I'm newish to serious cycling and wanted to buy the more serious gear with good knowledge of the HOW/WHY for 2 reasons: 1st I'm on a budget and 2nd I value functionality over "Brand Marketing". Steve you ARE a TREASURE TROVE of KNOWLEDGE!!! Thank you for your free practical/insightful information~ You are easy to understand and a natural teacher. I will share my rides/build with you later this spring. (from N.Italy 🇮🇹) 🖖✌️😜

Thank for the video, I have been cycling for 7 years and this past summer started to have serious ankle pain. After watching this video, I realized I had my cleats setup wrong, even though I have changed them numerous times previously, my cleat was rotated inward to the crank and thus causing my arc to be out of whack.

Some people also recommend to do the same on the outer side of the shoes as well, then put the axle between the two markings in a way that the diagonal line between them runs through the middle of the cleat. Doing it this way will put the cleat a little further back than shown here.
@adamkubiak19334 жыл бұрын
Björn Holzapfel this is exactly why I disliked the video. Newest findings from the bike fitting community say, that the pedal axle should be behind the most protruding part of our toes. Good method of testing this is to climb a couple of stairs. We tend to put our foot way deeper than the line defined by the spindle.

You're applying WAY more N.M. than what you've got the torque wrench set at. A torque wrench is calibrated by using the proper handle area as the leverage point. Watch Park Tools video on the topic. Only telling you because this could cause somebody a major headache one day when they break an expensive carbon part because they are choked up on their torque wrench.

Hi, thanks for the great info. I hope you are doing well. Question, if I install the Look Keo Cleats (Grey, no rubber feet) to use with my Keo 2 Max Pedals, can I do so WITHOUT using the Memory Clip AND NOT using the rubber cover (the part that covers the memory clip)? I am looking to avoid any squeaks and not interested in the memory clip feature. If I can go without installing the memory clip and the rubber cover are there any downsides? Thanks again, John

Really great video, best for Look cleats that I found so far, thanks for being so detailed. 1 question, arent u putting too much torque on the wrench, since u r holding much closer than it was designed to? Or the torque needs to be much higher than 5.5? Please let us know
@stevenleffanue6 жыл бұрын
The torque is limited firstly by the nut insert in the sole of the shoe. With grease on the bolt thread usually you can get higher tensions. "Look" cleats often tend to slide so once you have the right position for your cleat, tighten it so it want move.

I am concerned with getting clipless pedals. How do you walk in your shoes without messing up your cleats? I am a tall bloke so shoes dont last me long. They wear out fairly quickly. Any advise?
@stevenleffanue6 жыл бұрын
Use mountain bike shoes with shimano cleats Charl. The shoes have a much chunkier sole to walk on and the cleat is recessed so it doesnt wear whilst walking.

@@stevenleffanue Have just fitted first set of cleats on my first set of shoes ahead of a first ride on a new (used) road bike, I didnt grease the bolts, why is that necessary and what grease would be used?
@stevenleffanue2 жыл бұрын
Moisture gets into the threads and corrosion ceases the threads making it sometimes impossible to unscrew the bolts. Any grease is good

Bollocks, the bone of the first metatarsal should be FRONT OF not dead center of the pedal! That is how the most FORCE can be exerted......the straight line in the middle nonsense as well, nobody walks in a line, we walk outwards because of the skeleton-muscular system, thus naturally the heels fall a little inward, so the line is not straight, but in an angle whilst riding a bike as well.....!

I use masking tape to mark around my old cleats .. easier to see, and leaves no marks (not that it matters .. just an OCD thing 🙄) I also use a little loctite blue on the bolts instead of grease so I’m 100% sure those bolts ain’t gonna loosen .. nothing worse than trying to unclip with loose cleat bolts 😳
@stevenleffanue2 жыл бұрын
No loctite on cleat screws otherwise when time to undo you may find the nut in the sole goes around too.

It went together easily in less than an hour. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

I never see anyone using the black memory tab on the cleats for replacements. So you dont have to readjust after putting new cleats on.

Sorry I'm trying to get my cleat on the right back to 166mm and left 167mm. I change shoes so I don't know how to put them to the measurements above.
@stevenleffanue7 жыл бұрын
+Irv4know 306 Ok.. you want to set cleat on new shoes the same position as on old ones? This often requires good guessing and multiple rides with new shoes at slightly different cleat positions. Once you get the cleat right,scribe around the outside of the cleat.This is why professional cyclists always take the same shoes to events.

can i set up midlle foot position with standard shimano road or mtb shoes ?
@stevenleffanue7 жыл бұрын
+baca zterchovej Best to buy shoes compatable with mid-foot positioning or shoes with relatively flat sole on the mid area so you can drill and insert your own cleats. Shimano do not support mid-foot ppsitioning.

Why?
@kriegner6 жыл бұрын
Please don't use this video as a demonstration of how to use a torque wrench...Must be held at the end of the handle to properly deliver set torque. That's the "meter" in Newton-meter...Gripping near the head of the wrench makes the setting on the wrench basically meaningless...
@SprayIgniteBoom5 жыл бұрын
kriegner...nice tip but your 'delivery' is harsh. "In the end it doesn't even matter~"-Linkin Park😜😱🖖
@mtscott4 жыл бұрын
Not correct...torque equals force times distance. Hold closer and you have to apply more force because distance reduced. The torque click is set by tension correlated to torque so it makes no difference where you hold the wrench.
