Never imagined Neville Brand in such a role, but he does a good job. He was one of the best Bad Guy actors.

By the way: If you like this movie as much as I did, I recommend three other excellent ensemble-cast movies involving Vietnam in the 1950s: "China Gate" (1957), also made by 20th Century-Fox, written and directed by Samuel Fuller, with Gene Barry, Angie Dickinson, Nat "King" Cole (in a straight dramatic part), Paul Dubov, Lee Van Cleef, George Givot, Gerald Milton, Neyle Morrow, Marcel Dalio, Maurice Marsac, and Warren Hsieh; "The Quiet American" (1958), made by United Artists, co-written by Graham Greene and Joseph L. Mankiewicz, directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, with Audie Murphy, Michael Redgrave, Claude Dauphin, Giorgia Moll, Bruce Cabot, Fred Sadoff, Kerima, and Richard Loo; "The Quiet American" (2002), made by Miramax, co-written by Christopher Hampton and Robert Schenkkan, directed by Philip Noyce, with Michael Caine, Brendan Fraser, Thi Hai Yen Do, Rade Serbedzija, Tzi Ma, Robert Stanton, Holmes Osborne, Quang Hai, Ferdinand Hoang, and Pham Thi Mai Hoa.

HOW WONDERFUL A MOVIE, about women fighting back and even killing men! I loved the women and their plight , and their CAREERS and their thoughts about just being a woman and getting married, and having children from a WARLORD! N BRAND was superb in this role as a WARLORD SAVAGE THAT takes whatever he wants in his little KINGDOM! The movie really shows how quickly ones life can change and not necessarily for the GOOD, even if you’re A SAINT!

A VERY WORTHY MOVIE FOR ITS TIME. VERY WATCHABLE WITH A STRONG CAST. NEVILLE BRAND UNUSUALLY CAST AS A VIETNAMESE WARLORD CARRIED IT OFF VERY WELL. ALL IN ALL A VERY GOOD FILM FOR ITS TIME. WATCH IT.

James Clavel had also scripted "The Fly" which also included Patricia Owens in its cast. Maybe Owens was being groomed as leading lady material by 20th Century Fox.
@jmccracken1963 Жыл бұрын
Indeed, it seems that way. Patricia Owens came to 20th Century-Fox from England (where she had appeared in movies (mostly) and TV (a couple of episodes) from 1943 through early 1957) in 1956 (age 31). In 1957, she played substantial parts in "Island in the Sun," "No Down Payment," and "Sayonara" at 20th Century-Fox. In 1958, she played substantial parts in "The Law and Jake Wade" (at MGM) and "The Fly" (at 20th Century-Fox). In 1959, in addition to "Five Gates to Hell," she played a substantial role in "These Thousand Hills" at 20th Century-Fox (excellent movie, by the way; well worth the time spent watching!). In 1960, she played Sheila Lincoln in "Hell to Eternity" (Allied Artists). And in 1961, she played Grace Ingram in "7 Women from Hell" at 20th Century-Fox (a World War II women's prison camp atrocity film; by the way, the other 6 women "from Hell" were played by Denise Darcel, Margia Dean, Yvonne Craig, Pilar Seurat, Sylvia Daneel, and Evadne Baker; John Kerr, Cesar Romero, Richard Loo, and Yuki Shimoda played prominent parts, and Robert D. Webb directed; excellent film, well worth the watch, by the way!) and Margaret Brandon in "X-15" at United Artists. She made three more movies: "Walk a Tightrope" in England in 1963, "Black Spurs" (yet another excellent ensemble-cast Western - and also Linda Darnell's last movie role before her tragic death in a house fire in Glenview, IL, age 41) at Paramount in 1965, and the awful, awful film "The Destructors" (made in 1966, but not released until 1968). After appearing in one more TV episode (one of the hour-long episodes of "Lassie," in 1968), she retired from screen acting (at the age of 43). Patricia Owens was thrice married and thrice divorced: to producer Sy Bartlett (1956-1958), to Jerome Nathanson (July 1960 to May 1961), and to John Austin (1969-1975). She died of cancer on 31 August 2000 in Lancaster, California, at the age of 75. She was survived by one son, Adam Nathanson. (By the way: Patricia Owens' father, Arthur Owens, was a double-agent spying passing secrets along to the Nazi Abwehr and to British MI5 before and during the Second World War. His code name was "Agent Snow.")

Reality. I’ve always thought that the Japanese have always taken the greatest pleasure in giving the greatest of cruelty and pain. Especially to those who are innocent or too weak to fight back. They were cowards and bullies. Hmmm, cows 🐄 and bulls or rams 🐏.

Who knew an American was a leader in The Vietnam Liberation Army ???!!!!???? Ridiculous role, ridiculous acting. Ruin movie. Movie no good.

Interesting how 2 humans can see the same movie so differently. I found the acting solid all the way through with a realistic script and inconspicuous sound track. A rare gem. You, on the other hand thought it was no good. To each his own. 🙏
