Most criticisms come from ignorance and are easily destroyed by any social sciences academic (economics,...). He published in peer review scientific Journals. His structural approach is in fact standard in forecast theory (in macreconomics e.g., my field) and is opposed to a probability approach based on higher frequency data. (e.g. weekly polls results). I did not read the book or articles but I will. His presentation is scientifically convincing. One observed past error (2000) is not sufficient to reject the approach. I am a democrat and cautiously excited about Kamala Harris winning. I remember sitting in my office bus in India when Prez Obama was elected in 2008 and watching it online during my commute. I was not even an American(with no plans to move here) and was so excited and hopeful. And then in 2016, woke up in my Michigan home to shocking news in early November. Today, I am an American citizen and will vote for Kamala because she is very obviously the right choice. For me it’s extra special to see a woman who shares a bit of my mother tongue and looks like me. To be able to show my daughter a woman who is partly of the same culture as us is extremely significant. However, my question is what next? I hope not another divisive character like the devil who shall not be named. On this auspicious day of the start of Navaratri, I hope Goddess Durga showers her blessings on the Harris-Walz team and we will see them in the WH soon.

This has been the best interview with Lichtman: Couric appears curious, doesn't talk over, asks questions of significance with eloquence and clarity, interrupts effectively, without any force or aggression; she lets this clear thinking, articulate guy inform us about this method of election prediction. Once election predictions are compared with earthquake predictions, we start to believe this method has merits. It obviously cannot be 100% infallible (neither are earthquake predictions), but Lichtman's account of how the method was developed gives us confidence that election-quakes are as accurately predictable as earthquakes.

Great interview with great questions! I had to laugh a bit at Allan Lichtman’s comment about old “white guys” because the definition of “white” continues to change. I am 67 years old and can remember very well when Jews weren’t considered white and southern Italians were barely considered white. In 1970 my Jewish father, a well known and reputable doctor, was unable to get admitted into a country club because he was Jewish. He also had a very hard time getting into medical school in the 1950s because there was a cap on the number of Jews who could be admitted to med school. Jews were not considered white. Period. In the 1940s when my Catholic mother was in high school, the Italians in her neighborhood had to go to a separate Catholic Church from the one she went to. She was also teased by her sister for going to the prom with a “non-white” Italian. In the 1980s, Mario Cuomo was considered too “ethnic” to get elected US President. My point is today’s “minority” is tomorrow’s “white guy.”

Well said. As a Greek-American, there is evidence of Greeks and Italians being harassed and lynched in the south in the latter part of the 19th century. They were not considered white. They were “too brown” from working outdoors. Their respective religions made them suspicious to others.

He is absolutely correct. We did not have a butterfly ballot nor hanging chads in Broward County. I was a Poll Watcher for my precinct in the 2000 election. I saw registered voters denied the right to vote claiming their precinct was somewhere else. It is absolutely against the law to disenfranchise a voter. The voter should have been given an affidavit to sign and been allowed to submit their ballot with their affidavit. If the voter was found not to be a registered voter their sealed ballot would not be counted and the person would be prosecuted for a felony. I pointed it out to the Supervisor of the precinct. She was president of the local Republican club She denied knowing anything about a vote by affidavit. I insisted she call the County Supervisor of Elections Office but she refused. I witnessed over a dozen voters turned away. Later, after our polls closed I drove to another precinct to pick up another poll watcher. She told me 20 voters were turned away at her all black voters precinct. When we spoke with other poll watchers we found the same thing was happening elsewhere. Thousands of registered black voters were removed from the voting lists in Duval County. The County there hired a company to update their voter rolls. It was horrific. The company turned out to be a Texas company where Rick Perry had interests. Hmmmmm.
