the title of this video reminded me of the first deck i had ever constructed myself back around lorwyn/shadowmoor. i called it 5c black because every coloured mana symbol in the deck was either black or a hybrid of black and something else. off the top of my head, red had kulrath knight, green had noxious hatchling, white had nip gwyllion, and blue had oonas gatewarden (which i believed to be absolutely busted at that time hahaha) excited to see what your version of 5c black ends up being :)

I think Tidehollow Sculler off 6 white sources is the bigger problem: That card gets a lot worse if you can't cast it on turn 2 reliably.

Love these drafts as always! I've watched every episode thus far. Some of these cube additions are very suspect though :D. Ruin grinder, spikefeeder combo, simian spirit guide, ulvenwald oddity, xenagos, scrapwork mutt, Etali, etc. The fact that orcish lumberjack, woe strider, & others are still kicking around is also odd. Does Gavin collaborate with anyone to curate the cube? Seems like some cards need voting out

Trying new stuff is fine, but some additions are just obviously going to get cut very soon. This content is GREAT though, love vintage cube!

I was very confused about this for a minute, too, but Palace Jailer exiles the creature until an opponent becomes the monarch, not until it leaves the battlefield like most similar cards.

What they play with is obviously up to them, but yes, Initiative melds together the worst aspects of the Monarch and Dungeon mechanics. I mean, Monarch itself was already a bad enough mechanic without the added complexity of the Dungeon mechanic.

It hurt watching the p2p3 Vampiric Tutor get passed. Not saying it was a bad decision in that particular spot (the fetchland was also very needed), but it does seem like, in general, LSV won't take Vamp/Mystical Tutor unless he already has the full combo he wants to assemble. It's Vintage Cube, you're almost certain to have a card or combo worth going down a card for by the time you've made all 45 picks. Small blind spot in his cube game imo.

I sort of thing initiative cards need to just go. They are beyond broken in this format. Weird to say in a format that contains black lotus and mox etc but it's the composite of the format that makes them so unbearable. It's like the monarchy but so much worse. Drawing a card every turn sure is nice but the undercity thing is just an absolute guaranteed win that's incredibly difficult to answer in a singleton limited format. It sort of skews the meta game to nothing but tempo based aggressive strategies

I keep coming back to these cube videos but never manage to finish even the first game. MTGO is such an eyesore to me as I've never used it and I'm used to Arena. Arena is just way more pleasant to follow. Maybe one day I get used to Online. Today is not it yet. Sucks because I'd love to watch these more. :(

I get that you can't win every match and you don't have infinite time to get draft footage, but just the fact that you upload 0-3's will make me less likely to click on future videos on the channel. Watching someone lose for an hour straight with very few good moments was genuinely depressing and I'd rather do almost anything else.

Cannot disagree more lol. I'd say half the reason I watch these is the drafting portion anyway (which I think this one was actually super interesting) and even when LSV loses its usually to pretty awesome combos and interesting card combinations because of how high level all of the players are.

While I don't agree with some of his picks and I am not a huge fan of the current cube I think this video is still super valuable. I think it has a lot to teach newer players and more experienced players. Plus more content for me to watch while at work lol.
