Thank you for your call earlier... with the help of this video, I am satisfied that I have been on the right track in approaching these reeds.

I just ordered a set of standard Ezee Drone Reeds and I also ordered an Inverted Bass. Looking forward to trying them out in my Naills.

I would like to see drone reeds have measuring marks on the body so you can see exactly how much you have moved a bridle instead of guess. This would assure consistency between tenors. Something to consider Pipe Dreams?

Every set of drones of different makes would have to have different markings, even the bridles were exactly the same position, as various things like the aging of the plastics and fibers used can make a difference. The fine setting of any drone reed requires practice to achieve. Therefore, it is a pointless task to have guidelines. Your ear is the best guide. Once you have your drones fine tuned, do not touch them unless you have a problem. Temperature can make a difference, especially very hot ambient. If your drones stop in that situation, play your pipes for 10 mins or more, until the drones come in again and only move a bridle if it doesn't.

Help.. I need bespoke or custom drone reeds for an antique set of Miniature Lawries . Although I am no expert I have had them at Jim Scott’s shop (piper’s choice) in London Ontario 🇨🇦 also had a pipe maker named Gord Tuck gave a look.. they are a fine looking Blackwood set but alas nothing has worked so far.. im not sure what combinations have been tried… I have seen similar Henderson Miniature pipes set up with Ulleann drone reeds and chanter in key of A but I’m not capable of figuring this out. Have you been posed by this predicament before? (I purchased them from Ron Bowen as sticks only)

I am working on setting up a 3/4 set of Hendersons and am also struggling with drone reed selection and settings.... but have not yet set up a proper chanter and sound to tune them to as yet. It has been a slow and frustrating process so far!!

if you blow in the drones and it makes no sound you need to buy new ones right

Just adjust the bridles, if the reeds won't make any sound they're closed to far, slide them back just a little, you don't have to move them but a hair at a time, adjust your bridles until all three drones stop sounding at the same time, also you want to adjust them so they're not taking to much air, the pipes should be comfortable to play, you shouldn't have to blow like crazy just to keep air in your bag. Hope this helps, I'm still learning myself. Of course your bridles may be open too far and are letting the air pass through without causing the reeds to vibrate, if that's the case, slide the bridle toward the tongue of the reed to close it a little.
