Fitzgerald Lake Conservation Area - Adventures of a Hungry Great Blue Heron (Aug 12 -- 16 2023)

A century ago, seeing a great blue heron in our region was a rarity. Today, the species is much more common, with nesting rookeries found in several towns in Massachusetts. Here in Northampton, great blue heron pairs have been observed nesting in local wetlands for at least 40 years, including in a few sites within the 900-acre Fitzgerald Lake Conservation Area (FLCA).
This camera is within the FLCA, and an earlier video this summer spotlighted a two week period when a great blue heron caught and ate a star-nosed mole and 10 Northern water snakes at this beaver pond. Now, six weeks later, here are more of its hunting adventures. 4 days in under 4 minutes--I'm sure you'll be able to come up with lots of potential captions at different points during this sequence.
