Fitting kenwood DMX7017DABS to my EP3 Honda Civic

Fitted a Kenwood double din stereo to my Honda Civic. This unit has CarPlay and android auto which means we can use sat nav etc.

Easiest way to remove the lower part of the centre console trim is put your fingers in the shifter rubber surround bit and pull on the back of the trim, should pop out easily👍🏻

@@1BlueGhost Can you just plug in white end of the connector (that comes with the silver facia panel), straight into the back of a double din unit, and the red and black double ends into the lead into the original plug that came from the original radio/cd player just for the basics as my double din unit is coming with the a lead plug for the back of the unit but loose wires at the other end?

Possibly not, as the wires may not be correct for the head unit. If it comes with bare wires you will more than likely have to wire it up as per the instructions. I mean if it fits you could try it but I wouldn’t like to guarantee it will work.

@@1BlueGhost I had every bloody spanner BUT the 8mm. Got one ordered for tomorrow. Tools are like socks. Always fecking missing ;) The unit I have got I have realised is plug and play with my steering controls (coming next week. Took the battery of and dont have the ability without the 8mm to see my serial code to get the radio, so have any tunes on but will tomorrow. Thanks for the reply and take care ;)

I used a kitchen palette knife to remove the lower trim piece, it's just thin enough to slide in the gap, and strong enough to remove the piece undamaged.

I don't think you needed to file down the dashboard trim bud. What you do instead is put the radio in without a cage and then bolt it on either side to those brackets which are already there. The radio will have bolt holes on either side for that purpose. I could be wrong, but that's how I think you're meant to do it there.

ah right I see yes, although would that not make it very difficult to get the wiring plugs on and off? I will have a look at it as I will be removing it all once again soon to add an under seat sub.

Does the double din drain the car battery compared to the original stereo or it makes no difference??

Correct me if I'm wrong, but surely the new stereo would screw directly to the the cage on the car? And the other cage isn't required? Lmk as I'm about to try the same thing. We've just got a 2001 Civic auto for the wife.

That is probably a better way of doing it however you can’t remove the radio without removing the whole panel. I can get to various bits of wiring I need for my additional gauges the way I’ve done it by just removing the radio so it makes it easier for me.

Found one yesterday, too..There seem to be different ones for Auto AC and Manual AC due to knob position..US ones don't seem to fit on some EU Civics.. I'll just try the one you suggested and the other one I found.. hope one of them will fit.. Cheers!

eBay, if you search ep civic double din there are quite a few that come up. Black and silver. They list them for an ep2 and ep3 so I imagine they fit any with the same dashboard

Any chance you could explain the cable adapter you bought? Guessing its necessary?

It converts the new head unit wiring to attach to the factory Honda wiring plug and play. It came with the double din surround

Dies the gps, mic and usb extender come with the product? And how did you get the usb down there?

Colo Jr yes, usb extender the gps unit and mic all come with it. I removed the ash tray and pushed the wire in through a gap I found there until I could see it where the gear selector is and then pulled it up. I’m going to move it so it’s in the centre console storage pocket under the cup holders tomorrow.
