i watched a few videos before this one and i think this is the best. yes, not perfect but other videos missed other steps also. yes, bcd strap was missed, dust cap in the end and wetting bcd. but hey, this man checked both regulators and saved some air testing via the both mouthpieces. other videos didn't even check the backup regulator. no to mention, he did manual inflate of the bcd and tested all purge valves. even with the audio, this helped me remember so much more.

Wow this is fantastic. I'm just about to do my scuba review and this will help heaps more than the content provided by PADI. I think not having verbal instruction will help..it will make me think more about what needs to be done. Many thanks.

Knowledge will have the greatest impact on your ability to overcome panic if something was to happen underwater. There are many diving emergency solutions you can learn that will prepare you for an unfortunate event. Diving is fun and accidents are rare, but the knowledge of how to respond to a situation can replace panic with a positive action to correct the situation.

I am a former Navy diver and was a bit spoiled by underwater communications. So, I dive a mask called AGA with wireless comms. Maybe that type of rig might also make you feel more comfortable underwater. Being able to communicate freely with your diving partner adds another great aspect to diving while looking at all the beautiful scenery. It is also a great way for new divers to express concerns they may have to the more experienced diver or instructor.

Love the vids. I only disagree with the notion that after closing your tank and hitting the purge valve on only one second stage regulator is enough to drain the lines in the system. Some systems will still have high pressure air remaining in the LPI and alternate lines.
@dale9189
@dale9189 5 жыл бұрын
I was taught to breath from your regulators while watching your tank pressure though to make sure it holds steady. That way you know there are no restrictions like a partially opened shutoff valve or problem with a hose. You could have full pressure but hardly any flow.... (And that music! Argh.....:)

the one thing that I would have added would be before I connected the Octo to the tank is I usually send a purge of air through the tank o-ring before connecting the Octo to it just to clear out any salt that might cause a bad seal also I use a little bit of saliva (spit) on the o-rings before connecting them just to give them a moist seal before pressing them together. but thats just me. :)

Wouldn't have been better to rinse the BCD previous to assemble this to the tank?, it would help to detect if there is present any contamination that could slip the tank off the BCD in water.

It is something some people do to limit the impact on the high-pressure seat of the reg, perhaps lengthening its life. It is a very small detail and if you are servicing your reg every year is probably not important!

Using all the gestures is a great way to include the hearing impaired to your instruction. Think that a combination of voice and gesture instruction would be better than just a sound track of music. Gestures are a communication technique underwater, but verbal instruction topside is beneficial to some. There is also a transcription option on KZbin that will convert your speech into text automatically. Just a suggestion.

So many critics, if you can make a better video then do it otherwise keep your uninformed/uneducated opinions to yourself. If you don't like the soundtrack then turn the volume off and play your own music, the visual queues and written instructions are all you need to follow this video.

If the needle drops during a breath, it would mean the air is probably turned off. You can get about 3 full breaths off the line after a tank is closed but the needle will drop dramatically during each.

Modern Valvels are far less likely to get stuck in the open position and the 1/4 turn back does sometimes result in a tank being left only 1/4 of a turn open. So just turn it on all the way is probably the best option. Its not a huge thing though.

To amplify what goprocarribean said, if someone trying to be "helpful" mistakenly turns your valve completely off and then back a quarter turn, your SPG will read full pressure and you will be able to breath from your regulators without seeing a pressure drop...at the surface; but once you go deep where you need higher flow you may suddenly find yourself having trouble breathing. Valves should only be turned full on or full off to avoid any confusion over their state.
