Oh. and another use for the thermal detector would be to check for hot spots in the house battery bank...that's normally an indication of a failure on the horizon.

Love the program, it's obvious you are both pros at this. You may want to mention the issues of network compatibility with the DOOGEE phones. Many of them are not compatible with CDMA networks, some DOOGEE phones cannot support voice over LTE. Some aren't certified for use. I'm not sure about the V30. So far it seems it may not work on AT&T networks. I would think that world wide cruisers would need a phone that would work over multiple networks depending on their location.

Went to the PYI website to see where their hose clamps are made. Wasn't there. I wonder if they're rebranded ABA clamps (the flexible tool that comes with them makes me think they might be) or whether they're a copy. ABA is a Swedish company which I'd happily buy from but I don't want to buy a Chinese copy. Is the place of manufacture on the PYI clamps and/or packaging? Thanks.

I’m curious if you have the same issues with old Swans . The old Swans 57 dosent have a skeg hung rudder . Do you consider them a sell out . Is it the two rudders that throws you off. If Hylas was smart they’d buy the Tayanas name and produce one line . If at a reasonable price for the name . Maybe a 55 . The old yard is right next to Hylas. They seem so similar. I wonder if any of the Tayana craftsmen went to work at Hylas when the Tayana yard closed. Like the hose clamps
@svfairisle
@svfairisle 9 ай бұрын
Yes, if you look right back at episode 3 we interviewed 2 Norwegian cruisers who lost their first Swan because the rudder fell off. They abandoned ship and the yacht was last seen being towed to Cuba by a Russian ship! Live Swans, but personally wouldn’t pick one to cruise in
@briandale8386

@@svfairisle. There is something to be said about stronger is not alway the best . Having a large impact to a skeg could cause a hole in the hull . Compared to a light design rudder without a skeg that breaks away clean . Only causing loss of steering. If I was gambling like we all do . Hole or steering ,I would take loss of steering.. I’ll go check out the video

@svfairisle 9 ай бұрын
@@briandale8386 yes that’s true and was an issue when skegged rudders first came in instead of full keeled boats, they didn’t build them strong enough and there were many sinkings after a hard grounding. This is why Kraken are so careful to have a super strong skeg, most are okay these days but it is an issue. Sadly the orca attacks have proved a lot of rudder shafts are not strong enough too, several boats have sunk after an impact on the rudder stock
@briandale8386
@briandale8386 9 ай бұрын
@@svfairisle If I had a Kraken built I’d ask for a bronze post coming out of the skeg up into the lazerette. With a bronze platform that attaches to the skeg post then attaches to the wall and the lower framing attaching to the rudder post supports. The old Tayana 55 was metal . And after time the skeg post and platform would rust away. I’m wondering if kraken has made that systems design different. When it come to the support system inside the boat supporting the skeg . All the information I find is the outside system of the stainless skeg framing . Anyway good talk and Happy New Year . And be safe .

I hope nobody kills themselves with diveblu3. If you are not a certified diver, do not use this. AND if you are not a certified independent diver, do not dive alone. These rules still apply if you wanna stay alive. And seriously, going to 10 meters, why not freedive it?
@svfairisle
@svfairisle 9 ай бұрын
Because unless you’re an expert free diver by the time you get down 10m you’re coming back up again. People with boats need to work on them and this makes that easy. Even the biggest yacht won’t be more than 2.5m deep so this is perfect and safe unless you’re an idiot. You can put restrictions on everything, personally I think people can be responsible for their own safety and the onus should be on them to educate themselves. That can be done in many ways, you don’t need to be a dive master to use this device any more than you need to be a yacht master to sail
@oceancrossingutopia
@oceancrossingutopia 9 ай бұрын
@@svfairisle people dont do stupid things with devices like this because they are idiots. They do it because they panic from being in an environment they are not accustomed to. So, they need a minimum of training. Now that you obviously have educated yourself, can you enlighent us all by telling how deep you need to go with this device to rupture your lung while surfacing?
@svfairisle
@svfairisle 9 ай бұрын
If you think you're liable to panic and dash to the surface then you shouldn't be diving and you would be stupid to try. It's possible, but not probable, to do damage from 5m. The beauty of this gear is it's easy, no fuss, so people are much more likely to use it just as extended snorkeling many times before they even think about going to 5 or 10 metres. In my experience that doesn't happen with conventional diving. I've been out on many novice trips with PADI instructors and they always take you down to 10m, sometimes more. I guess they think if you've come to dive then that the minimum expected and they're probably right. I would guess everyone using this gear will do many test shallow dives, why wouldn't you?

About your thermal imaging doogee. I can think of a few safety uses for the yachting fraternity, which would be great for you to cover in another episode or pass onto RNLA 1. Use of night vision to rescue MOB during the night. This is likely to work because the head is the hottest part of the body and as long as it is above water is likely to provide a heat signature which will be larger in cold waters. 2. Identification of vessels in fog. Can you either due some testing or pass on the suggestion. I have the doogee S95 GT which has night vision but no high resolution thermal imaging as with yours.

Appreciate that your boat is primarily about passage making, but do you not miss being able to sit together in your ‘comfy seats?’ At the very top of our list as a couple is a place where we can cozy together and it is so frustrating that so many sailing boats do not provide an outdoor area to lounge together in comfort. Small point I know and not taking anything away from your great suggestions.
@svfairisle
@svfairisle 8 ай бұрын
No I know what you mean, but it’s not something we’ve missed outside to be honest. I do agree though having somewhere to lounge together is important and for us the important point is that the saloon seating is conducive to that. Ours isn’t perfect but we have a big U shaped settee around the table - I took out the huge table we had and made a much smaller one with drop down leaves so the usual position is for us to be on either side using it like a chase long where you can put your feet up and have good back support. What you absolutely don’t want is a seating area where all you can do is sit up at a table, you need to be able to lounge around.

Hint about the Phone Thermal Imaging ... Checking Engine Temperature and Crucial Heat Points around the engine alternator and the like ... I completely agree - I'm certain that it'll prove very useful! Equally, I think you'll find that the absolute accuracy doesn't matter. Rather, you'll use it to hunt for abnormal hot-spots. $1,800. They do have an option for a mini dive tank (pretty much a must have if you're diving more than 5m). I work in IT, you need redundancy!! (see, two exclamation marks!) I do love the idea. $2K isn't cheap, but regular scuba gear adds up fast (what does PADI stand for?😅).

Hi there just want to congratulate you both on yet another entertaining, informative video. One thing I would like to stress, this coming from a B.S.A.C. Advanced instructor (retired). If you were not already aware, at 10m depth with your breathing device you are now experiencing 2x atmospheres of pressure. Double the pressure and you halve the volume. This relates equally in reverse. Halve the pressure ie 10m to surface you double the volume. The SAFETY point I'm trying to make here is an average man's lung capacity is approx. 6ltrs. A panicked bolt to the surface without breathing out will result in 12ltr. lungs. Whoops that don't sound good. It wouldn't be either. Sorry if this caused any anxiety, that was never my intention, just a "Heads up" as they say. Good luck can't wait for the next film.

Yes that’s very true, I did have a safety section but I cut it, just sounded too patronising I thought. I’m sure people on boats know better than to hold their breath when ascending. Those fenders seem great - especially now that you could have more fenders on board than you might otherwise be able to carry. The caveats are that you need back-up pumps for inflating, back-up batteries for the pumps, etc. Could you inflate them manually? How do you mitigate risks in the absolute worst case scenario? On the whole, I'm curious about how you've set up your boat on a holistic level to accommodate all the gadgetry.
@svfairisle

Yes good points. We have retained 3 of our old fenders so if there was an emergency like a boat drifting into us in an anchorage we could deploy them. Storing 3 fenders on the pushpit is great 8 was a mess! The Fendertex fenders have the standard dinghy/ paddle board valve so we already have 2 manual pumps and there’s no shortage of 12v outlets on board!
