loosen the wobble returns.

I worked on Defenders for over 20 years in the British Army. As already stated: CHECK THE PANHARD ROD MOUNTING BRACKET ON THE AXLE. THE BOLT HOLES CAN GO OVAL. DOESN'T TAKE MUCH TO START THE "DEATH WOBBLE" Also the LR Panhard rod is not the strongest better off changing to an aftermarket adjustable.

The only real advantage of polybushes is that they are easier to change than metalastic ones. They won't last as long and don't give as nice ride and road feel as proper ones. Bit of a false economy really!

They do seem to split opinion. Some people say things like this, but Nisse's had them on his 90 for years now and they've been great. Also as you saw in the video, the rubber ones we fitted very recently were already starting to perish.

@@TirsbaekTV Yeah I was surprised your panhard rod is going that soon, they're usually good for years.

I've got exactly the same problem. Shattered my diff offroading, replaced diff and HD shafts + CV's. Put it all together and created a wobble. Had tires balanced + lined-up. No change. Atm installing new track rod ends, panhard rod bushes, steering damper. If that doesn't fix the wobble I'm afraid it'll need a swivel rebuild :/

Bearing pre loads in the swivel housing is more often than not the cause of this.

You should have torqued up the bolts when the vehicle is laden, or at least on the ground as per the land rover manual. They should not have been torqued up with the axles hanging freely.

Thank you for a great video and channel! Could you please link to the video you are referring to, in which you swap all the bushings? (I drive a 2007 Defender 110, 300 000 km, in need of some new bushings. Would like to do the work myself.)

Have you centred the steering box, if not, do that so the power steering pump valve is in the correct position when going straight ahead, then adjust out any free play, then go and get the wheels balanced by someone who is good at wheel balancing.

It's gone. The new rims and tyres were the last upgrade in this area and seemed to have fixed it. Whether it was one or both that did it I don't know May have mentioned a wobble update in this video but can't remember: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGPTfKOCbLCEasU

You probably have done all these, but I usually check, Panhard rod bushes and the BOLT HOLES/BOLTS, wheel balancing, Swivel pin bearing preload, steering box play, loose nut on drop arm, type of steering damper (Must not have return action, only two-way resistance), wheel bearing pre-load ( no play ).

Sorry I have not seen all the video's on your wobble , Have you tried changing the steering box? My RRC had the same thing a few years ago We tried all the usual thing then my local Land rover breaker pushed a good box across the counter and said try this over the weekend, It worked so I took the old one to a specialist for a rebuilt one, When he stripped it down he found a seal inside had failed causing it to have play inside, It had only taken me six months to sort out but I had lot's of new parts on the old girl.

Yep you did but i bet these problems occured since you had it remapped.....Landy parts not made for that kind of power...@@TirsbaekTV
@TirsbaekTV
@TirsbaekTV 5 жыл бұрын
@@explora1804 I think placing the blame solely on the remap is unfair. Yes it has more power, but the way I drive it hasn't changed (I'm not drag racing it, ragging it around corners etc... It's a Defender). The remap was done almost 2 years ago, if it was detrimental then I would have had issues in the drivetrain by now but I haven't, not bushes. Don't forget that this is a 20 year old Land Rover that's covered 303,000 kilometres on and off-road now! Things like this are bound to happen when it's being used properly day in and day out.
