They have to go all the way to Irkutsk to get a gig. That's how unpopular this type of fusion is. LOL. But seriously , it doesn't matter how fast you can play and the chops you have on your instrument. You still need compositional chops too. This music doesn't do anything for me. I listened to a bunch of his stuff and there is no feel. no groove, no vibe, no pocket no melody, no interesting chord changes, nothing memorable about it. I don't see the point.
@premium3429 Жыл бұрын
Completely agree!! As a player, technician he's a monster, but as a composer? It's uninspiring music.

Its fine not to like it. Not seeing the point sometimes is the point. Music is relative and personal... you wont connect with every piece of music but when you do, thats what makes it special :) This one in particular was my first time hearing an Am to a G# Lydian to C# Lydian in a 5/4 time sig mind u... that in my book is an interesting composition but i get that thats not for everyone Also their recent duckling US tour was sold out :)

Guthrie is a great rock guitarist. However, he is trying to play fusion and he lacks the improvisational skills for it. He is mostly shredding, no harmonic exploration and no rhythm (in context of phrasing). Improvising has nothing to do with what he is doing.
