I have always thought that it is impossible to equalize before deflating…

Isn't e for elevate? Why would you equalize at the surface?

Why would you elevate when you're trying to descend? They made a mistake. It's actually SORTD (Signal, orientate, regulator, time, descend). Don't know where they got the E from....

+Mattrition I don't know where they got the e from either. I was thinking elevate your deflator hose as you descend. But yes somebody was confused.

It is always SORT(ED) for descend and ST(EL)AR for ascend. E is Elevate (deflator hose).

Equalize at surface will make you much easier to equalize at the first 3-5 m. Especially there are wave on the surface, you should descend quickly. cuz it is much easier to equalize at surface than underwater.

"it is much easier to equalize at surface than underwater." Since the pressures in your inner and outer ears will already be equal on the surface, there is nothing to equalize when on the surface. It is only when the outer pressure exceeds the inner pressure that you can equalize.

Shouldn't the thumb down (descend) signal be in the beginning on S like Signal?

that is how i learned it. and teach it. i love the videos but i agree with travelfreak78 the signal should be added to the ok signal
