It's great to watch what can be a difficult job performed so easily and smoothly (and not even the slightest bit of damage anywhere). Great job, Brian. Thanks for sharing 😊👍

nice work Brian... i had to make up something to fit my needle and ball bearings.. and was a right pain.... like you said wouldnt fancy hammering them in... but i got there in the end

The outer shell of the needle bearings is very fragile and very easily distorted. If you use the "hammer in with a drift" method you dramatically raise the probability of damage during install. Making a bearing press such as I showed is pretty easy and you have MUCH more control to monitor the whole process when in operation.. A major bummer removing a damaged "brand new one" ....reordering and starting all over again if great care is not employed from the outset... I'd always rather spend the time to "do it once..,and do it right"... 👍

Great video, Brian. Just a musing, couldn't you have created a double sided pusher, with the narrow needle bearings on one side, and the ball bearing on the other, and save some aluminium bar?
@brianwells525811 ай бұрын
Not really practical to have done it that way since the narrow needle bearing has to go quite deep into a recess within the RHS of the pivot housing on the swing arm.. The ball bearing then goes into an additional (larger dia) stepped recess afterwards..so there would have need to be a longer than practical "link~transition" between both sides of the single adapter you suggested.. Also I really wouldn't have been saving anything since that adapter would have to have been machined entirely from the much larger dia aluminium bar... 20 second job to switch out the various adapters to suit each process and machining the two needle bearing adapters as "pair" was as easy as machining just one since "both" are machined from a single length section of aluminium bar as a pair.....,then "parted" into their two halves to complete. In addition the separate ball bearing adapter also Doubled up as a nice "press~drift" ideal for seating the RHS oil/dust seal too... Anyway thank you so much for your interest and kind comments. I really appreciate it.. 👍 God bless BG.

What model exactly is yours? My manual is showing the final top hat spacer as fitting on the driveside? There doesn't appear to be space for it though
