This reminds me of what Blade Runner wanted to discuss. Due to the pollution, animal life mostly died. When it came to food, you’ll notice Harrison is typically eating fish or noodles. The reason, synthetic fish would’ve been the cheapest meal in this world. The filmmakers theorized If you could create synthetic robot humans, animals would’ve been attempted first. Fish would’ve been easiest to create.

And in Blade Runner 2049 Dave Bautista's character who is a Replicant escapes and becomes a farmer. His farm is just a bunch of greenhouses full of crap to collect bugs. So any "burgers" or shit like that that Kay would eat are just bugs. Blade Runner: "All the aminals died cause of pollution." Cyberpunk: "FUCK THEM DOGS AND CATS THEY DIRTY AS HELL GET EM OUT!"

One of the real lore reasons that most animals, especially livestock and especially in Night City, are effectively extinct was because after the 4th Corporate War the Corporations saw people rebuilding and growing their own food and raising their own animals in the city for the first time in generations, and they wanted to retake full control of the food supply and city; They used the existence of nomads and raiders and street gangs fighting stealing and fighting gang wars over animal theft alongside animal based diseases to introduce the culls and harsh laws against pets to get rid of independent communities.

Politically Night City is EXTREMELY overpopulated. Any kind of disease will instantly spread throughout the entire city like Covid. Which is what made it easier for the politicians to pass these laws (after corpo pressure, of course).

I think its best to keep the development of synthetic foods as a viable source of nutrition for space explorers and for developing countries without any land for grazing. cattle should remain and be treated humanely, they still offer us jobs, rugs, meat, dairy and most times are just cute.

One of the missed opportunities with this game is that there is no survival mode to give a reason for players to eat all the food in this game. If your stamina dropped to zero when you don’t eat, then it would give a reason to eat at the restaurants. You could have had V, when hungry, say things like, I could do with a pizza. And if you ate the food he craved, you’d get bonus stamina. Same thing for sleeping and showering, and give players a reason to rent a hotel room, or sleep in their apartment.

honestly, i imagine that the synth food isn't *that* bad. humans are incredibly resourceful and we can make great food out of almost anything - look how many foods that used to be for the lower class are considered delicacies now. the real tragedy isn't that we can't get real meat - it's that so many animals went extinct

There was a push around the 45's by BioTechnica and many of the other firms to reintroduce extinct species and introduce new strains, but things didn't seem profitable enough I think. Probably because they messed some of it up (I expect there will be bio hazard based adventure hooks and Pre made missions for the new roleplaying game where things from earlier went pear shaped {tho they probably should have been fox shaped lmao} that a few good edgerunners can get paid for their trouble in cleaning up)

I don't know much about the Cyberpunk Series but I believe one of the major foods of their franchise was various types of Kibble/Chows. Funny enough manufactured by Ralston-Purnia, the same people who make Purina Dog and Cat Chows. So think Bachelor Chow from Futurama.

If you look into the kinda stuff Ralston-Purnia got into at into at one point before they went under and sold they sold off most of their business off though; Either to General Mills if you're talking cereal or Nestle id you're talking pet food. It's kinda Cyberpunk inspired within itself. Like no joke they dipped their toes into: Frozen Pizzas/Delivery Pizza Chains, they owned Jack In The Box at one point, they manufactured breakfast cereals, they made every conceivable type of pet food, and if I'm not mistaken they once owned Eveready Batteries too.

Pizza is so badly treated in Cyberpunk 2077 that it even has its own laws and litigations, namely through the Pizza Desecration Act, which will actually get you a tag in the wanted list if you scan certain folks or gangsters in town. This makes putting things like pineapple on your pizza illegal. And if you've seen how the cops act with even the slightest crime, that's... not a fun time. Depending on who you are, that can be either a blessing from an ever cynical god or damnation to the deepest bowels of flavor hell.

I feel like synthetic meat is approaching like we do have soy based and a lot of things are plant based as meat substitutes, could be approaching synthetic by having protein and take shape. It's interesting to think on it, and how the culinary world would change, I mean again we are seeing it with impossible meats and that's been really interesting to cook and try. Also bugs as a snack is very real thing, and pretty popular with cultures, I'm sure in time it would be involved in more markets, like I would try scorpion or ants cooked right.

I will say I prefer the concept of lab grown meat over the vegetable faux meats; Impossible and Beyond products play havoc on my stomach and the taste is just too funky to me. Love vegetables, love meat, love them together, but do not like vegetables made to seem like meat; it misses the positive marks on both ends. Looking forward to lab grown options

I think in the future, grim as it sounds, or maybe less grim, but lab and synthetic produced items will be a whole thing, and while natural won't be gone, it will be limited and a higher price point. I think of those "Grass fed" will in time become "Natural".

Its lab grow meat really, its still real meat from a particular animal, its just not been roaming a field for its life, it was a part of an animal (the bits we eat) grown in a tub lol. Although thats real life, the cyberpunk version might actually seem to be something else possibly.

Wait, 'Leeloo jellybeans'!? Do you need a multi pass to buy em? (Looks like a new Easter egg I haven't seen yet lol) I'm gona have to hunt those down and try some. They haven't done badly in game tbh. (And I would have said to try the pirogue down by the docks, but I have *no* idea which parts of the docks Panam means yet....if I find a stall, I'll tell ya, maybe it's in a dlc?) The only thing I haven't seen much of is 'kibble n bits' and 'pre-pack' Kibble is talked about a lot in the game (at least, from what I've seen) canned, dry ect. But I haven't seen much of it about. Its pretty much 'bachelor chow' in the dry form, probably a lot like saitan (that washed wheat gluten stuff) in cans and preformed stuff. Cyberpunk's version of combat ration's (and I bet good old starfleet K-Rations are better too lmao) Prepack is kind of like a MRE. Different brands, differing quality but its what you would grab a couple of packs of and shove it in your backpack on the way out the door on a gig. If you got caught by the corpo's and had to hunker down in some abandoned building, or (if you were a lucky choom) spend a couple days/weeks hidin out in a safehouse, you can bet you need a couple of boxes of prepack to help you get by (along with shower-ina-can and your fave stack of entertainment chips lol) For a while, the rooftops of the city were green with guerilla gardeners (that was during The Red, after 2023) but some time after the 45's things got worse. Probably the aircars and dirigibles making it unsafe (and possibly raiding folks rooftop gardens, since rich folks can always ask their Fixer to pay some Solo or Merc to ah....appropriate them some fresh munchies....like damn raiders in Fallout, why spend all that effort growin the stuff yourself, when you can just *take it* from the gonks that did?)
