You should do a list of 100% game experiences that were ruined by one annoying achievement. I’ve had several games, even those that are some of my favorite, that had one tedious or painful achievement that made an otherwise enjoyable completion run, an absolute slog.

This kind of situation is what made me give up on 100%ing most games. I was doing just cause 3 and playing through the challenges. It made me so insanely frustrated that I said fuck it, stopped the game, later traded it in at gamestop, and decided I didn’t care anymore about 100%ing. Now I only 100% games that completely captivate me and continue to captivate me throughout the 100% process. I mainly just 100% fromsoftware games and a few other random games here and there (like half life 2).

Even "The Lost" was nasty and that was well before the final DLC (I think 2 before final?) I can only imagine that "The Lost" is really the worst character in that game. But sure additional characters and content makes it even more tedious and difficult to 100% regardless of the fact that each individual char might be a bit easier than The Lost.

As someone with all marks on the lost, I'll say he's one of the best "bad" characters. He just needs you to know enemy patterns and dodge while taking advantage of the fact he has holy mantle, flight and spectral tears as a starter. I do agree that doing major bosses like Delirium can be tedious, but you need to create your own chances. Find an algiz rune, get tarot cloth and chariot, get gnawed leaf and an orbital, get the stopwatch to make things easier and then have a good build... I've yet to play Repentance, but so far I've already platinumed all DLCs up until AB+

I think games that have good 100% achievements are something that into the end gets challenging achievements, not ones that you have to grind just the sake of grinding or replay the same content million times. For example many RPG games might be like these "Play through the campaign with X class" -> You then have to replay the same fucking campaign with every class. Wow, much fun! Doesn't really provide any new content.

To get the proper understanding of how Andromeda bombed so much, requires playing the version 1.0 that dropped to us on release day, as opposed to the now patched version. I foolishly pre-ordered thinking Bioware would have learned after the trilogy's ending, but the day 1 technical issues along with an average story and mostly boring characters, left a feeling of being massively burnt. Never pre-ordered a game since then, and have felt all the better for it, given subsequent dumpster fire technical releases of many major titles.

I have a bit of an addiction to 100%-ing every single game I play, even if that process doesn't end up being enjoyable and/or worth the effort (which does explain why I'm so slow in going through my ever growing backlog), but I just can't help myself. It's quite rare for a game to make me not wanna pursue this, and it's usually multiplayer ones that do this. Still, I found it quite funny to see 2 games that I 100%-ed on this list specifically, made me question myself a little 😅 Great vid good sir, keep them coming!

Wow! Rare to see anyone saying good stuff about Thief 4! I like the design of Garrett, but honestly, what really kills my enjoyment of that game is the level design which doesn't allow for much creativity and the audio design, which is terrible. I liked the little touches, like the fact that you have a body. Most ppl hated that, because it slowed the game a bit, but I thought it really cool. Another thing that bother me is that the "Master Thief" spends 90% of the game stealing pens and stuff that are worth almost nothing lol. The cool stuff are all collectibles, then when you play with the "expensive resources" on, you spend 175 (or whatever it was) to buy a rope arrow to reach a place that has a pen and a brochure (worth like, 30 or something hahaha). I really wish that game had modding tools and whatnot, I think ppl could do some really cool stuff with that foundation.

I do like trying to 100% games, but not 100% achievements. Just seeing and doing all the content available, preferably in a single playthrough. Not playing at certain settings or doing some weird specific things that are often unintuitive, unfun or tedious.

@@MortismalGaming Yeah, great level. If not for The Cradle in the third game, the asylum would probably have been considered a series highlight even by the ultra fans. It's got some genuinely great atmosphere. But its, well, a very similar concept, except The Cradle is usually on Best Level Of All Time lists. Poor Thief 4 just cannot catch a break that way. It's just... impossible not to compare it to the rest of the series, and the giant cannot escape the shadows of three entire Titans.

Even for games I like a lot, I usually move on before I 100% them. But God of War 2018 played like a game that doesn't want to be 100%'ed. I mean, I liked that game. The combat just doesn't hold up to the higher difficulty modes (and, honestly, probably not the late game side bosses either). As I recall, the dodge was a weird double input, the dodge vs counter decisions aren't really communicated well and enemies have a small number of attacks. None of that really holds back the main story content, but I probably wouldn't like the game if I tried to get all the achievements.

Funnily enough Thief 2014 is the game I'm playing right now. Bought it for the PS4 when it first released and thought it was decent enough but, being an early "cross-gen" release, it didn't floor me with anything very "next-gen." Some other game must have lured me away, because I left it about 60% done and never came back - until earlier this month. Started again from the beginning rather than try to pick up where I left off, and I've gotta say, 9 years down the line, I've been thoroughly enjoying it. It's just a solid, immersive single-player game - nice graphics, good voice acting, interesting story, great atmosphere - and it's got none of the nonsense that has infested gaming in those 9 years. The only DLC worth having (meaning it feels like something cut from the game that ought to be there) is The Bank Heist, but I already owned that because it was originally a freebie pre-order incentive. And that's it; no online integration "social" nonsense, no season passes, no DLC stuff that's forever unavailable because you missed it in 2014. It's just a complete game for your money. It's not a perfect game, of course - it could really use some "fast travel" locations in the city, because traversing the same sections of the city over and over, with the same guard placements, and some needlessly convoluted paths just to get from A and B, does get to be a chore after a while. And there are a few of those "cinematic sequences" that were all the rage in 2014, where you're rushed along a path and have to choose the right direction (or press the right button) quickly or die, and must keep repeating the on-rails sequence until you get it right. Not a massive fan of that "QTE" type stuff, but at least the game only does it about 3 times total in a decently lengthy run-time. So that's a weird experience: enjoying a 9-year-old game more in 2023 than I did in 2014. It's a bit like the way some films from the 80s-00s that I thought were just "OK" on first release now seem like gold, because the general quality bar has dipped so much lower since then. Anyway, back to it. I'm in the end-game now and the game's made it clear that it's "finish up your business in the city" time because there'll be no going back if I start the next chapter. Yes, there's a lot of optional side-quest and Trophy-hunter stuff that I _could_ get bogged-down in, but as you say some of it's anti-fun and strictly only for completion obsessives. It's a shame that they didn't move some of the more insane Trophies (like that "all secret areas" one) out of the main list and into a separate "Master Thief Challenges" list, so normal humans with actual lives could Plat the game without being forced to do the frankly unreasonable stuff, but it is what it is. I'm just going to do the bits that seem fun and interesting and then move on, with no regrets. That seems the best approach. There's no point forcing yourself to do side-stuff when you'd rather just be getting on with the story and seeing how it ends.

But achievments? Nah, those are useless time sinks. Some of them require way too much effort and time to get a useless trophy. But i do admire Morts dedication in doing them, for a reviewer it's like a seal of quality, meaning he spent ungodly amount of time in it.

While Andromeda is a tedious game to 100% due to it's open world and glitches, I almost always try to complete as many quests as I can in the game. Mostly for the EXP in order to make the final boss fights easier, and also because I do enjoy Andromeda. Sure it's got its issues, but it also has good parts about it. It's a gem that's rough around the edges, but an interesting game with some decent ideas that I wish I could have seen play out. That being said, if I were to choose a single-player game I've found to be tedious to get 100%, I'd probably have to say all of the Jak and Daxter series after the first game. They aren't the most difficult games in the world compared to a lot of the games I play now days, but there are a lot of collectables, minor quests or mini-games or racing segments you have to complete in order to 100%. And while the mini-games and quests aren't the most difficult, racing is one of my least favorite things to do in video games.

I grabbed Andromeda for $10. The main story is somewhere between 25-30 hours, with a TON of side content. And the side stuff is subpar. It's a prime example of another 'check the boxes' kind of content. The main missions are fun, and the gameplay is good. The main patch Bioware released did help with a lot of the bugs - I think if it had released in that state AND not been part of the ME IP, it would've been considered a decent game.

You are a great game reviewer. I’m sure it is largely a matter of taste, and a MATCHING of tastes, but you may be my favorite one. It is true that it makes you unique, but in what fevered, masochistic dream did you come up with the %100 review format. “This is a good job, so how about I make it and order of magnitude or two harder on myself”. It seems like love could turn to hate in some fraction of games if you HAD to do this! It would have been so much simpler if you dressed in a bunny suit or something in the videos. 😂

I think there were some early 2010s games that ran in the multiplayer trap. I think it was MK X that had some ridiculous hour/match requirements. There's also the famous "Frozen Synapse" achievement chaser. Onward to 300k. All glory to the algorithm.

I would say the most recent one would be Final Fantasy 16. I loved the Gameplay, the story, the characters but for the Platinum Trophy you had to play the game a second time. It's not difficult, you can rush through it and skip all the cutscenes as well, you are OP when you've maxed mpst stuff out in your first run, but it's that second playthrough that made me like the game less. Epic fights turned into sponge battles, without the cut scenesythe game is fairly short and monotonous... so it's definitely worth playing once, but the second time didn't feel that good.

Any monster hunter game. They are a blast to play, and I wish there was a less RNG grindheavy way to 100% them. No game is 500-700 hours good. I don't want to be on my deathbed doing the mental math of how much of my life was spent getting all large crowns for monster hunter world or rise. Also, personally, I refuse to get 100% in any Rockstar game. They are so bad at making fun achievements to get. You are collecting 100s of things, there's dumb RNG grinds, you are doing so much repetition and to cap it all off there's no good way to fast travel. So if you're sick of playing this game after 90 hours you still need to like say get far enough away from a city to build a camp just to go to where you want on the map. Also they offer bo challenge at all, just a long laundry list of chores to do.

Back in 2014 I enjoyed Bound by Flame a lot, but couldn't tackle the final fight. I remember playing through it the first time and finding it a massive slog, and while I did beat it I didn't feel like doing any extra playthroughs. Years later I came back to it and decided to go for the platinum, and while the game is significantly more fun if you play any class other than the warrior I still didn't platinum it because I missed a romance and wasn't going to do another playthrough just for that. It felt a lot like a significantly worse Dragon Age Origins. Not that it was bad mind you, but Origins is my favorite RPG of all time and Bound by Flame was just ok.

Dying Light 2 is definitely a game I wouldn't recommend 100%. The fact they have an achievement that asks you to travel for 960 km is nuts. I have 250 hours on the game and I'm only halfway there, and it also doesn't count any means of travel that is not walking/running, so the fact they introduced the paraglider mechanics to travel fast from building to building, makes it actually working against you if you want to get the 100%. Other than that I'd never recommend anyome to even try and get the 100% in multiplayer games, given that everyone has to sweat in every kind of multiplayer game already, it's really not worth the extra annoyance.

@@cozminr performance is the only valid and universal criticism. Story depends on taste, and many gamers play games for reasons other than story and many games with no story at all are very popular. It's like people watch shitty B horror movies, the story isn't the point and it's possible to enjoy things that even have bad stories. @@albertzinger7132 I just grinded the same spot in like NG+2 or 3 for… well, too long. Sekiro is a great game but imo compared to any other Fromsoft game the replay value is basically nonexistent* and that’s what made getting the platinums for all the other FS games fun to me. Maybe playing to NG+6 or whatever actually would still have been a less tedious way of getting that trophy for me lol *Tbf the total lack of variety in weapons/builds was a huge part of what made it great since all the combat only needed to be balanced around one weapon but didn’t incentivize me as far as wanting to replay it for anything but the different endings

I tried getting every achievement in Dragon Age Origins + all the DLCs. I do not recommend anyone does that unless you are prepared to play 10+ playthroughs at least. Thankfully, many of them can be cheesed with respec tomes once you reach the warden's keep in awakening, because you get an achievement for being fully specced into a role and there are several of these, so for these you only need 3 playthroughs, one for each base class. the 100% (read: 96%) exploration one is super annoying because you don't actually 100% this, I think it's 96% because the other 4% are the other 5 origins you didn't select, so you can't 100% it. it took me a while, but I got every achievement in the game, I was quite proud of myself, but I'm never doing it again

Honestly I really enjoyed the Thief game, but I also haven't played any other Thief games before, so I have no comparison. The only thing that REALLY got on my nerves was the dumb map and the long load times. I've gotten 100% on Steam and the platinum on PS4, but getting around the city was always annoying. Edit: Oh and also the fact that you can't finish the later stages 100% stealthily or at least not if you want to get all the loot, because you have to distract some guards and once you disturb them it counts as opportunist.

Playing Andromeda, I could tell they actually took the work put into a proper sequel, and then went weird with it. Like it was said, the combat is superb. There's a constant feeling that this could be ME4 and an amazing game, but that's just another nice thing we aren't allowed to have. The plot and characters are abysmal, I never even bothered to play the story half way. The wave mode was actually more fun, although that has the problem of running out of content real fast.

To be fair, I won't be 100%ing WotR because I refuse to be mean to people, or make Nenio, Seelah, Arue or Sosiel mad at me, since they are people that deserve happy endings. I suppose Lann, Ember, and Woljif too...but mostly Nenio. So no evil paths for me, though I've done all the others now...Azata is best story, Trickster is best fun. I also already 100%ed Andromeda, because...well because I WANTED to like it, it has such a good premise, such a good setup, and as mentioned, the gameplay is unique, with the world design being able to actually make you take advantage of ALL your tools. But that story and those characters? Not just in comparison, but just in general, are bad. Like, AWFUL bad. And finally, Thief...I couldn't actually play it. I havent done 100% on Witcher 2, but i played it on the hardest difficulty & did the W2 Superboss (the Operator down in Loc Muinne Catacombs). I remember roll spamming a lot throught the game & beating the Operator was only possible on multiple times. Somehow he lagged/got stuck for a bit and i was able to heal & finish 1 of the gargoyles. Now about PoF:WotR i do want to play a Lich playthrough because i saw it has unique party members, but i also want to check the official party members' unique sidequests. Its a conundrum that i'll have to solve, because i dont want to do multiple playthroughs.

if i may, lich is incredible for the angle of RP as a undead master, the main story is pretty neat, and it is one of the most powerful mythic paths mechanically...side content however takes a hit, you lose several companions and some side quests, and the new companions are rather bad storywise(can be strong tho, kestoglyr especially), but i felt rather unsatisfied with a lot of side content, as opposed to aeon or angel for example(there are definitelly worse paths, GD comes to mind) but i just wanted to warn you, if your main focus are new companions, outside of their recruitment, they have very few dialogs and no story
@ZeroRed78
@ZeroRed78 Жыл бұрын
I'm afraid for WOTR that that's an unsolvable conundrum. Two playthroughs are required to play through the game seeing every companions side quests to the end including the Lich ones. I'd suggest just picking whatever mythic path really appeals to you rather than picking one because it gets a few more companions.
@GeoGyf
@GeoGyf Жыл бұрын
@@ZeroRed78 Well the most interesting is the Worm that Walks because very few times in games you can really play an epic level monster. However it also seems monotonous/boring. The Lich path at least offers multiple companions that get replaced by other companions (team building, therefore it gets interesting). Also the lich companions do have a story relevance too, even if they arent too fleshed out (i guess equivalent to BG1). I guess my question is: are the official companions interesting enough (especially their sidequests) to warrant a playthrough?

If you played Andromeda significantly after release, which it sounds like you did, you probably played a pretty okay game. I found it for like $8 a year or two later, and while it’s easily the worst of the series (possible exception for there may be some rose colored glasses at play for the first one), but I certainly got my $8 worth and then some. To add to your list, any of the more recent Assassin’s Creed games (Origins, Odyssey, or Valhalla). It’s impressive they’ve made a game that long, where the gameplay loop lasts a long as it does before getting old (at least for me), but it managed to overstay its welcome when I was trying to 100% it. I had an embarrassing amount of hours in it and probably had 20-30 hours that felt like a chore before I gave up on that aspiration (b/c why would I keep sinking time and effort into chores that don’t help the household?) In the end, I limped across the finish line on that game and went a year before I was willing to even think about another AC title. I put just a little more than the base story into Origins and enjoyed it. I’m currently nearing the end of Odyssey and doing more than I did with Origins but not even trying to 100% it, just finishing up the side stories I’m invested in before shutting things down b/c the gameplay is starting to wear a bit thin, so I know it’s going to fall apart fast when I run out of stories I care about.

For me this'd be a long ass list, though also short as heck. Basically, I pretty much 100% 0% of my games. I'm somewhat of a completionist in my playthrough in terms of trying to get 'as much' out of it as I can. So it's not uncommon that I spend 100+ hours (e.g. months) on a single game, doing as much of the main and side content I can do. If there's any post-game dungeons or something I'll generally do them and for say JRPG's I'll generally go for the ultimate equipment etc. I don't however want to even begin to bother with those specific achievements that force me to play any game many (or even simply multiple) times. Especially long ass RPG's. Or even those hidden type of things that you pretty much have to do a specific thing, at a specific time, which you'd only know via fore-knowledge or a guide. Once missed, it'll generally force you to replay the game. Multiplayer achievements are another thing like that. I haven't played MP in, god knows how many years. So any and all MP achievements will never even be attempted. As such, I've got hardly any platinum trophies in my PS account. And I'm fine with that. Grinding out a specific game, redoing stuff I've already done lord knows how many times, just ain't what I'm looking for in my gaming time. As far as the time I've got goes, I'd rather spend it moving on to another game after 'mostly completing' the last game, thus getting another fresh experience.
