Just updated an old wolseley 6/90 which only had trafficators. I replaced the tiny single element tail lights with some double element lamp holders after drilling the backs bigger. Wired up the tail as usual then ran a pair of wires from the trafficators to each indicator element with a flasher unit on each. Being pre 71 it can have red indicators, and works very well. I may even add a relay to each side light circuit which cuts the power to that side light when the indicator power is on. Looks nice and original too.

I served my apprenticeship as a vehicle mechanic in a BMC dealer in the 60s so remember these cars well. Easy cars to steal as all you had to do to turn on the ignition was move one wire on the fuse box (only 2 fuses) and then press the solenoid to start the engine. No steering locks in those days. The dynamo was a constant cause of problems along with the regulator until alternators came along. Earlier MInors had a common rear light for both brake light and indicator functions. Hard to believe that some American cars still have this "feature" today. In those days Joe Lucas was responsible for about a third of all BMC cars failing to start on a foggy November morning!

We’ll have to politely agree to disagree on that one. Production line photos exist. And the famous BmcEcosse (Roy), who was a senior BMC engineer, has confirmed it. But you can put it on the other way up if you like.

I have a set of blue plastic tools for removal of the card liners and similar items , one of which has a 90° hook which can be used for removing hub caps without damaging the paintwork. I am very grateful moreover for the info of the spare wheel retaining piece which is new to me ( 'cos I do not have one and did not know they existed ) and will possibly prevent the spare moving around.

She was fully restored about 12 years ago with new wood, all rusted areas replaced, respray etc. That was just before I bought her. In my ownership she’s been fitted with a Marina 1275, stage 2 head, fast road cam, LCB, Toyota T50 5 speed box, van wheels, vertical shocks, ARB, full race half shafts, front discs, plus various electrical mods as per this channel. Thanks for your interest.

Best not to have other keys on the same ring as the ignition key anyway as the swinging weight of the other keys eventually wears out the ignition key or the barrel potentially causing the lock to fail to work which can render your car inoperative. My mechanic told me off for doing just that.

I used the 12V Buzzer which was placed in circuit with my Oil Pressure switch. When you turned -on the Ignition, it buzzed. As you started the engine, the Oil Pressure built-up, the buzzer ceased. I once lost all Oil Pressure, and didn't notice the small (tiny) Oil Pressure Light in bright daylight. This is an instant warning - that will always protect your engine in an oil-pressure loss situation. Well-explained video that covers all aspects of switching to LED Lighting for a classic car. Finally, I changed my High Beam warning to LED. It was barely visible when lit before this action. Greetings from Australia.

Hi, great video as always. You mention that you need a relay as your switch earths when reverse is selected. I have the Ford type gearbox with the simple switch, does that mean I don't need the relay? Just a case of picking up feed from the ignition on side of the fuse box? Thanks Ritch

It is always easy when you have the right tools to hand! I had to replace my steering rack for my traveller when converting to LHD. Unfortunately the new ones are made sealed and cannot be topped up! However, when I had to replace a gaitor I used red grease ( which was prevalent in the unit already) packed in as much as possible. Love your videos, already copied some on my car, even though it is clear you do not know what you are doing ( irony intended! )

Enjoy your videos, helpful for the diy'er , I worked on most 60s 70s bmc vehicles as an apprentice mechanic at Kennings, the gaiters will fit round rack if warmed and lubricated, twisting round a little at a time. If refitting old track rods ends, count the amount of turns it takes to remove, then count turns when refit. Your moggie looks very tidy, I particularly like your wiring and electrical videos, very neat work.

Great video, much better than the one I did which is in ESM link (by me!) The one on that car was my first prototype which I came up with one Sunday afternoon after banging my head and wondering why we had all put up with it for so long. I started making them myself but such was the demand I gave the drawings to ESM to make and sell. My little gift to the Morris Minor family.

That was certainly a comprehensive belt & braces approach! I had exactly the same problem in my Series 2 but it was literally just the fuel vapourising in the fuel line (badly routed right past the manifold imo). I just used the reflective wrap technique on that section of fuel line and never had the problem recur in the last couple of years since I did it.
