I'm still kind of amazed that Scott was able to get four reasonably distinct and substantial commercial games out within the span of a year, more or less alone, without knowing that the first would be successful enough to warrant sequels, and without any real drop in quality. That workflow must have been insane.

I completely agree with you on your opinions on how the franchise evolved. The only thing I disagree with is that I quite like fnaf 4 since I find it the scariest and even if it has a different brand of horror design, it still felt like it could take place in the same universe as the first three games. Sister location brought the series into sci-fi territory and the series never fully recovered. It completely broke the previously established world building and completely changed the series’ priorities. I felt it would have been better as an alternative-reality spinoff. And I know that the sci-fi comes from Scott Cawthon’s love of sci-fi, but it really felt weird after he said that he would try to not make any fnaf games that weren’t “fnaf” enough after fnaf world, but it seems to me that, to him, being “fnaf” enough just means having a scary atmosphere. I personally kind of felt betrayed because it still felt like Scott was morphing fnaf into something he liked instead of what the series already was, despite promising not to do that anymore. The only time the series felt that good again was fnaf 6, which actually felt like it made the best out of a bad situation, but fnaf vr and onward had even worse lore, not to mention all of the b.s. the books had been making up since “The Twisted Ones.” Also, to answer your question on if anyone wants fnaf to be what it is today: the answer is “yes.” I have become very disenfranchised with the greater fnaf community because on one side, you have many people who like overly complex lore while not caring if said lore is even good or not, and on the other side, you have people who never really liked fnaf for what it was, but enjoyed the colorful characters and assigned personalities to them, and when the games followed suit, they just ate it up, even if the horror of the franchise came from the lifeless looks on the animatronics’ faces. To me, the death-nail for my passion for the series was the movie, which completely misunderstood so many of the great aspect of the first game (the lifelessness of the animatronics, phone guy being the perfect balance of comedy and horror, the power mechanic adding tension, the perfect sound design, etc.), but instead of pointing out these criticisms, the community completely praised the movie and painted anyone who criticized it as out-of-touch critics who never even liked the franchise. (To be clear I do not hate anyone who is a modern fan, I’m just saying that since fnaf has changed into a completely different type of franchise, the fans have changed with it and it kind of feels disheartening as an old school fan.)

What do you think of FNAF 6/Pizzeria Simulator? It feels like it went unnoticed after SL put off a lot of people due to being very story-driven and Scott releasing it as a 'joke game' with little to no publicity. I think it has a nice combination of multiple gameplay styles and wraps up the story in a very satisfying way. I also recommend FNAF PLUS if you want to try out FNAF 1 with a little more bite. Also, did you delete your other FNAF video? It's always a gamble when I enter your channel and I see several videos gone. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the Quest for Chubby Drinks video gone. Thank God it's on your archive channel. I should start archiving your whole channel from now on... :p

I'm working on my own video/presentation of sorts that will include my thoughts, but ESSENTIALLY; After Sister Location, which I loved but as you said, felt like it steered away from what made the franchise so initially captivating, I kinda dropped off. I checked back in here and there, would just to figure out what happened while I was out, and then I'd usually drop off again. My general thought right now is that the franchise just isn't good. First three games tell an INCREDIBLE and cohesive narrative which I adore, I have very strong and negative opinions on FNaF 4, Sister Location was AMAZING as it's own stand alone experience, Pizza Sim was a good(second) send off with some good ideas, and UCN was a decent epilogue. Everything after ranges GREATLY in quality, Help Wanted is a really great remake of the first three games featuring some cool renditions/remixes of FNaF 4 and Sister Location ideas. I guess technically Help Wanted 2 is also that but it didn't feel as fun, scary, or interesting to me. Very stale and the horror just isn't as strong there. Security Breach...I could write an essay rivaling the lengths of Gone With The Wind dissecting my many issues with that one. The series dropped off and while that's fine, it still has it's audience, I can't help but feel it's lost what made it so initially special and interesting. I've been really enjoying the recent Into The Pit game, it's the most like classic FNaF a game in the series has felt for me in years, but I do think the series needs to just reboot in order to reorient itself. Although, more than likely what Scott and other future creatives are going to want out of FNaF is something that I think will never truly resemble the same thing many of us attached ourselves to initially.

Ah, that series. I was in my mid 20's when the first game came out and every youtube channel under the sun covered it, I thought the core idea was neat but the gameplay looked so annoying that I never bothered to try any of the games (despite the fact that I'm pretty sure I own a couple of them on Steam), and then new games seemed to continuously pop-up one after the other and by that point I was like "too late to hop on this hype-train now" so I just stopped paying attention. I still find it weird that this franchise meant to evoque nostalgia for something from the 80's and 90's (from what I heard, those types of restaurants don't exist in my side of the world) ended up being super popular among kids born during the 2000's instead of what I assume was its target audience originally.
@FrameRater5 ай бұрын
It is strange, my belief is kids like it for completely different reasons. That would explain why the series evolved to be less animatronic-focused and instead has this "creepy teddy bear" vibe now.

I remember watching gameplay videos and theories for the FNAF games back in 2016-2018, and I still can remember the time Ultimate Custom Night came out. I then bought almost all of the games in 2021 I played the first 4 games and 100% completed almost all of them, with the exception of FNAF 2 (yes, I beat 4/20, Aggressive Nightmare and Blind Mode + Mad Freddy + Insta-Foxy). Man, these games are actually genuinely terrifying. So many animatronics and mechanics to keep track of, you have to play the harder nights almost perfectly. A big part of the fear factor for the games to me is jumpscares are how you die, so you get a fear of messing up at any point and thus getting one. It's what makes the games the most stressful games I ever played. FNAF 4 is my favourite game in the franchise. I think it has the best animatronic designs (Nightmare Bonnie and Nightmare Fredbear in particular are standouts to me) and the gameplay loop is the best and most well-balanced one. The game requires you to listen to important audio cues to survive and it has little rng. This also makes the jumpscares more effective and scary. Beating Blind Mode + Mad Freddy + Insta-Foxy was the most satisfied I was beating a hard challenge in a game.

I'm in the exact same boat as you; having followed FNaF since the first entry, starting to lose interest around the fourth, and fully falling off during Sister Location. It's interesting to me that you praised FNaF 2 so highly - I remember not liking it as much, since it took out most of the tense resource management and had a more fast-paced, almost timing-centric gameplay style. In my mind the best game in the (core) series will always be the first, and each one after that was just a little bit worse than the previous.
