You forgot about the guy in 2007 who chose box #4 even before the game started. Bob would go on and state that this was another historic moment on fhe show. I'm pretty sure its still on KZbin someplace.

I'm not familiar with that guy, but I'll be sure to look him up.

i think he had a 1/8 chance, which was still hard.

Another 1/2 Off fun fact: It was originally going to be played for a car, but they decided a box full of cash looked better than a set of keys.

1/2 Off is always reminded of the game show treasure hunt.😀👍

A contestant pick a box before the game started. As he play perfectly the box that he picked was still available to choose. The box came to the contestant and won the game. This is drawing the Bob Barker error?

Bonus fact: you can win more than $10,000. Shortly into its run, they gave away $500 for each correct guess, meaning a possible $11,500 win. When Drew took over, it became $1,000 for a complete sweep, meaning a possible $11,000 win.

I recall the young man who invented this game (a fellow game-show trader) while he was early in his career. He started with the idea that everyone likes getting 1/2 off the price of an item & built it from there.

My favorite 1/2 off win was in April 2007 when the winning contestant picked the correct box before the game started. Plus, before that, he bid $1000 in the first one bid and the winning contestant wins with $999!

Honorable Mention: During the Million Dollar Spectaculars, whenever 1/2 Off was the Million Dollar Game, a contestant after winning $25,000 had to decide whether to take the money and leave or risk it on a Million Dollar Check in which the contestant had a 1 in 16 chance of winning $1,000,000. While the contestant had the to make the choice the doors were closed and the check was put into one of the boxes.

About that #1 fun fact? I actually saw the 2010 instance of a contestant getting all of the items wrong and still winning the money in the studio; it happened during a taping for that years ACM Awards special. That was a lot of fun to watch in-person, not just from the prism of a TV set. lol

Only 4 games left in the Bob Barker era: Pocket Change, Balance Game 2006, Stack The Deck & More Or Less. It will go to The Drew Carey era in 3 weeks.

0:31 One of the boxes will have $10,000 in it regardless of whether you are lucky or not. Luck determines whether you choose the box that has that $10,000.

I played 1/2 off on my computer one time (I have the Price is Right 2010 game) and I am positive that 13 was one of the boxes the money was in. I don't like the fact that 13 is considered an unlucky number.

I don't see how 2:36 is possible when Pay the Rent, Grand Game, Time is Money, Shower Game, & Hot Seat exist. 🤔🤔🤔

Fun Fact! I am the proud owner of the original #10 box, acquired before they updated the boxes. A pal of mine was a carpenter at TVC for three decades and literally rescued a handful of 1/2 Off boxes from the loading dock dumpster when they repainted the color scheme. He was gracious to give myself and my game show super-nerd pals first dibs and thus we have 6 of those boxes among us. The #10 box is sitting about 20 feet from me and as another Fun Fact, I am the only person that can literally poop into it if I were so inclined. 🙃

1/2 Off is like (The New) Treasure Hunt not only with a reduction of the # of boxes and odds of winning, but without the luxury prizes, Let's Make A Deal cash offers, fairy tale like skits played after the box was revealed and the check for $25,000!!!! inside one of the boxes replaced with exact change in dollars (and on one occasion during an April Fool's Day episode, in pennies.).

I was NOT happy when Rich Fields was fired from TPIR. He was a great announcer, respected Barker & Carey and loved the old school announcers, especially Johnny Olsen. I had heard he was fired due to the executive producer wanting more of a comic to play off Drew Carey and that is why George Gray was chosen. I had also heard that Drew was angry when Fields was fired and he was not advised of it. He had hired him for his Drew Carey improv show on GSN, but it did not last.

George Gray is too ridiculous of an announcer than Rich Fields was. They should have kept Fields instead of replacing him without someone that's dorkier.
@tnate600421 күн бұрын
I feel especially bad for Rich because it was his dream job. He's got some videos on YT with stories about his audition, his time with the shows and some of his keepsakes (including a swatch of the old, gold CBS logo curtains from Studio 33).

Mark I think I can back you up in some capacity because I don’t necessarily believe that how far‘s city is the most expensive set just because in 2010 when the price is right introduced pay the rent Drew actually said on air that he thought that was the most expensive set they ever built for a game

Enjoying the series. IIRC, the game’s inventor, Mandel Ilagan, originally planned for 1/2 Off to be a car game.

If that's the most expensive game made, it must be made out of gold leaf under the paint. That's can't be true.
