Blake wasn’t the problem, it was Fournette and the entire o-line getting hurt and not having another powerback. He was unfairly benched because of the offensive style that was run to set up the pass. ivory and yeldon were both receiving backs, Tim Cook was the right guy for a powerback but they chose Brandon Wilds, Carlos Hyde and Jamaal Charles, none of whom are the style back we needed. With the offense struggling the defense started going down, also being affected by Posluznys retirement, but mainly due to being on the field for 40 minutes of the game. Cutting Bortles was a big mistake

Pretty accurate summary of life as a Jags fan. I will say cutting Garrard was something that caught a lot of fans off guard. He wasn’t a bad player, but he couldn’t get us to where we needed to be. The problem is Gene Smith went against Del Rio and traded up 10 spots for Blaine Gabbert. It spiraled downward from there. The thing with Leftwich as a player, Del Rio didn’t want him but the general manager that was there before Smith did. So, there was already a divide within the organization then and it hasn’t changed now. The Urban Meyer saga was so nauseating to where ibuprofen proved ineffective. I felt like Tom Grossi when it came to the Aaron Rodgers stuff; I just want to focus on football. But I can’t cause I have to hear something about Meyer. This season was a disaster, but at least we figured out the quarterback position (finally). My team does need a culture change and whether it’s Leftwich or Pederson (my two preferred candidates), it’s the first step towards achieving it. I think Baalke’s gone once we decide on a HC and the O’Brien thing is all smoke. I just hope Shad makes the right hire at HC, something he hasn’t done
@moblinmajorgeneral
@moblinmajorgeneral 2 жыл бұрын
As a fan of a division rival (Titans), let me say that I think that Shad probably won't get you guys much success. On the other hand, his son Tony, who owns AEW, will eventually take over for him, and might make the right moves.
@holdenmcmillen4307
@holdenmcmillen4307 2 жыл бұрын
@@moblinmajorgeneral Shad may not have made some good decisions when it comes to improving the football team, but you can’t blame the man for trying. He tried hiring a high rising defensive assistant (Gus Bradley) and it failed, promoting in house (Doug Marrone & Trent Baalke (tbd)) it didn’t work, and having a splashy hire (Urban Meyer) and it blew up spectacularly. While these moves haven’t worked, you can’t blame the man for trying. Plus, he’s doing good work in the community and helping to keep the team in Jacksonville with a 4 season hotel near the stadium on the dock, preservation efforts for Metropolitan Park, a new football facility, and a renovated stadium. What he does need is a football advisor, someone who can help him make better decisions

I know this is gonna seem like nitpicking and definitely wasn't the overall point of your comment, but ibuprofen is never really effective for nausea. It's used for pain, inflammation, fever, swelling but not really nausea, in fact it can cause nausea because it can irritate the stomach.

As a 49ers fan, I agree on Baalke. The Jags will always have problems as long as they keep him around. Even when the Niners were winning, there was drama behind the scenes, power struggles, front office leaks, etc. He also got a little too much credit for building that team, considering many of those players were drafted under his predecessor. It's not surprising this kind of drama is happening with the Jaguars as well.

The great organizations have their ebb and flow, but they're consistent contenders, and their down years are typically due to injuries. The bad organizations only have an fluke good season every once in a while. The Jags are horribly mismanaged, and their fans deserve so much better...their 2017 season was a fluke. They used to be one of the great organizations...they never put it *all* together, but they were perennial contenders and always a favorite to win their division (even when they were in the AFC Central with fellow great organizations Pittsburgh and Baltimore, as well as the Titans who were also REALLY good in that span). @Fries The Bengals made it to the Super Bowl following a 4-win season, trailed by 8, 9, 3, 5, 3, and 3 win seasons (that also came with the passing of Paul Brown, and his incompetent boob of a son Mike taking complete control and firing Sam Wyche and replacing Boomer with...ugh...Dave Klingler). Not quite as drastic, but the Bengals went from dangerously volatile to laughing stock in the span of 4 seasons, and then sucked ass for another dozen seasons). You could probably do similar with the 70s and 80s Colts and Packers (the Colts being such an incompetent organization in that timeframe that John Elway was going to play third base for the Yankees instead of playing for the Colts if they drafted him and didn't trade him).

WOW! You glossed over the long term reasons why the team became so bad and spent half the video talking about 2021 (Urban Meyer and Trent Baalke). The true beginning of the Jaguars down slide begins with the final four years of the Weavers owning the team. Wayne Weaver was asset rich, but cash poor. He was cutting the operating budget of the team every year during his final years of ownership, cutting front office staff and reducing the money available for premier coaching staff. This is one of the main reasons he sold the team. Shad Khan is a Billionaire compared to Weaver being a Millionaire and had the assets to make the changes needed. During the purchase, he made his first mistake by following Weavers strong encouragement to keep Gene Smith. Smiths coach of choice was Mularkey and that combination proved disastrous as the 2-14 season showed. Khans next mistake was hiring Caldwell. Caldwells choice of Gus Bradley looked good on paper but proved to be another complete mistake with the team never winning more than 5 games in a season under him. This mistake was compounded by hiring interim coach Marrone as the fifth HC. Khan had the right idea of bringing in a knowledgeable football guy to lead the team and brought back Tom Coughlin. This worked for the first year of the experiment with the Jags getting their sole winning season under Khans ownership and almost making it to the Super Bowl. TCs abrasive style backfired in 2018. The contract extension to Bortles and not paying star defensive players caused the team to implode. This cascaded to the point we have in 2021 with the hiring of Urban Meyer and the abysmal season . Khan should go and hire a true knowledgeable football guy who also has the ability to navigate todays NFL, but it looks like he is making his next mistake by retaining Baalke.

The Falcons, Bucs, and Saints are among the worst teams ever in any American major pro sport, and the Panthers, while not old enough to be *historically* bad, have only had a couple of good seasons in their almost 30 years of existence. And uh...the fact that the Saints, Falcons, and Rams (who also kinda sucked in the 80s...actually, only the Bears, 49ers, Giants, Cowboys, and [Football Team] were actually any good in the NFC that decade) were in the 49ers' division for their dynasty makes the Pats vs. 49ers "THE AFC EAST IS A JOKE!!!" when the 49ers had two non-entities in their division.

@Kylie McInes Appreciate you bringing that up. I’m SO tired of that narrative that the AFC East was responsible for the patriots. My Dolphins have beaten Shady more than any other team in the NFL and the Jets usually fought pretty hard despite being severely less talented. Buffalo deserves every ounce of blame it gets though as their record is just abysmal against him. Fact of the matter is, his win % is higher against the rest of the NFL than the AFC East. Such a stupid narrative.

Thank you for finally calling out Meyer for what he is: A sociopath. Dude ran a program in Florida that saw 36 kids get arrested, left for "health reasons" when winning got harder. He covered up for an assistant who was abusing his wife in Ohio State, and didn't seem to understand why he got suspended for it. Then, well, you ran the full list of the last 12 months. Guy has no sense of right and wrong, accountability or consequences. But, the worst part is: He'll get another college job, guaranteed. After all: Bobby Petrino got hired in Louisville again. The states only wanted the court to say it was a peninsula so the states control the waters rather than the federal gov. Yes, the East River is a tidal strait but you have to look at how Long Island was formed and compare it to Manhattan. Much of Manhattan consists of exposed bedrock hundreds of millions of years old, while Long Island is mostly *loose sand* and didn’t exist as a distinct entity until it was built up by bulldozing ice sheets around 150,000 years ago. The frustrating thing for their fans I'd say is when you look at teams like how the Jaguars are win percentage wise, you think okay. The team doesn't pay their players, or open the pocket book in free agency. Maybe they dont take care of the facilities to the point people can get infections. Fight over language in rookie contracts despite standards being set. They get in the way of the coach and dont let them coach, or hover over GM decisions and force them to draft players they might not even find are worth that draft slot. All of these are issues I see continually with some of the worst teams in the league over last couple decades. And Jacksonville appears to not be that team. In fact their owner seems highly dedicated to bringing a winning product there, lets the GM/Coach typically (this year notwithstanding as the firing of Meyer felt necessary) work things out. He's spent the money to give the players the best they need it appears. He really feels like he's probably an owner you actually can agree with as a fan/player. But the results aren't there and thats gotta be frustrating for everyone involved. Because when you looked at other teams that have been inconsistent over last 2 decades and/or even struggle to compete much of timeframe they contain many of the aformentioned issues that the Jaguars tend to lack.

On top of that he made the playoffs 4 times and once each with Brian Hoyer and Brock Osweiler at QB. Bill is a good HC with playoff potential he just needs to keep out of the GM game. Let's not forget Khan also owns Fulham FC as well. When the Jaguars suck and lose a ton of games they get rewarded with a high draft pick. When a team in the Premier League is terrible and loses they get fucking relegated to the second tier of English football. Fulham is no tiny club either. They're a London based team with a decent cadre of supporters. Some of the greatest American players in soccer history played there. McBride and Dempsey are folk heroes at Fulham. That team is mismanaged as well. The previous owner put up a fucking Michael Jackson statue outside Craven Cottage and the fans nearly lost it. Now the team just manages to yo-yo back and forth between the Premier League and EFL Championship. Association football isn't like the American sports. You can't draft your next star player. You either develop them at your academy or buy from another team. Fulham isn't doing either anytime soon.
