This is a blast from the past. My aunt and uncle and cousins live just down the street and we would pass it every time we went to visit in the 80s and it was always such a curiosity for me.

I grew up on Oakleigh Road. When we were kids, we would go to the Pet Cemetery and walk through feeling sorry for the pets that had no flowers on the graves. We would pick up the stray plastic flowers and place them on the graves of the pets who didn't have flowers. Good memory.

Lorraine Park in Woodlawn has a small section for the burial of pets. It also has a grave dating back to 1881

We didn't know that! Thanks for sharing.

One of our directors is big into caring for this graveyard. Coalition to Protect MD Burial sites. She lives near there and has been working on it for years.

Maybe you could have her take a look at the intersection of Northern Parkway and hilltop Avenue just a few miles away. There is a family burial ground there that was accidentally changed from a burial ground to standard property in the 90s and it started to accrue taxes. It’s changed several hands since. there’s more information about it if you go to the intersection Google maps and follow the link. It’s the German family burial ground.

Johns, I used to own a house down the street from the pet cemetery, closer to Taylor Ave. The 8000 hundred block.

There's a "No Trespassing" at the entrance. Is it not open to the public? There's no fences or anything stopping you from going on to the grounds, so IDK. I still visited the cemetery today.

It's a shame the cemetery isn't cared for anymore.
