For the record, Texas High School Football is sacred, almost a religion. These people will drive from El Paso to Beaumont, the entire length of the State of Texas, east to west (12 hours, nearly 850 miles), to watch their HS home team play in an away game. ESPECIALLY during the State Championship tournament. If that means shutting down the town so people can go, they will do it. The movie Friday Night Lights (2004) and TV series with the same name (2006-2011) portrays the entire culture pretty well. Imagine playing in the stadium in the intro, then eventually make it to the NFL and end up with the disappointment of playing at Northwest Federal Credit Union Stadium, previously known as FedEx Field.

as a fellow Texan, this is real. my 3a Comanche Indians once played in Cherokee stadium in Dallas against gunter and we traveled the 3-hour trip up there to see our boys get shellacked by gunter. that stadium was at like 50% capacity and it holds 48,000. for any non-Texans 3a schools are like towns 2,000 to 7,000 people and we played in an XFL stadium at half capacity of playoffs.

@@RushFanatic87 Our stadium was built quite some time ago when our population was much smaller. It was a gift to the school from the Hobart brothers. And they also gifted the city land for our golf course, our high schools baseball stadium, and Hobart arena. But our stadium is able to uphold the max capacity we have the arena parking lot next to the stadium which allows for 1000s to park for the games, our conference is also pretty competitive. We just had turf installed over the summer and it looks very nice and we added a video scoreboard. Our stadium is the 5th or 6th largest high school stadium for high school use only. Other lists will include college/hs stadiums that are dual purpose. Still pretty cool!

I recommend the Reitz Bowl in Evansville, IN. Located on the west side of Evansville on a hill, this 10,000 seat bowl shaped stadium is the Home stadium to Evansville Reitz and Evansville Mater Dei. The field is a bowl stadium that overlooks downtown Evansville and the Ohio River. Reitz and Mater Dei traditionally end the regular season against one another with the winner getting the West Side Nut Club Golden Acorn trophy.

While not the official stadium, I went to marshall high in Portland before it closed down. Marshall's campus is only a few blocks from walker stadium, the ballpark the pickles use. At the time the pickles didn't exist but the city kept up the stadium. Our high school's baseball field was AWFUL. Felt like you were sliding on concrete and the orientation of the field had every one staring into the sun except for the third baseman, catcher, and batter. As a pitcher it sucked. So, we always just played our games at walker stadium. High school players and their coaches from a public school team jumping the fences to use a city's stadium. No one ever stopped us. Was a pretty sick place to play lol.

Couple things to note here: I work in Allen ISD and I drive by that stadium a ton. It's pretty wild to look at. Allen did win four state championships after the stadium opened, mostly because some kid named Kyler Murray went there and won three in a row. Melissa was kinda getting dunked on in this video for having such a small school population, but when you look at the city geographically and compare that to another city with a stadium on this list, Prosper, whose population has utterly exploded over the past 10 years or so, it's understandable why Melissa built a stadium because their city government anticipated this growth. According to wikipedia, their city's population was only 557 in 1990 and over the course of 30 years has grown to over 15,000. Melissa's city population has even doubled from 2018-2022.

So that stadium has been checked off the list. Gates are locked off at the top next to the school where the ticket booth is and at the bottom of the hill at the opposite end. But during the weekends the locals just climb over them to get in so they could lounge/sunbathe and jog on the track.

It really screwed up the property taxes and they said it took away from the arts budget, which is unfortunate because the arts are important and their band is really good. They just wanted to outdo Allen High’s stadium. If you know Texas high school football, EVERYTHING is a competition including where the game is played. Also, everybody in DFW hates Allen, they literally cheat by paying family’s with kids who are good at football to move to Allen. Also, located just a few short miles from the Berry Center is Legacy Stadium, a 73-million dollar 12,000 seat stadium located bout 100 yards from Rhodes Stadium, ANOTHER KatyISD Stadium, with just under 10,000 seats. (Yes, we have TWO right next to each other).

I saw a news feature on Allen High School. The school district didn't want to divide resources amongst several high schools, so the district just kept adding on to Allen HS. The school enrollment was 5,300 at the time of the report. No wonder everything at that school is huge.

Wonder why their athletic programs are so successful? They pull from one huge pool for one school. Seems unfair to the other schools.

As someone who's lived in the greater DFW area for practically all of my college/adult life, I'd say you pretty well captured the absurdity of HS football around here. It's a religion and literally shuts down entire towns on Friday nights. You should check out my old HS stadium in Jacksonville, TX called the Tomato Bowl. Originally built in the depression of the 1930s by the WPA, it got a big face lift in 2020 which makes for a cool before/after comparison. Growing up it was always considered a shrine of TX HS football, even if it was old and decrepit.

Texas is crawling with these types of facilities. The Waco ISD Stadium is another nice one, though you might say at 24 years old some people might consider it 'outdated' 😂. My son was in the high school band in Tyler when it opened back in 2000, and the football team was a visiting team that played in only the third game ever in the place. Just before halftime the band asked for the help of some parents in moving some of their equipment into place for their halftime performance. I volunteered and upon stepping onto the brand new Field Turf my nose was invaded by its very strong chemical smell. Not sure but I think it is one of those turf types where they work ground up rubber into it to give it a more grass like feel, and that might have been the source of the smell.

3:58 This is slightly outdated, as the OHSAA State Championship games were hosted at the hall of fame stadium in 2024, which, is quite ironic because it is the home field of canton-mckinleny, their biggest, and I mean BIGGEST rival

Children’s Health in Prosper now hosts 3 Prosper ISD High Schools and will soon add a 4th. However, the residents reached their limit when the school board proposed a ridiculous 94 million dollar 8,000 seat overflow stadium (4000 seats less than Children’s Health). That bond was soundly defeated last year. Even Texas has its limits when it comes to football!

A few years ago I was covering high school football for the Austin American-Statesman and got sent to a game at a stadium in Round Rock. The press box was massive and fully catered. I once accompanied a friend of mine to the press box at Ball State University in Indiana and it was pathetic by comparison.

It's crazy how much parking each of these stadiums has... check out the MCG in melbourne australia, 100k capacity and lucky to be 500 car parks. I was at the SCG in Sydney on the weekend, 45k people and again there'd be space for maybe 1000 cars and that's it

I’ve said this before but the UFL teams in TX should play at one of the high school stadiums to give a better appearance of attendance on tv. These stadiums are just as nice as the college stadiums but smaller. They could pack the stadium with fans and make it look like their games are sold out.

I remember playing a football game in middle school where the field literally had a bump around the 30 yard line. Normally this wouldn't be a problem. But when I say bump, I mean a good 10 foot around diameter foothill was just hanging out and they painted over it. It is a miracle no one tripped and got hurt.
