You need to lower the game volume of the cannon fire, as it is hard to hear your voice when they go off. The video is useless without it as I could not hear you properly.

Thanks so much for this video. I have not bought the game yet, however, I will and I am trying to get ahead with the proper way to do things. There seems to be a lot to take in and multiple things to consider, it is quite overwhelming to be able to place everything in some sort of structure. These types of videos are really valuable. Cheers :)

@@MichaelSharp667 Great stuff, thank you. Yes, there is so much to pick up, I get all the sailing and fighting bits, it seems simple enough. The bits I can't quite piece together is the port stuff....i.e. gathering resources, building improvements for your fleet. I think I also picked up that you can build new designs of ships in port too? The other thing is it looks quite hard to make in game cash? I also noticed that you can sell ships an steal ships from other players? I was excited to see what you were trying to do in your videos as it was just what I am looking for. So with all that said, ideas for videos...... 1. An overview of the big picture, what is the end goal, how do you know you have finished or are doing Well? 2. How to make money and what things to spend it on first? 3. A review of the ships: how they are grouped I.e. destroyer class, Frigate Class, Battleship class etc, strengths and weaknesses, giving each your own "Michael Sharp score"? Maybe too, your own favourites from each class and why? There is so much to ask, but anything you put together will be very much appreciated. I see you are just getting going with your channel (I think) and wanted to say your speaking voice is excellent and your style comes across very professional so I think you have the foundations for an excellent channel if you decide to invest your time in it. I think I will pick up the game later today. Cheers Martin

I was on vacation for two weeks and just getting caught up with my channel. I have a new video out as of yesterday so check it out! Great video. I've only got 200 hours or so in the game at the moment but enjoying it a lot. Tip for new players: Join a clan and do some fleet battles with your clanmates. If you join a high ranked player in a higher tier ship, have him disable the sails from the enemy, position yourself behind the enemy ship and go mental on the rear. XP is earned through damage done so if the enemy is dead in the water, you can have a field day in damaging the enemy ship from the back. :)

I'll give another tip, as long as you can acquire a trader ship on a PVP server I'd recommend a traders brig as it's fast. On a PVE server get the Indiaman. In order to be able to buy either of these I have no problem capturing the traders snow with my starting cutter. Or at least I did before buying my DLC Hercules. If you're willing to pay the extra 10 bucks I'd highly recommend it, it jump starts your early game nicely.

Fun trivia of no consequence (particularly to this very useful video). The currency "Real" is pronounced Ray-Al (a possible new favorite Southern boy's name. . . we'll have to see). For extra authenticity, roll the ""R"". (Not for the weak of heart.) Emphasis is o the second syllable. That would be the Spanish pronunciation. Portuguese - you don't want to go there. Not sure a native English speaker can even pronounce Portuguese. As said, a trivial point. Excellent video, well done!

Am considering purchasing the game but am not pleased by what I read on the Game-Labs forum. As with other games it starts out very well balanced then the DLC starts messing things up; port bonus creates overpowered ships, etc. I'm seeing the same path that led me to hate playing "Uncharted Waters Online."

I understand the mixed feelings people have about DLC content, and I share some of those feelings as well! Luckily, the DLC ships in this game are considered to be lower-tiered ships now. When they are redeemed they get random port bonuses, sometimes none at all, and can be bested by the ships players build themselves through the crafting system. The advantage is if you need a “throwaway” ship or need something immediately, as crafting takes time, you can redeem the ship and go on your merry way!

I don't understand the trader tool. The info looks like I could just buy the Sevilla muskets in San Augustin for 11k and sell them in the same place for 54k rather than having to go to Charlston to do it for 12k/57k. What I cant work out how to do is find a place selling the muskets/product cheap, then somewhere that actually wants to buy them for higher. Otherwise good tips, ty.

Yes, I did mess this up in the video as I was using information from pre-release. Now that the game is released, that specific example is not viable. If you look in port and find a resource, such as maize, and see that you can buy it in Charleston for 535 reals, then go to the trader tool and type it in, you will see you can sell it in San Agustin for 1052 reals. I apologize for the confusion!

Can you get all ships in PVE mode like victory?

You can get any ship through crafting, or capturing them (non-DLC ships) from players. However you can’t capture 1st-4th rates from ai - you can only craft them or capture from players.

@@MichaelSharp667 Oh ok, but I thought PVE was against AI only? Am I mistaken? What are the differences between PVP and PVE. My understanding is PVP is free for all, any one can attack anyone. PVE was players could only attack AI.

Ah sorry I missed that in your first comment. PvP and PvE may be different. I have only ever played on PvP servers so unfortunately, I don't know the answer to that question!

In PvE you can capture anything from the AI. including 1st rates. In PvE there are no Port Battles and you can't (obviously) attack other players.

But the PVP server has both pve and pvp, its just the best way to play the game. Not that hard to avoid combat, but the risk is a big part of making the rewards rewarding.

Is there a shipworm mechanic? If the devs are as greedy I've heard it wouldn't surprise me if they added a mechanic that gradually destroys the hull and can only be repaired by careening, which i guess would require a premium currency. It would be realistic and historically accurate but kind of stupid in a game like this

The game is SUPER easy in one play session I started out with my cutter and at the end of it I had 1.3 million reals. There are a couple websites you can look up that tell you the exact price of items, after you complete the first mission you receive 50K reals. I'd recommend just starting to buy resources and moving them from one port to another, or trying to capture a trading ship (trading ships carry WAY more cargo). I also heard if you complete the tutorial all the way through to the final exam you get a free frigate. I can't verify that , though as I haven't even bothered because I already had a 3rd rate constitution by my first day playing.
