I think what makes nightmare so eerie is his that he throws us off of what we’re used to. The games were usually animatronics suddenly screaming in your face, and they were colorful. Nightmare just stares at you. Like he’s observing you. His red eyes stand out from the dark coloration of his body, so they (or his teeth) are the first thing you notice. Red is dangerous. Black is death. Nightmare is a threat

I know it’s controversial, but I actually think the jumpscare works best this way. Yes it may be more ‘scary’ as an animated jumpscare, but I think that would take away from the truly sinister and unknown nature of this creation. Also, whilst it doesn’t make the player jump out of their chair, it is scary in other ways, as in more disturbing and haunting

I have a theory. You know that Fredbear plush guy, right? Well, he kept trying to confert the kid. Here's an example; "Tommorow is another day." The plush is telling him tommorow won't be as bad as today. Every day for the kid is bad, because of his brother, and also every night, because of the monsters that attack him at night. But the plush tells him different. There is no way for random words telling you what to do to survive to just pop right up in front of your eyes, not on anything. So, who exactly would be giving survival directions? The Fredbear plushie. He wants the kid to survive. But, because of the kid's brother, that was not the case. The kid couldn't go without _some_ comfort, so he brought the plushie with him. Why did I just say that? That's because, in my theory, the plushie knows what happened. He knows because he witnessed it. You may be asking, "But why didn't he stop them?" Well, that is a good question. My only guess is that one of the bullies held him back. This is where Nightmare kicks in. After the Bite, two things started happening. One, the plushie felt sad for the kid, but began to feel hatred for his brother, the one who caused his death. Two, the Nightmares got angry because they had nothing to eat. In my theory, here's how the Nightmares work; Basically, in enough light, or in daylight hours in general, the Nightmares are disguised as plushies. That is, all except for Nightmare Fredbear. In the daytime, he hides in the attic, which the family doesn't even use. But, these plushies they turn into, the kid didn't even know we're in his house. They are not his so-called "friends". Here's some proof: Notice, in the minigames, in the pile of plusies he calls his "friends", look at the Foxy plushie. His head is missing. Now look at the plushie Nightmare Foxy turns into. His head is intact. The proves they aren't the same. Anyway, back to the Nightmares themselves. As one could guess, they feed off of people, of course. But after the kid's death, they thought they had nothing to eat. The Fredbear plushie notices this, and makes an agreement with them. If they could help him get his revenge on the brother for what he did to the kid he was trying to protect by killing him, they could eat whatever's left of him. But, since this was such a big occasion, enemies joining sides for once, they decide to bring in Nightmare. And thus, the night begins. You aren't playing as the kid in this night, but rather, his brother. Why is he sleeping in his little brother's bedroom? I don't know. But he's there, nonetheless. So, yeah. That's my theory. I hope it was interesting.

You should go the extra list and type 20 20 20 20 or 20 20 20 20 then press enter, it is night 8, nightmare is mostly active in night 8

You only type 20 in extras menu,

Its impossible to finish night 2 in my tablet. I mostly reach 4am
