The CRF300 Rally is a very versatile light weight adventure motorcycle at a modest price point. To take full advantage of it's potential, you will need to do a number of upgrades and mods. I have segmented a couple dozen 300 rally mods across a few different videos. This is the second in the series. The specific order that you do your 300 rally mods is not critical and will depend on your type of riding, and what changes matter most to you.
This video will round out the first 10 mods and upgrades for your CRF300l or 300L Rally without spending big bucks on the upgrades. At the end of this video I will walk you through one of the five mods in detail so check that out before your go.

... Just got a 2021 Rally on 5/31/23. Of course I am watching every CRF 300 video available. It already has a lot of upgrades. The back rack is the same as yours. Subscribed w/a bell. Looking forward to more videos. Thank you for taking the time to post them. . Jeff .

So, I can't say for sure what brand those were, but if you are looking for similar 30mm risers that fit the stock bars, I have used these Kemimoto risers before amzn.to/3unqjII ...hope that helps! and thanks for the props!

Nice video. Could you please give a piece of advice on Crash bars as well? Which crash bar do you recommend?

I’m running outback motortek crash bars on this 300Rally. I have run them on a number of bikes, always great quality. There are other options out there but I can’t say what the fit and finish is like. Hope that helps.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the upload. Question. The stock bars have drilled holes for the controls, the controls have a tab inside the line up with the holes, to help line up the controls, also keeps the controls from ever moving. When you replaced the bars did you do anything about the tabs on the controls? I’ve read some remove the tab, (sand it down) and add a bit of tape to the bar to help keep the controls from ever moving. I’m curious what you did. I’m planning on adding new bars and hand guards to my rally very soon. Cheers!

Great question, I should have mentioned that. I put Gorilla duct tape 1.5 wraps around the bar…double under the tab, if that makes sense. It still moves a little but I prefer things move not break when I drop the bike. Also it can’t move much because the throttle cable housing is rigid and will run into the hand guards. Hope that helps!

@@dualsportgarage Thank you for the reply. Another question. I noticed you had hand guards on the stock bars, as well. The stock bars have weights in them, I’m wondering did you have to remove them, or modify the bars to install the hand guards?
@dualsportgarage
@dualsportgarage Жыл бұрын
the bike had the hand guards on at the dealer, so I can’t say for sure what the bar weights are like stock. I couldn’t get them to budge during the bar upgrade, so I think the weights are actually threaded inserts. But I’m guessing you will soon know for sure.

What upper crash bars are you using? I have SRC skid plate and lower crash bars, and looking to add uppers. Thanks!

These are Ouback Motortek crash bars. Although I haven't tried other brands on the 300 Rally, these seem durable and fit well. Chris.

Did your stock bar have a 1/2 or 1" rise adapter?. I'm thinking off adding a 1" to my stock rally bars, I feel myself reaching a bit more than I want while standing, thinking the 1" risers by Zeta will be a good choice.

I had a one inch spacer under the stock bars. Although I can’t say for sure what brand they were.

Why not install grips without glue but with a liquid as a lubricant that'll totally dissipate and leave the dry rubber on the steel so it won't slip? That's how I installed my last grips so it's easier to change in the future. I don't think they really need to be glued usually if they can be fitted on and dry but they can't be slipped on without something to lubricate. I guess they were tougher to get on still but is there some downside to doing it this way? A lot of grips seem to wear really fast which I don't like
@dualsportgarage
@dualsportgarage 6 ай бұрын
My reason is to ensure the grips don't spin. Less likely on a road bike but if you spend time off-road and things get wet and/or muddy and you're working hard not to drop the bike in a technical section...you'll be glad you did. Also, standard grip glue is not bad. Typically just a quick slice down the middle of the grip and peel it off. On my race bikes, I glue them and safety wire them, just to be sure.

I also chose not to try to add saddlebags because when I had them on my KLR 650 they seem like a big wind drag and made the bike feel weird off-road and was always trying to get caught on stuff. This bike is far better off-road so I'm definitely not going to ever put side bags.
@dualsportgarage
@dualsportgarage 6 ай бұрын
Makes sense. I take the bags off when I do tight trails. But on an adventure trip, the tusk pilot bags I've been testing can be squeezed almost flat once I get to my campsite. Which works out well when we decide to go for a quick off-road loop then swing back to camp.
@jackle842000
@jackle842000 6 ай бұрын
@@dualsportgarage the klr I had before had big ammo can boxes. Held a ton but the bike felt totally different without them. Those tusk not drag too much wind for the 300 on the highway when they're full?

Here is a link to a ProTaper fitment chart tuckerpowersports.com/pages/protaper-handlebar-fitment-charts By this chart the Contour Pastrana FMX bar is among the tallest bars. 26mm taller than the CR High bend I installed, with 5mm less sweep which should open up the ergonomics a bit also. Hope that help!
