Mark - Wow, the "excitement" of farming never ends does it. I heard you talk about the Joker in a recent video, and then again today. So I took a brief time out, and went to the Horsch site to see if I could learn more. Low and behold I found some great pictures, and then a surprise. There was also one of your videos from last year when you got this piece of equipment. Now I know about jokers - I learned something and can declare my day complete. Thanks for all you do sharing what you and Sandi do every day. At 73 I'm still learning, and I love it. God bless you with good weather throughout the growing season. May your harvest be better than your wildest expectations. Stay safe, and stay strong.

This weather has changed drastically throught the years. It must be nerve wracking, especially when one depends on the weather to make it work. There is so much to learn about agriculture and planting seeds and crops! Thank you for using the drone, the view helped so much to understand the concept, the music was nice! it set the tone as well and gave it an interesting vibe! As always we enjoy your videos, looking forward to the next one.

We are coming into winter in Queensland I thought you were in spring ☀️💦☔️. We never get really cold here. When our daughter lived in the uk her summers were the same as our winter. I hope your crops survive. The one thing we cannot control or accurately predict is the weather. We are still doing ok in Queensland with Coronavirus no new cases in last 24 hours. We have had a couple of problems with aged care homes same as NSW. Victoria seems to be having a lot of problems. They closed 12 McDonald’s because a delivery driver tested positive. I think we are in the baby steps area. Stay safe.

Thank you for showing the Joker better. It looks to be a lot like a disc, but it uses the scalloped or serrated blades. My disc just uses the solid blades. It doesn't have the smoother (I think it's called) on the back either. Around here, I think most farmers have a one to three row harrow on the back of their disc. Some have what I think is called a rolling basket behind their disc. Good luck with the weather. Around here every time it gets dried up some, we get more rain. Today is the second day in a row and it's suppose to rain more tomorrow. I never will get my garden worked and planted. I have an area staked out for garden that is 64'x224', just for me. There is a 8x12 shed on it, but most of the rest is for planting. I'm going to try something new this year, I'm going to put down woven ground cover. Never tried it before, but have seen some great results for some people on KZbin. Good luck with your garden too. Another interesting and informative video. Thank you

Never a dull moment farming. No matter if it's corn or cranberries. There are weather concerns early in the season. With corn it the new seed. Cranberries it's the new bud that is suseptible to cold. We should be done with frost by now here in S. E. Ma. but I think there is still another chance this week. even though it's starting to warm up.

Air temperature does not necessarily effect the soil temps. We get cold snaps and the soil will stay warm. It creates the most beautiful mist or fog above the ground.

Another nice video, loved the drone footage! You mentioned that for the last fours years you haven’t been able to plant beans any earlier then late May. Could that be , for your area, the new normal time to plant? Is this an exception to when you normal get to plant them? It must be so frustrating to want to plant, but Mother Nature says...hold on just a moment there. Ugh! I hope it all works out well and you get what you wished for , a nice warm rain with out any cold snaps. 👍👍👍❤️🚜🚜

Great education on the Joker and the reasoning on the how and why of planting the soybeans at 15 inches. Really good drone footage...was Jack running the Joker and you the drone...or you driving and drone it both? Sure wish you the best with the cold snap and tour crops. Planting and harvesting are so dependent on Mother Nature....farmers and ranchers are major gamblers, to bad they aren’t playing with Monopoly money. Praying for the weather to be a little nicer to you.

The joker rt throws soil out of the side of the discs, other manufacturers use a side shield to contain the spoils within the track width of the implement. Seems very few of your subscribers have modern tillage/planting experience?

@MarkBrock4 жыл бұрын
Well, wheat we grow ends up as flour for cookies and crackers. Corn as a nice steak and soybeans as margarine or cooking oil. Most of the stuff we grow ends up as an ingredient more than a final product.

I think my brain fart from the previous vlog post has "passed"! So this - If the soybean has already imbibed its' initial moisture before you receive that cold rain will it still sustain deleterious effects or will imbibing moisture at a warmer soil temperature provide it protection from the cold rain? You've probably already planted half of it by now. just when I thought this spring was going so swimmingly.
@MarkBrock4 жыл бұрын
If the first 24 hours is warm water, the cold water later won't "shock" the seed and it will be ok.

Soybeans really fascinate me with populations ranging from the low 100,000's to over 200k with some people using a planter, others an air seeder like yourself and still others use a box drill then there are 7 1/2" spaced beans up to 30" spaced but then some do 15" spacing but then again some outfits do 20" or 22" beans and from what I can infer from the myriad of different avenues there is to getting the seed in the ground my understanding is the end results in terms of yield don't seem to vary too terribly much in the grand scheme of things with what I've read online
