Scott, thanks for corroborating my experience with the X-T5. I've been shooting with an X-T3 for 3.5 years (Street, landscape, birds with the 100-400mm). Everything I wanted in the X-T3 was served on a silver platter with the X-T5. I bought one, I went out and shot birds and couldn't wait to try the new "Bird" subject detection that my X-T3 lacks. Same experience with bird tracking. My shots were not blurry/out of focus but slightly fuzzy and not sharp. I then set up a tripod and did still shots with the X-T3 and X-T5. (Base ISO on both, same aperture on both and 2 second delay to eliminate shake). Same thing. X-T5 was slightly fuzzy on edges, X-T3 was not. I sent it back. I still want one but want to see what becomes of this issue first.

It's a great camera. Totally worth an upgrade from an X-T1-3 for IBIS, 40 mp and battery life alone. My pet hate (which no one else mentions) is that it is far to easy too accidentally move the drive mode dial. Very often find myself firing off CL or a daft ADV frame.

Get yourself a leather cover. I did that and it goes on the bottom half of the camera and it just creates a bit of a shield between that button and the one you’re talking about

Well done for not letting the crows and helicopter distract you too much. Great review. I'm so close to pushing the button to buy an XT5 which will replace my old Pentax K20d. Other option i'm looking at is the Sony A7c and Lumix S5mkii.

I would add one other thing to this camera and I’ve been using it for about five weeks now and that is the dynamic range is incredible. How do I know this? Well I have been a landscape photographer for quite some time and I’ve used a number of full frame cameras through my journey and the NikonD850 has been my camera of choice and while the Fuji XT5 is a crop sensor camera. This thing is incredible in low light and also in dynamic range is awesome ..😮

Informative and well presented video. Thank you. I have both the X-H2S and the X-T5. I agree wholeheartedly with you about subject recognition versus accurate and consistent autofocus. I found both cameras were similar in that aspect. However, after Fujifilm released firmware update 3.0 for the X-H2S, that was a game changer. The subject recognition got even better and the autofocus inaccuracy largely went away. Night and day difference. My ‘hit’ rate rose quite a bit. I am confidant Fujifilm will provide the same AF improvements in a firmware update for the X-T5 and X-H2. After all, with the exception of speed, the AF algorithms are identical. I think we will get it this spring. Again, the thank you for your video.

If that update makes it to the X-T5 then I’ll most likely pick one up 👍

Does the stacked sensor in the X-H2S benefit AF ‘ therefore give X-H2S advantage over X-T5/ X-H2 in regards to AF?
@DennisMook Жыл бұрын
@@TCinSoCal The overall benefit is speed. The stacked sensor readout in the X-H2S is faster than of the X-T5. That means it can acquire a target and focus on it more quickly. How much more quickly? I don’t know how one could measure that without some specialized instruments. That said, the X-T5 is no slouch. It is also quick. The more important aspect is focus accuracy and, right now because of the 3.0 firmware release, the X-H2S’s AF is more accurate in the sense of fast tracking in AF-C as one would need for sports, birds-in-flight, etc. For static or slow moving subjects, there really is no advantage as the X-T5’s AF is accurate and consistent. The other two benefits of the stacked sensor is almost no rolling shutter when using the electronic shutter and faster burst rates. As far as handling is concerned, I much prefer the X-T5 over the X-H2S. Recently, I wrote a post for my blog (The Wandering Lensman) explaining why the X-T5 has become the ‘perfect’ camera for me. www.thewanderinglensman.com/2023/02/ive-finally-found-my-perfect-camera.html

@@DennisMook Thank you Dennis. What would you say your ISO value tolerance is with the X-T5? 3200? 6400? Higher? I don’t *need* 40 MP.. would be great for landscapes but I don’t want to give up less ISO noise for that vs 26 MP.
@DennisMook Жыл бұрын
@@TCinSoCal I use the X-T5 for all of my photography except for birds, wildlife, children’s sports, etc. In other words, not for fast moving subjects although it should be fine for them, just not as fast as the H2S. For those I use the X-H2S to maximize benefit. Right tool for the right job. The X-T5 is for landscapes, cityscapes, old infrastructure, nature, travel abstracts and those types of photography that are more contemplative-no hurry and where the higher resolution to bring out fine detail, texture, etc. is valued. That said, I have not used the T5 at really high ISOs. I think ISO 3200 is about as high as I’ve had to use it as otherwise, when the light gets low and I want the best image quality, I’ll mount the camera on a tripod so as to keep the ISO low. Lower ISOs have another benefit that many don’t take into consideration and that is the lower the ISO, the higher the dynamic range. Dynamic range falls off quite quickly when you raise the ISO. When the light is low, such as night scenes, you would want maximum dynamic range, I would think. But I digress. To better answer your question, I think there is about a one stop difference in digital noise between the two cameras once you get past ISO 1600. I’ll use both, if I have to, up to ISO 6400 and then use Topaz DeNoise AI or DXO’s Deep Prime noise reduction and that pretty much solves any noise problems while keeping fine detail. Those two programs are quite amazing.

Fujifilm knocked it out of the park with the X-T5. The sensor is great as are the ergonomics, IBIS, and customisation. The JPEGs with the right film recipes are also awesome.

Love that they brought back classic style. Don't love that there's no battery grip option, because Fuji makes the best battery grips.

As someone who's looking to upgrade from an X-T1 for family documentation, I'm conflicted. I'm torn because the X-T30 is a bit more user friendly if I had to hand it over to another family member with that Auto switch. With the X-T5, I like the AF, the build quality, the battery life, and the potential it'll be "enough" for quite some time. What I don't like is that I doubt i'll be taking advantage of the megapixel count, it's double the price of the X-T30, and that I'd have to get lenses that work with the camera well. On the other hand, the X-T30 is small, has easy controls, good enough video, and likely also enough for my needs. The kicker is I'd much rather be in the XPro or X-E line, but they're not as good for video. I'm 80/20 photo to video, I just need to be able to take clips easily. Which is another point for the X-T30.

My Fuji Pro kit is the XT5 for stills and b roll video and the XH2 for video/vlogging and back up stills. Great set up. If I shot sports or action I'd just add the XH2. Fantastic overall system from Fuji. The new firmware has greatly improved the subject AF accuracy. The grip would have been nice as an option, and wouldn't have cost Fuji much to add the contacts. I think they borrowed Canon's cripple hammer, which is always bad! 🙂

I utilise both the XT4 and XH-1. I 'upgraded' my XT1 for the 4. Which, in many respects, was not the best idea. The flip out screen is an annoyance and it seems buggy with occasional errors occurring, hence I haven't got the grip for it. So for portrait type shots I use the H1 with grip. The H2 series controls are not for me, so I don't see those as a potential upgrade. The T5 certainly seems an improvement, for me over the T4, so maybe I'll swap out in a year or so. I like your reasoning and concur with most of what you stated. As far as the 40mb that's not of interest, the 16.1 of the T1 was sufficient, and to my eyes the files produced superior.

I agree about the battery grip. The lack of that as an option was my reason for not adding the X-T5 to my stable. I have an X-Pro2, X-T2, X-T3 and X-T4 and I had considered the 5. In the same way, I love my X-Pro2 but decided against adding the X-Pro3 because of its odd rear screen and lack of the D-Pad. However, I disagree with you on the rear screen on the X-T5. I love the design on my X-T4 more than my X-T2 and X-T3. Maybe we would both be happy it the next generation X-T6 or X-Pro4, had a multi-flip design screen more like the X-T100. Loved the video itself though.

Excuse me, your x-t5 camera, after the cover of the sd card is closed, is there any problem with the tightness? When you press the outer cover of the sd card, the outer cover will be elastic, a little not tight, and there is a tolerance. Do you have it? what about this situation? thanks

Certainly interesting. I’ve got the xt1/2/3and xh1. I have some Nikon stuff as well and got the fringer adapter to use some of that glass but haven’t been tempted to upgrade at this point. I really enjoyed the x-h1 when I got that due to the ibis but it is chunky. I was on the fence about selling all my Fuji gear and replacing it with just an x100v and maybe one of the tcl or wcl adapters but fortunately I suppose you can’t get them unless you want to pay double :). Maybe the next x100 isn’t that far off with a 40mp upgrade.

Great camera, but I'll hold onto my X-T2 & X-H1 for a little while. I have vertical grips for both of them but to be honest I use those quite rare. And autofocus by Fuji is really, really lens dependant. I'd be actually more interested in trying something new for a change (for me), like the X-Pro 3 or 4. Or X100V, but not for that jacked up price...

Yes, I’m still waiting for them to fix the auto focus. At this point I’ll keep my XT4. After a few years of trial and error, I found the best overall results for AF. I don’t see the XT5 being enough of a improvement to spend that kind of money. Will the firmware updates improve the hit rate ?

I think so. The regular tracking AF works great. Subject detection should be fixable through firmware. BUT… never buy a camera based on future firmware promises.
