Hi Dez! I get it. We are our biggest critics, I know I am guilty too, but as someone who sees you in videos, I love your go-to style and always think you look fantastic! I’ve told you before that I am short waisted, long legs and a “Mom pooch” too and I struggle with pants as well. And I know you get tired of skinny jeans/pants styles,but Dez you rock that style! The “hot secretary” blouse and oversized blazer outfit looked so good on you! I personally don’t think that rocker look ever looks dated. I also have given up on sweater dresses. I just find the thickness of the fabric so unflattering on me. I say I’ve given up, but you know me next fall, I’ll be trying again I’m sure! lol! I also appreciate your honesty and openness it’s so refreshing. I love the winter white outfit on you. I think it would look great teamed with the right accessories and jacket - maybe even knee high boots. I like the knit dress and would wear it with the zip fully down and a T-shirt or roll neck underneath. I would also push the sleeves back to show a bit of the contrasting colour at the cuffs. You could play around with the colour of your tights and what trainers/shoes/boots work for you. I have also always loved Chrissie Hynde and have bought a satin blouse but it’s a v-neck and I’m going to wear it with the ties undone and jeans but my aesthetic is casual. I’m 74🙂

The Jersey trousers look really good on you. I’m short, ex hour glass (now with a podge) and found a great pair of boot cut pants in the Active Wear section of a local general clothing store. They’re two way stretch, hang beautifully, and surprisingly smart. Love the green silk shirt. I think it just needs contrast to give it a lift. Ellena Hue is a great channel to follow for colour inspiration. She’s way more adventurous than I am but has opened my eyes on how I might bring a boring look to life. I’m 71 and have a wardrobe full of black, white and loved but lonely impulse buys!

Your honesty is so refreshing Dez. I think none of us has an ‘ideal’ body shape and all struggle to find perfect fit. I am 5’6” and very slim but with very long legs and no bottom or thighs. There is always so much fabric around those areas and I am swamped 😂 I live in jeans from M and S ( Lily jeans) in all colours to cover all eventualities! A size 10 fits perfectly. Hope your hunt is rewarded 😊 Ought to add I will be 74 in June!

You're lucky to be a set size... I'm a 14/16...and buy 16 jeans and have the waist taken in, sometimes I can buy 14 and its nice fit, and sometimes it's just tight on the hips and a struggle to get them up and on!

You are a You Tube unicorn! You are not afraid to tell - and show - it like it is without filters and editing magic!! Thank you for presenting yourself as a real and beautiful woman with real and frustrating issues. Every point you made hit home with me. I just counted in my head and I have six pairs of black trousers in my wardrobe and none of them are “the one”. I too have very little torso; my waistline is just under (or behind, if I am braless) my bust, but that’s where we start to differ. I have a much smaller waist, but waaay larger hips and tush. My stomach fat - or apron, as I call it) is also much larger due to having three large children with the last being a C-section. Add two additional abdominal surgeries into the mix and nothing is going to change that fat except plastic surgery. As a plus-size woman, one of my largest issues when shopping for clothes is that 90% of the clothes are black. I like black just as much as the next gal, but I am neither Wednesday Addams nor a Goth so some brightness would be nice. I adore the colour winter whites but it does not love me back. In fact, it makes me look quite pallid and ill. I have been using it in accessories, though, and it is fine. I have a plaid scarf with some winter white as well as a gorgeous woven leather bracelet. Right now I am investing nothing in my wardrobe as I have been losing weight since last year. I had to purchase some things to get me through, but I just stuck with some fast fashion items and style them totally differently from day-to-day with different accessories. Once I am done dropping kilos, I will have to invest in a whole new wardrobe, so will be more mindful in what I am purchasing and why. For me, the why is a big deal as I can be an emotional shopper. While I laugh about needing some retail therapy, the reality is that I have finally learned the lesson that shopping will not make you feel better in the long run.

The sweater dress needs to be accessorised. Try a white long sleeve T-shirt with a scoop neck. Open the zip and pull up the sleeves to show the white. Add a long necklace or a fine scarf. Try kitten heels. The tailored trousers are difficult to find, I'm struggling to find any too. Try a boot cut in Ninepine instead. They come in many colours, wash beautifully and have different leg lengths. The green shirt should be undone on you. Tuck it in then pull it out at the front so it falls over the tum. Put your jacket on with the sleeves pulled up. A pair of boot cut jeans will make it modern. Your hair, makeup and accessories make a massive difference. A pair of long earrings some layered necklaces and a bracelet or two will make for a more modern look. You looked good in the winter white colour. Try a more fitted jacket to give you shape and avoid black. It's too harsh against your colouring.

Just love you, Dez. I sympathize with the challenge of finding the right wide-leg, pleated trousers. They look so elegant and flattering, in general. What about an in-between solution? Could you find a pair of straighter-leg trousers that still flow and drape a little, maybe without pleats, and then go to a tailor to have the waist fit? You'd still get the relaxed effect without the bulk.

Thanks for another terrific video! We are of a similar age, with the same body type, and very similar measurements, so it's incredibly helpful for me to see how things look on you. Also, we have a similar attitude towards age and style. Mostly I have what I believe to be true about how things look on me confirmed. Re tailored trousers: The best pair I ever had were mid-rise, or even slightly lower. I could even wear something tucked in, and a belt, so long as I wore a jacket that reached my hips. Where you and I differ is in terms of fashion. I no longer follow fashion at all because, knowing what looks best on my body, and having a limited budget, when things that don't flatter me come into fashion, I ignore them. The most flattering outfits on me are fit-and-flare a-line midi dresses -- if sleeveless then under blouses, cotton shirts, cardigans, jackets - because arms -- depending on the season. I often cinch my waist with a wide stretchy belt which I can cheat down. Mostly, of course, I wear jeans, or ankle pants which work on our long legs, but I never tuck anything in. Every once in a while a trend comes along that I have enjoyed in the past and know is flattering to me. Now it's barrel pants! I don't have a pair yet, because I want to get just the right ones, but I know that slightly cropped and pegged pants work on my body. So long as I don't tuck my top in, they redress the balance between torso and legs in the same way ankle pants do. Anyway, thanks for another most enjoyable video!

A pant that has a modern look without being extreme -- been there, done that -- with a tailored, well-cut shirt, shaping the torso, untucked. Can you see it? Love your channel 🥰 my suggestion is find a great tailor/ dressmaker and have a pair of black dress pants made specifically for you. You can then choose fabric and cut that is best for you rather than trying to fit into something made to fit most but not all of us. If you try this please let us know 😊

I'm 4'`10"" and an apple shape. My waist is wide and my hips are average. I haven't worn any top tucked in in decades. When tapered pants were in style, my goto was the Piazza Sempione Audrey, a crop pant that came to my ankles, no waistband and a side zipper. Very expensive, but I always bought them on sale. I had black wool gabardine, wool crepe, velvet and cotton. But the current look is not tapered. My suggestions are the US brands Vince and Eileen Fisher, both of which I've mentioned before.

Hi, Dez. My waist is nearly the same measure as my bust, so we share the problem of thick waists. I highly recommend L.L.Bean's Perfect Fit Pants. They're pull-on, stretch pants without waistbands, sold in a variety of leg styles (i like slim fit), lengths regular, petite, plus, medium tall, standard stretch jersey (the only fabric I've bought), denim, lined in fleece (the company flagship is in Freeport ME=frigid winters). I have bought some I’ll fitting clothes many times . Don’t despair. I can’t find any tailored trousers either. As for tops, if they are the wrong length, I shorten them. I have chopped up jumpers many times . Some marks and Spencer trousers fit ok but most don’t. Some jeans just slide down. Those boots definitely look better with your dress. Have you tried Hobbs for trousers? I did like the green blouse on you. White wide leg trousers would go beautifully but where the heck do you find ones which look good. Good luck Dez. Hi Dez. We have a very similar size and shape. The jersey trousers looked great. The green dress looks good with the black tights, you could wear black ballet flats or not-too-chunky loafers with it. The green silk shirt might work with everything if you hem it a few inches to land right in the middle of your tummy ~ it sounds counter-intuitive, but I've found tops that end there are very flattering and disguise the pooch. They do have to be loose fitting, though, a tight T-shirt won't work it will emphasize the tum. This was an excellent video as it lets us see what you are talking about and come up with solutions for our own problems!

Hi Dez. First of all, and most importantly, you look great! I know so many fashionable people say “no” to skinny jeans, but they really do suit you…..another style to consider is Theory brand flare full length pants. You could get one size larger than normal and have the waist taken in a bit for a more “flowy” fit but still suitable for your figure. The flat boots are fine with the silk dress but not for pants imo. The green is a beautiful color choice for you (both dress and blouse). The dress could be altered to a boxy sweater/jumper and the blouse with the oversized jacket would be great belted. But back to my first comment-you look great all the time! I enjoy all your videos

For work I always wear the M&S Woven Straight Leg trousers with Stretch, they seem to suit me and are comfortable and at £22.50 might be worth you trying!xx

Love these style of videos, make a change of the hauls when we see, of lots of clothing and they never say if it all works, I'm a little shorter than you 5ft2.5 and I struggle with wide leg jeans, it's the length really, love cropped on others but on me I can't get them to look right, I did buy the marks front pocket wide leg jeans in black which I love, and the slim bootcut in black and light denim, both full length, they are worth a try if you want jeans,

I hate every black pair of trousers I’ve ever tried on. Recently, I tried a pair by Quince. I’m just not sure 🤔 they’re for me with the stretch band in the back quite uncomfortable / itchy/ pinchy, I cannot find “the pair for me” either ..,which sounds ridiculous as as I’m an avg size 8 …. I have a pot belly which makes buying trousers/jeans very difficult; but I have found that HOBBS trousers really fit me. They are quite expensive but if you get something that fits its worth it. Also I don't like skinny or wide trousers I think they are very unflattering, so I only go for straight leg trousers. I think you might find tailored trousers in Hobbs. Good luck.

I am short also in the legs and most wide leg pants make me look dumpy. I would say if you would wear the 300 pound trouser and if you have many things to go with them, splurge as they should last years. You seem to do a great job with your body type. Just started watching your videos and I love your honesty here in southern Cali. Dont see a lot of what you bring to your channel. Keep up the good work as you a real.

Hi Dez, have you given any thought to a moderately low rise trouser? Maybe one that features the waist band hitting just a bit lower than your natural waist? My own delimna is opposite of yours! I'm 5'3" and slim, but my torso is longer than my legs. I disguise the problem with high waisted trousers, but whenever I try on a lower rise it makes my torso seem longer!

We share a very similar shape except I have no dip at the waist. If something fits me at the waist then the bottom and the legs are flapping huge. You’re blessed to have such a beautiful youthful shaped face. Mine is round which basically mimics my apple shape 😞. I’m on the hunt for a similar pant. Hi Dez. You have a similar figure to me though i am 5ft 7ins. I am 39-31-39 approx and tend to carry my weight on my tummy and just below, but yes still an hourglass and i have long legs and a short body. Trousers i would look at Next especially on line they have hundreds of different shapes and prices. In jeans i buy the slim/straight leg mid waist ones and find them them flattering. I am not normally good in skirts but recently bought a long wool pencil skirt from Cos in the sale and it has s side zip and more of an extended waistband. I fitted the size 12 easily and it is extremely flattering. I think the green Uniqlo dress looks good on you and that an the green blouse i would dress them with a gold tone chain belt worn not tight but enough to show your figure or a slim black belt with a pretty buckle. The boots i would just embrace that they look quirky maybe even go for a turn up jean or cropped trousers or culottes. Winter white- well its just not my thing - i am a muck magnet! X

I can relate to your search for tailored black trousers as I have been struggling to find a pair too. I tried the new softer/baggier look and it just doesn't suit me so I decided that dtyke is wearing what suits you and not what is fashionable so I am not interested in trying to find pants that are flowy. I think a lot of the people I see wearing them do not suit them. I loved the green dress..I hope Uniqlo have it here in Australia in winter (it's currently 38 degrees here) and I'll definitely be trying. It had a look of understated elegance on you.. it's very simplicity was what made it so attractive. Don't be tempted to wear a scarf.. forgive me for saying this but nothing says older matronly woman than draping scarves on a person. I also liked the way you styled the green shirt..the classic softness of the shirt against the tougher look of the rest of the outfit was a great juxtaposition

Go to a nice boutique or department store and get someone in the know to help you 😊 it’s the only thing I will ask for help with is my trousers . That’s how I found the pairs I have . I’m 5 years younger than you & I’m the same body shape & height & I have learned my “style” through trial & failure. I bought a pair of Ivanka Trump tailored trousers from a charity shop, they suit me so well & they go with everything. I’ve found that pants with an elastic waist never fit me well because I have a slightly sway back & elastic waisted pants don’t sit correctly on my waist.

Really love you Dez xx but you really see yourself very differently to the way I see you. I guess we all do though don’t we? I have a big lower tummy and I’m scared to tuck in. Recently lost 4 stone and am now my dream size 14 and I’m loving trying new styles on and get excited by fashion. I get a lot on Vinted to try styles out for not much money and if they don’t work on me resell them on. I love Vinted - my best finds have been on there! I even tucked in yesterday! And I confidently owned it. I think you do yourself an injustice because apart from the winter white uniclo trousers I thought you looked great in everything! The Olive dress looked great with the boots but I do feel if you’d have put a bit of make up on for the try on you would have seen the look pulled together. The boots look fab on you btw. Similarly when I go shopping it to try on clothes now I get dressed up, make up and jewellery on and see how it all will look in ‘real life’. The Chrissy Hynd look looked edgy and superb! Hi Dez trousers can be a nightmare I was told trousers are the most returned item.I am sorry the wide trousers that are in fashion make most people under 5ft5 look blockey.I am a sort of Apple flat bottom slim legs carry weight on tum. I think in the end its not about fashion its what you feel comfortable and flattering in. I now buy a beautiful slim leg smart trouser from Sahara this year they added a moss green and chocolate brown to the range.I have in black and navy they are made from an Italian ponti fabric they wash beautifully. They cost about 119.00 pounds.My oldest pair is 3 yrs old and still look new. I have tried the barrel legs from them but not for me. People always ask where I bought them.

Have you considered a pinafore dress? They skim over the tummy area and would give you a different look. Would get round the skirt issue. Seems a shame not to show your legs when they are so slender and elegant.

Sorry Dez I wasn’t keen on these boots when you first showed them. They tend to make feet bigger and hard to style with items when we are over 45. I do save expensive clothes and pack away that suited me and they usually come back into fashion. I think the blouse would suit you In a lighter colour. I'm not sure if you've ever tried anything from the Talbots line in the US (mostly "mumsy" in my opinion) but the tailored Hampshire ankle pants fit my body shape well. I'm the same shape as you, high waist, long legs, not much waist definition, small hips, although a size to two larger than you! The 12P in these pants is perfect for me, so you might want to try the 8P or 10P - the fabric is like a lightweight wool. The green sweater dress is really nice - but agree it needs high boots. The black boots (and I apologize in advance) look like part of a children's Halloween costume - almost plastic! Can't think of a single way these will look good - sorry! I love the color of the silk blouse, but..... it's a style that was around in the 70's/80's, and while it can look very modern on a teen, I'm sorry to say that the old adage of "if you wore it the first time around, you shouldn't wear it the second!!" applies here. Winter white - love it - but hate the way my legs look in any white trouser, so stick to jumpers or jackets.

Some ideas for you: 1. Check out Halara for wide leg pants that have the elastic top designed correctly for your waist plus they are affordable; they have skirts too. 2. Silk dress: I think you might be a petite apple so a skinny belt (yes, under the boobs) makes you look less lost in the dress, gives you some waist definition so you do look not as wide in it. But it does not emphasize 'the ladies' because the dress elongates - I've shown this by dressing several friends this way. 3. The boots are tricky because the are so flat so will be noticeable unless under a long dress/skirt/pants as you know. They are essentially a 'statement piece' so will be noticed no matter what else you wear so go the opposite way and highlight them by wearing long, bunched up, colourful socks over your slimmer pants or wear those socks between cropped/shorter pants. 4. Your cream top, white pants, and boots look lovely together but need a creamy or white third layer to pull it together and you're all set. Or, a longish scarf (momochromatic) would do the same thing. 5. The green silk blouse is olive so would go better with an olive blazer or military cropped or long jacket than black. Or brighten it up with a cream version of the same. Maybe a woolen vest, length to either just the hip or mid thigh - same for jacket lengths. Hope this is helpful!

Hi dear you can wear those black square toe boots, I wouldn’t be caught dead in them. I’m 68, you wear what ever you feel good in, I’m Going to Walmart food shopping now in my jeans and a sweater with flats, Walmart doesn’t have a fashion runway just a site for sore eyes if you’re looking lol. Im 5’4 125lbs and tall women can wear burlap bag and still look good, not me! And wrinkles, that’s another brick in the road. Getting old sucks, just wait till you have to wear pads all over again, leaks from coughing, sneezing etc. I hope it gets better…..lol

Comfort is great, but if it doesn’t look good on you( like the sweater dress) then walk away from it. It’s a frumpy dress to begin with, nothing stylish about it. You should try a dress that is gather at the waist on one side. It doesn’t have to be tight. I bought on at Loft and it’s very flattering. I think you should try pants in petite sizes. Chico’s women’s clothing in the states has wonderful pants for women over fifty. I don’t know if they ship overseas but it’s worth looking into. They have fabulous sales and wonderful materials they use. I have several black dressy pants and casual pants from them. I’ve had them for years and they never seem to go out of style. As far as the boots, I don’t want to be harsh in my critique, but you should sell them. At our age we should be looking for more sophisticated, classic styles on our footwear. I think one of the problems is you really don’t know what your style is. Every piece you showed was miss matched with what you styled it with. Have you consulted with a stylist? Perhaps you should start there. Have them work with pieces you have and can’t give up. Slowly building your functional wardrobe according to your lifestyle. Please don’t take any of this critique personally. It’s just my opinion. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look pulled together but you do have to figure out what your style is. I am 66 and my body frame is very similar to yours. I have to be honest I don’t like you in black and any outfit you wear doesn’t do anything for you. Black makes anybody look older. Black creates too much contrast and appear harsh, further emphasizing facial features associated with aging. I stay away from dark colored clothing. I wear white, beige, oatmeal, champagne, very light grey and sky blue. I don’t have anything dark color. My shoes my coats my purses even my flip-flops. Not to mention everything in my house including furniture is white or off white nothing dark. Light colors are very relaxing and clean looking. I use to wear a lot of black almost everything but when I turned 55 I changed everything. That was a 360 degrees turnaround. It was scary and costly. Now I am happy I did it and I love it. If you want good tailored quality trousers try Maxmara brand. Very classy and well made just fits perfectly with sophistication and style. They are expensive but beats the price of 10 other pairs we buy and don’t have the look we want. I have mine for 5 years and they still look like new. If I can make a suggestion for older lady’s like me is to stay away from black and dark colors.

Hello, Dez . . . I really like your videos - just so you know. You have a gentle, sweet, refined way about yourself that I appreciate. --- That said, and this is JMHO, the boots are awful - just dreadful. I'm talking about the flat, black leather boots with which you've had a bit of trouble finding something to wear. The problem is not clothing to go with the boots . . . . but, IMO, the boots are hideous - they look like space boots - something from a Star Trek film, etc. They are just NOT flattering. Also, the flat soles just cannot be good for the feet - especially more mature feet. --- As to the green, bow-tie blouse at the end of the video, I think it's lovely, and the color is nice on you . . . but because it has a "shirt tail" bottom, it really needs to be tucked inside your britches - or, belted at the waist, if you don't feel comfortable tucking it in. If you belt it on the outside, though, the shirt might appear a bit busy. Further, because you are not a tall woman, the bow could look a bit fussy, if the shirt is not styled the right way with your clothing. I actually think the blouse looks passable with the black jacket and skinny black britches, although the jacket appears too large on you from the back view. I think you really need to tuck in the blouse . . but if that's not a feasible option, I think you might consider getting rid of the blouse. --- As to finding black britches, my suggestion is that you have a tailor custom make a pair or two for you. This might be a pricier option - but clothing is expensive nowadays, anyhow . . . and at least if you have the britches made for you, you will have the fit and cut that you desire.
