The VP has to be the person who "delivers" the Electoral College ("EC") - full stop. The EC is the ONLY thing that matters. Both the 2016 & 2020 EC votes were EXTREMELY CLOSE. Folks, we are talking about ~21,500 votes flipping changes the EC winner. Example: In 2020 election it was very close [EC wise]. If ~21,500 votes had flipped in three States (AZ WI GA), the end result would have been a 269-269 tie in the EC. Which would have sent election to House where Repugs controlled 26 State Delegations! It was very, very, very, close. For 2024, losing the EC is losing democracy in the USA.

Biden IMMEDIATELY proved that he could handle things the day after the debate. He really only had a bad EVENING. Public opinion forced him out, but, like so often, public opinion is based on emotion rather than common sense, logic and sharp critical analysis. But, I suppose, this will still work out, even if a slightly less qualified but younger person is all that people seemed to feel was needed. Onward to success!

I was actually relieved for President Biden. The failsafes all let him down and the evidence is a candidate who well shouldn’t have been. The battle would have been too big A normal presidency would have been tough enough. There’s nothing normal about what he tolerated, and yet achieved with mediocre media, justice and congress. The hardest part is who got to stay. And that, I will remember.

I think it was a little more than that - I have seen TV production people go over a side by side - of some of the things that were done to purposely make him appear older, more frail . I was immediately curious because - after the debate there was a little after party / rally and I saw a clip of that - and he looked and sounded completely different. Having said all of that - he still had a very bad performance if you went beyond the visuals - I have heard all about the Gish Galop - I wondered why he didn't just plainfully look at the camera and say - am I the only one that notices that this guy - (Trump) does not answer one of the questions that is asked? The whole thing was a disaster. Never could have predicted it and I was terrified as to how Kamala Harris would be accepted by the voters but as of right now I am so encouraged to at least see that she is being embraced.

without question - no way to quantify it - but it certainly seems as though most presidents that serve 8 years seem to age 15-20 during that time - or at least it looks like it - the two prior - Bush and obama were both seemingly very physically fit - but they certainly aged dramatically from beginning to end

The nursing home business soars in the United States with the elderly being forgotten and lonely as a result this is the most disgusting characteristic that Americans are known for and it makes me sick and embarrassed

Certainly, I am almost 60 I don't know if that is old - I guess it depends who you ask but I have really become aware of the way in which people speak , and infer about aging in the USA - it is honestly horrifying. I can't believe it just started so I have to wonder how common it was before . I was very close with my grandparents and their friends growing up so I have always enjoyed older people and saw great value coming from their long and rich life experience.

Hmm - I guess I do not appreciate how fortunate it is that my sisters and I agree that Trump is a monster. Two sisters had openly identified themselves as republican - they are basically your garden variety fairly affluent suburban moms. Their kids are grown my younger sister is married to a classic intellectual liberal - and so she has always been much more liberal. We grew up in what I would have considered pretty classic mid western - Reagan republican Catholics. I was always the first to say what a danger Trump was - my youngest sister went to the womens march in 2017. They did not really believe how he could sustain the support he has - It will be studied probably for the next century .

But my daughter (50 and a teacher) was always depressing me because she said all the young people kept saying he was too old. Being at the beginning stretch of his 87th year on 20 Jan 2029 is not realistic. Likewise being over halfway through his 83rd year on the same date makes no sense in Trump’s case. Nothing progressing except focus on the aged people running. Let’s hope Kamala Harris transcends this.
