AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on KZbin are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!

Yellowstone, a great place!! I'm a painter and the landscape there has endless opportunities for painting!! My days there are spend as follows: get up at 5 am & head out to paint.. Return to camp & eat.. Go see the park looking for my next painting.. About 3 pm, go out and paint! Head back to camp for happy hour and a bite to eat!! Then do it all over again!!!

Ah; Old Faithful, affectionately known to those of us who grew up nearby as 'Old Filthy'. It's a must-see because it's probably the most reliable to schedule geyser in the park, but my personal favorite is an off-the-beaten path small geyser in one of the lesser-visited geyser basins called the Whirligig. I had an advantage a lot of people didn't; my father (who was 50 when I was born), was a carpenter, and had worked building walks, fences, etc, in the Park during the WPA era, so because of the spot he had worked, he knew about features to visit that were and are off the beaten path. And he was our guide and teacher. Other areas I like: Tower falls (which you mentioned), fountain flats (a dirt road loop around the lower geyser basin where we always went when we were looking for bison), Firehole falls on the Firehole river, the various gem-named pools (Sapphire, Emerald, Beryl). During the winter, we often went up the West Gallatin to the headwaters of that river and the Duck Creek area, which was just inside the park boundary. Saw a lot of elk there, and moose, and, one winter a large wolf who was following the elk herds. The list is too long to go on. We spent a lot of summer Sundays there when I was a kid. That happens when you're local.

I worked in Yellowstone three summers. 1985 in Mammoth, 1991 at the Old Faithful Lodge, and in 1995 at Grant Village. When tourists would ask me how many days they should spend in the park, I would always tell them about 5 to see all the basic stuff. And if I had to pick five 1. the whole Old Faithful area, including the lodge. 2 Norris Geyser Basin, it is the hottest water temperature in the park. 3 Mammoth Hot springs, there is a new terrace building, on the west side of the road as you are coming into Mammoth from the south. 4 Would have to be Canyon, and 5 I always liked going to Lake, it has a really nice lodge/hotel, and a great view of the lake. Now if you have time to go on day hikes, that is a another story in itself.

This brings back memories. I loved the time we were there in 1975! It was the year I got my first drivers license and helped Dad pull our camper trailer from Minnesota. I remember those walkways and the odd smells of the hot springs. We didn’t see any bison until on the freeway leaving the park. Nice to see more animals now. We are going to head that way one day soon. I loved the upper and lower falls. The hike there was fun too.

We spent a month there a couple of years ago and got to all on your list and hiked many great trails including Mt. Washburn. We had our campsites (we moved around) reserved many months in advance. We saw several people get turned away at campground entrances--once an entire busload, so planning ahead is good. We also spent a night in one of the original rooms at the Old Faithful Inn with a window from which we could watch the geyser erupt and heard it several times during the night. What a treat! Lamar Valley and Boiling River are great and, if you get a chance, try one of the in-park tours. We enjoyed the Evening on the Firehole and started our stay with Yellowstone in a Day--a great orientation.

We worked in Canyon last summer. I think you did a good job with this. One comment I would add is that visitors stop and tour the Park Visitors Centers in the various areas such as Canyon, Old Faithful, Grant and Mammoth. Part of the mission of the Park is to educate its visitors and so there is a ton of information to learn at each one - each one is unique so you will not be seeing the same information every place you stop.

How do I get a reservation for Yellowstone campgrounds for my RV I have tried making calls and they are still closed for the season
@Craig122455
@Craig122455 5 жыл бұрын
@@barbaranichols9059 I believe you can contact Xantera which runs the hotels there. There are 5 campgrounds for which you can make reservations, and I believe Xantera is responsible for them. There are other campgrounds as well, but they are first come, first serve. Last year the Park opened about April 15th. You may have to wait until the first of April to make reservations, but I would check back with them off and on. I just put in a Google Search for RV reservations in Yellowstone National Park. You might try that as well. Don't get discouraged, you will not be disappointed in the park. One hint, don't think you can do the park in just a couple days. Plan for a week there if possible, to get a good taste of what the park has to offer. If you are a backwoods hiker there are over 900 miles of trails. And one last hint: Keep your eyes open for any listings of Ranger led talks and hikes. They are great for learning more and appreciating more of what there is to see. I grew up in northern Wyoming, and love to tell people, "Yellowstone is my favorite, magical, mystical place in the world."

@@feyandd If you stay at West Yellowstone for the entire time (and many people do) just know that you will spend a lot of time driving back and forth from West Yellowstone into and around the park. I think if you wanted to stay in just one place I would see about staying in one of the lodges or cabins at Canyon Village. It is more centrally located for seeing the entire park. If you look at a map of the park, you will see the main highways are basically configured as two loops (sort of a figure 8) and Canyon Village is located on the eastern side of where the two loops come together.

We visited Yellowstone a couple of years ago. We stayed in the RV park in the park. It was a great home base. We would head out early to beat the crowds. During the busy time of day we'd stop at the smaller less popular locations. After supper we'd go back out and the crowds had diminished. We went to West Thumb after supper in late July and there were very few people there. There were however many elk. We only saw a few single male bision the 4 days we were there. We were told the herds were in the higher elevation because of the July heat. Next time we'd like to go visit in September.

Back in 1992 I had the wonderful opportunity to work at Canyon Village for about 5 months. Loved Yellowstone. As far as Lake goes.. Yes its a lake.. looks better early morning with fog and someone playing the bagpipes .. that was my 1st experience and visit to lake lodge and the lake,

Your 5 were spot on! :-) Jeff and I (this is Heather) LOVE Yellowstone! If I had to choose 5, they would be Old Faithful, Norris geyser basin, canyon, the lake area and geysers, and I'd have to agree on the drive you mentioned ... Love the videos! Loloho! :-)

The oldest hotel in Yellowstone is Lake Hotel on the huge beautiful lake. It has a formal dining room with the best food in the Park. I worked as a waitress there in the summer of 1964 and I believe it is worth the trip.

We live in Salt Lake and visit Yellowstone multiple times every year. Haven't missed the park in over 20 years. So many terrific sights, hikes and drives, I thought your top five was solid for those with limited time. Your vlogs are always interesting, enjoyable and educational. Maybe we'll bump into you folks sometime in Yellowstone or Teton are. Keep those vlogs coming.

Super stoked to be visiting this park for my very 1st time this coming Sept 24th through 29th. For the 1st half we are staying just a little north west of Gardiner in a cabin we found on Airbnb so I def liked hearing your number 1 on this list.

Missed seeing Kristy...hope she gets better soon. I think your top five locations are spot on. One of my favorite places in Yellowstone is the Roosevelt area which would be part of your number one location. Great tips on some of the best places to visit in the park. 😀

I can’t remember if I have been six or maybe more times in my life (starting at about ten years old). I live in Wyoming now (to be closer to wilderness and farther from cities) and have been 4 times since moving here (it is still close to six hours away...seven when towing the trailer). I still feel I am not done. I have been to all five places mentioned in this top 5, plus have stayed at Lake Hotel, which is gorgeous, plus Mammoth, Lamar Valley. I haven’t hiked Mt. Washburn yet. It is on the to do list. Now that we have the RV trailer, we plan to make it an annual trip as well. We have Tetons/Yellowstone both booked (well not Teton until the 26th) this summer! I would add the village of Mammoth itself. I love the little town! I agree with others about Lamar Valley. I would like to camp in one of the campgrounds there. They are first come first serve so I have been chicken to try. Also, while not nearly as spectacular a building as Old Faithful Inn, Lake Hotel is also beautiful! The huge sunroom overlooking the lake with overstuffed chairs and the huge windows make it a great spot to read, sip some coffee, enjoy conversation. There is also good bear siting spots between Lake Yellowstone and Sylvan Pass. The canyon between East Entrance and Sylvan Pass headed west is pretty spectacular. Any of the valleys with a winding river is pretty spectacular in the gloaming. (Madison, Lamar, Hayden, Gardiner) The bridge over the Gardiner River adjacent to Mammoth. Grand Geyser is totally worth it! You may have to wait two hours since the predicted window is much wider than Old Faithful. The crowd that actually will wait is smaller. Bring a book or a deck of cards. Talk to the others waiting with you pass the time. When Grand Geyser finally erupts, it’s pretty grand. 😀. None of these suggestions surpasses the top five here, except maybe Lamar Valley or Grand Geyser. I would never skip any of the five listed though.
