I am the wife of a disabled vet. My husband has PTSD, a brain injury, panic attacks and suffers from chronic (24/7 for 7 yrs straight) headaches. I have had to fight the military, Social Security, doctors and the VA to get him the benefits he earned. I am lucky, because when my husband realized what was going on with him, he started to research it. He's worked hard to stay away from drugs/alcohol, and to try and keep communication with me open. Sadly, that is not the case for every vet. Many are unable to speak about it, and far to many family members are not willing to accept what is happening. Many families actually make it worse for the vet. It's NOT an easy life, and it's NOT easy, to deal with all the struggles, but it is so worth it. As of right now, my husband has only left our house 6 times, in 8 months. We've been dealing with it for 9 yrs now, and thankfully our kids have adapted too it. Vets and their families deserve all the help, and support we can give them. Even if you don't fully understand what is going on, just try to be there, and listen. They've earned at least that much.

I'm a Desert Storm vet, my wife has stood by me for 30 years now, I have PTSD, sever depression, sheep dog syndrome and battle mind trama all untreated, that's just my mental problems, my physical disabilities have left me 100 percent disabled and yet I've been denied benefits 3 times by the VA. If not for my wife I'd be dead many times over, several of those times by my own hand. Each day is a struggle

None of us expect civilians to fully understand, or to really do anything. We just ask that you try to be kind, and understanding. Don't shun us, or look at us as some kind of problem. Our lives are different, and often difficult, but we don't want everyone having pity us on us. We just don't want to be judged all the time.
@hisbean6 жыл бұрын
I am so very, very sorry to hear that. It breaks my heart to hear so many stories of vets who are struggling, and the VA is doing nothing for them. I realize not everyone is able to do it, but the one thing that has greatly helped us, is going to civilian doctors. We have found that being diagnosed by an outside doctor, makes it much more difficult for the VA to deny it. We had to do that with my husbands brain injury. It should NEVER be that difficult though. All my love and prayers for you and your family. I wish there was some way I could help. Sadly yours is a scenario I have heard of far to many times.

This video always chokes me up and I could tell it hit you pretty hard. So thank you again. What ive always loved about vets and being a vet, a brother is a brother no matter what, skin color, background, religion, creed etc...none of that shit matters to a soldier. If you would die for me, then I'll die for you. To most vets it wasnt about what we were defending, but it was only about the guy to our left, and to our right. Brothers forever.

Something that I would like to add to this, that in the past four years, the unfortunate statistic of a Veteran taking their own life by their own hand has grown. By statistics alone, 22 Veterans a day take their own life, one every 65 minutes.. Get involved. Virtually everyone knows a Vet. Reach out to them, remind them that they are not alone. We, as a country and those they VOLUNTEERED to serve, are failing them. Let's stop failing those that served us and let us start to serve them. 22 a day, every 65minutes...#BuddyCheck (edited to reflect actual statistics Thank you Melissa Miller)

This song affects me more than any other. This country is so messed up! I remember when my 18 yr old uncle was drafted during the Vietnam War, just a kid forced into fighting. Those soldiers were treated like trash IF they got to return home. I lost a cousin in Vietnam. Most of my family are Veterans and the fact that so many are treated with no regard for their sacrifice is outrageous! It takes so little to show a veteran appreciation. Thank them for their service. If you see one on the street, buy them a burger. Just talk to them. Most just want a little appreciation. My husband is a veteran of Desert Storm and he never passes up a chance to thank a veteran because he knows the sacrifice. I thank a veteran because I appreciate the sacrifice.

I am not black, I am native american, and a Veteran. I am fully aware of the injustice that plagues the black community and I am fully ready to go to war beside them if that time comes. However I will not kneel during the National Anthem for the same reason I would not try to draw attention from any black live matters protest or rally to seek attention for Veterans. It is my believe that we should stand strong and proud for our brothers of all skin colors that have given their lives so we can even have a discussion about social injustice. At first I was bitter with those who saw otherwise, but this song brings me back to our core values and reminds me that even tho there are those who do not agree with what we do, we keep fighting for them just the same. So no longer am I bitter with those that choose to kneel, as just I have lost brothers on the battlefield so have they lost brothers in our very streets. Whether you choose to stand or kneel, in the end is should not matter as we all are striving for peace.

I've never served in the military, but I come from a long line of military men. My father, his 3 brothers, 4 cousins and 2 uncles. I will tell you this...I have ZERO tolerance for people who disrespect our military. These men and women endure so much, but they understand that someone has to do this for our country. We aren't free because no one has challenged us. We're free because people paid the ultimate price when those challenges arose. If you don't have money to give, I understand. But you could give your time to them. Walk up to them on the street and say hello...acknowledge them. Ask them if they're a veteran, and if so, tell them thank you. If it's cold outside, pass out a few blankets or give them a sandwich. It could only take 5 minutes of your time to save a vet from suicide. None of us are completely helpless. Don't just say you have sympathy for them. What about empathy? Put yourselves in their shoes. They are one of us and no one deserves to be discarded or forgotten....no one!

A few ideas to help... turn up the tv or radio. It can help block out the loud banging outside and unexpected blasting noises. Hearing protection... like the ear muffs they use at race tracks or firearm ranges. It’ll help deaden the sound. Plan a trip overnight with your friend away from their house somewhere quiet. Make a tradition of it.

JB...not sure I understood your comment at the beginning when you said if you are going to be mad about something, be mad about the treatment of veterans...not those who kneel during the national anthem. Just a little perspective here...those who serve, serve Country and our Freedoms. That flag represents those things. As military members, we are taught from day one to NEVER disrespect the flag or things that represent our county. We pledge to die for those colors and our country. I fully respect the right to protest; however, I will never agree with anyone who disrespects the country I live in and fought for...ever. As you can tell by this video, we are all brothers...no matter how the rest of the world (or NFL for that matter) feels about it. JB...you are lethal...and I am a loyal subscriber. And yes...help the veterans...there are just some things that are bigger than all of us put together. Thanks for the review...

Five finger death punch is one of my favorite bands and they have great hearts they support the military, let 1 fan backstage who been paralyzed for free, and got a fan who been diagnosed with leukemia who passed away a couple of years ago on stage with em and Ivan moody gave tribute to that girl with an acoustic version of their song remember everything they should’ve let her sing cause Ivan moody had sang the whole thing i bet the girl would’ve had a great voice to be honest I don’t understand why 5fdp gets so much criticism I mean yeah Ivan moody could be a bit of an ass sometimes but he never means to be one he’s the type of a guy who’ll kick a person starting a donnybrook in his show cause he doesn’t have time to fuck with people who are racist, cussing each other out for different opinions, fighting he’ll kick you out for that shit you do it’s like sit back relax enjoy the show anyways I just subscribed to your channel since you seem like a really great person and I think you should react to more five finger death punch here some kickass song suggestions if your wanting to check out more 5fdp: Jekyll & Hyde, Bad Company, Sham Pain, The Bleeding, Wash It All Away, Lift Me Up, Gone Away (offspring cover), White Knuckles, Blue On Black, When The Seasons Change etc I’m not saying you need to choose every one of em by the way I’m giving you the idea of what songs are the most best to check out by 5fdp just so you know :)

Respect our troops, give them this time. That is something we can do outside of the governments control. I know there are things that people want heard, but doing that when it's time to respect the people who gave you there ability to be on that field, in the stadium, wrong.

I'm sorry JB, but this is a reaction I can not watch. I don't watch images of war. I only need to close my eyes. For those who TRULY believe that Veterans deserve better...... DO SOMETHING! Your bumper stickers and yellow ribbons are a joke. They do NOTHING to really help. My brothers and sisters in arms are DYING here in the states! DYING while WAITING for treatment from the VA. I have been blessed by God with a wonderful woman who takes care of me. But there are SO MANY others who don't have that. Even though I too have served, I thank every Veteran I see for their service. They are always surprised that I served too. Often, they tell me that I am the first person in a long time to even acknowledge them. Unacceptable! For those Veterans reading this... stay strong and hang in there. I know it's hard, believe me. If God can send me an angel of mercy, He can do so for you. Civilians.... be a friend to a Veteran, sometimes that in of itself could save their life.

I too have been blessed with an angel, my wife and I have been together for for 30 years now I would be dead now many times over if not for her. Sometimes I think she needs to be treated for PTSD just from having to deal with me, I've been referred to as a hero, but I'm no hero, my wife is my hero, I only did what I was trained to do but was never trained to deal with the guilt or the deal sadness not to mention my physical disabilities. I have an honorable discharge but been denied benefits 3 times from the VA.

What a blessing. Our wives are our very life blood. About the VA, I also fought those SOBs for benefits. I tried for 10 years to work through my disabilities. Did well enough to earn a living. But like everybody else, I got older. My body just doesn't work like it used to. Anyway, I'd gone as far as I could go on my own. Had to get medical help from VA. They fought me on my medical claims. Finally after they could no longer deny the doctors diagnosis , both VA and outside private doctors, I applied for disability benefits. They fought me some more. I had to get a lawyer involved. I finally won 10 months after I got an attorney. Lawyer took 20% of the back pay, but I was getting nowhere by myself. I know it's BS, but keep after them, MAKE them hear you. I will pray for you and your family, God Bless.

I try to do all I can but it is difficult on Disability. We pay Sports Stars Millions to catch a Ball, we Cheat our Vet's through our Politicians. We need to send a Message to them this ain't gonna Fly. Buy a Meal for a Service Member past or Present when ever we can, it will let them know we appreciate they're Sacrifice. I have done it in Fast Food Joints, Lenny's, anywhere you see a Uniform. It will do wonders for their Hearts and yours. God Bless our Service and God Bless you JB

Its awesome they have all those organizations but it's disgusting that there's a need for that many. They should not be suffering

As powerful as this video is we have a government so focused on illegals than taking care of our own. These mean and women sacrificed so much for us. The lost of limbs, PTSD and being away from your loved ones or death in service should mean more to Maericans than a illegal being taken care of. I thank a Vet wearing his WW2 hat ,or vietnam hat or see a military person in uniform every time I see one. I dont care if Im at work or just out. I will make it a point to go out of my way to say thank you. It means the world to them for a citizen to say that. I dont owe a illegal anything but I owe everything to our Service men and women. Without them we are speaking German, Russian or Chinese right now. Stay strong for our service men and women. Say thank you and see them light up.
