This advice is essential, I was playing too far away from the bridge. No one ever told me that and I've never seen it mentioned in any online videos. Sounding much better now. Thanks

@Jasiah Trace I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.

For beginner's...this is very important! I learned to play with my hand extended in the relaxed position and it is VERY hard to change. Learn what Jim is teaching and stick with it! Good video

Terrific video! Great explanations and clear demonstration of the techniques. This is exactly the sort of information about technique that makes a huge difference but is missing in most beginner videos. Thank you for producing this.

I played a little classical guitar as a kid, and has recently fallen in love with American guitar and banjo. Thanks for these videos and great explanations!

Amazing video, I'm a long-time guitarist, but I have a 5 string banjo that I mess around with from time to time. I have tried using the finger and thumb picks but really struggled with them, as I am used to feeling the strings on my fingers, this felt like playing with shoes on my fingers. You video has showed me that I was making every mistake known 😅.. I'll give it another go after seeing your video, thank you...

Great advice and video. That's exactly how I have always positioned my right hand. However, have you ever noticed how far Bela Fleck's index and middle finger are from the strings! Go figure! 😀

really harch sound, suitable for harch sounding music, not really good hand technique. it would be ok for some music, certainly not a universal sounding technique, just my thought, maybe you should say its only for bluegrass.
