Thanks so much for your video about Jodie's headlights. I've just fitted the warm white versions to my Mabel. The hardest part was actually removing the old BPF headlamp bowls. It took 1 1/2 hours to remove one stubborn 2BA dome headed screw... Still we got there in the end. Many thanks again for your clear and helpful video 👍

Thanks a lot for your spot on descriptions. Even a decent amount of humour here and there, which makes the video even entertaining. As an English teacher I am very fond of that😅. I now feel confident to refit the headlights on my Reliant Robin Mk1. They serm to share exactly the same type of lights. I will have to stick with H4 headlights, the German MOT is a bit picky about LED lighting. Please keep up your work, many will profit from it!

I have also upgraded my Morris Minor to LED lighting. As well as the superior light output there is much less strain on the wiring loom and charging system. An original dynamo set-up is more than adequate when using LEDs that draw so little current compared to incandescent or halogen bulbs. My headlight bulbs are direct H4 replacements from CDRC Ltd and they have no additional control unit to worry about siting. They just fit in like a halogen bulb and that's it. With regard to changing to an electronic flasher relay, I have left the original Lucas "can" type relay on the bulkhead and I have fitted an electronic flasher unit that does make the tick-tick noise of the original. This is a bit quieter than the original (or I am going a bit deaf) so I have connected to the original flasher relay connections and routed the wires back through the bulkhead to site the new electronic unit under the dashboard where I can hear it. Of course using the correct coloured wires with tracer. All is reversible if total originality is desired at a later date.

great couple of videos. These apply to sooooooo many cars that all used these headlights. My current one is a stag, but looking at your indicator arm and the green flashing light at the end, it brought back very fond memories of my morris 1100 with the headlight switch on the floor.

I've thought about fitting LED bulbs to my 75 mini but thought they won't pass an MOT, then it dawned on me I don't take it for MOT anymore haha! Great video.

They can pass MOT as long as they are properly aligned.

Since 1st March 2023 For class 3,4,5 and 7 vehicles, the defect ‘Light source and lamp not compatible’ only applies to vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986. Should a vehicle be presented for an MOT test with conversions first used before 1 April 1986 they must not be failed with immediate effect. Vehicles presented with converted halogen headlamp units first used on or after 1 April 1986 will continue to be failed. Headlamps must comply with all other requirements of the test and headlamp aim. Taken from Gov uk site

Very interesting. The huge difference between the old Minor and my modern car is the lack of space and access in the modern one. You may need to do a bit of work to fit these to a Minor, but there is plenty of space to gain access. With the two different headlight/grille options of the Minor, I always dreamt of buying one and fitting both, with the lower ones wired and optimised for driving lights. 🙂 A fellow I went to school with did this. As well as fitting B-series engine. These, and a 5-speed gearbox, being something the factory might have done, had they appreciated the benefits of more power.
@jodiethemorrisminortraveller2 жыл бұрын
You are right. Lots of room to work in the Minor. Yes, I’ve seen the combination grills with four headlights and it’s a useful mod. Not sure about the B series engine. Not a good fit. Lots of work required. A 1275 A series on a Ford 5 speed box would be my recommendation.

Very clear and easy to follow. I do have a question for you, it looks like you have an SU HIF 38/44 could you tell me what air filter you have fitted please?
@jodiethemorrisminortraveller2 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon. I have a Morris Marina 1275 engine. In that video it was the original Marina filter, but since then I’ve changed to a MED stub stack filter. Gives about another 5hp. www.med-engineering.co.uk/hif44-stub-stack-system

@@jodiethemorrisminortraveller Thanks for your reply, my traveller has a MG Midget 1275 fitted with a cone air filter. I just find it a little too noisy and am looking for a quieter solution. I have tried one from a 1275 Metro but it fouls the fuel pump and the intake is wrong. So I will have to look for a Marina one now.

LED lights on a classic car; mmm
@jodiethemorrisminortraveller2 жыл бұрын
Each to his own. It’s a personal choice. But they are undetectable apart from being brighter and safer, and for the purist it’s an easily reversible change.

@@jodiethemorrisminortraveller yes, don't poo-poo the engineer cos you never thought to do it for use in a non-classic era. My 58 traveller had no seat belt or heater, but we decked out the interior in fur, pool ball gear knob, front and rear underbody spots and jacked up rear suspension. Cost £40 and lasted 2 yrs with tax always in post and diy mot. Covered length and breadth of country with 5 17yr olds who got through : 1 engine, 1 gearbox, steering box and track rod ends. Installed electronic ignition, heater and alternator. Interior roof was a beer mat collection from the ttravellers travels, and interior wooden frame had mushrooms growing aplenty. None of the extras cost a bean (engine and gearbox from an old council destructor) and everything else fro a now defunct coach building company - great camper car for trips to the lakes -happy days:)
