I own four of these. We’ve been using them religiously for the past three months. Recently they’ve been not sinking the nails. We are using them the same way we always have and are using the same nails.

Interesting that all 4 are acting up at the same time. Could it be somehow related to where they are stored, moisture or something? I had a tool years ago that didn't operate full power and I cleaned the contacts and it fixed the problem. In this nailers manual it does state 'If the tool does not start or operate at full power with a fully charged battery pack, clean the contacts on the battery pack.' Not sure if that will help but worth a try. Assuming you have multiple batteries as well so I doubt all 4 batteries would fail at the same time as well.

Milwaukee makes use of a pressurized air piston in their nailers. They work great until the air slowly leaks out and then they lose power. Inside the gun is a schraeder valve with female 1/8" BSP threads

I'm having the same problem with sinking nails in MDF. It just won't sink a 2 inch nail and it feels weaker in general after maybe 20-25k nails.

I just used air to recharge mine. I took the entire gun apart to troubleshoot. Took me 3 nights to figure it out. Surprised I got it all back together and working again. There's a hex bolt in the bottom of the air tank you unscrew. From there I used an air gun with the needle you use to blow up basketballs/soccer balls. There's a tiny one way valve under the screw you take out that I place the air gun on and push until the valve opens. I then shot air in it for a few seconds. Apparently it was enough air to recharge it. I also used a small rubber piece to seal the air as I injected air into the tank. I'll make a video if it happens again. At this point, I don't feel like dismantling the gun again for the 12th time.

I've gotten a few jams over my lastest project, then tonight one catastrophic jam. I thought I'd have to get warranty repair, but I was finally able to get the bent nail out after disassembling the nail feeder. And you guessed it... DEWALT nails! $#%$@#!

Great video. My dad just bought a new milwaukee nail gun. He has Dewalt nails. On the 10th nail, it jammed and the nail went through the plastic and broke the gun

Return that gun to the store and get replacement and use Metabo or Porter Cable nails going forward and you will be happy. Im sure Milwaukee gets these returned all the time because of this Dewalt nail jamming up the tool. Glad I was able to help.

Yeah makes you wonder what is wrong with the Dewalt nails. My brothers Dewalt nailer doesn't even like those Dewalt nails as they jam in that tool as well.

I just recently came to the same concllusion on the nails being the reason for the jams, bit I think it's the glue used to hold the nails together. I am jaming using the Hitachi nails (1 in 5 nails at best). The difference is they are very old. At least several years and have been in a hot/cold garage, year after year. Going to try some new ones to see if this persists, but agree, it's the nails.

Yea you may be right, the glue holding the nails together could be causing the problem.

I use those in my Milwaukee brad nailer 2nd gen and I have not had any issues with those nails. thousands of those nails used. I am very surprised you're experiencing that. I have just wasted about 75 of them to see if it will jam lol nope still coming out with no problem ...I buy boxes of those weakly at Home Depot and have never any issue

Interesting your able to use those nails in your gun without problems. The box I have is probably 3-4 years old and was initially purchased for my pneumatic Dewalt 18-gauge gun. Not sure if that has something to do with it or not. Thanks for watching.

Canada here. Porter Cable nails almost never jam for me. Hitachi nails were a nightmare jamming every 10 nails. Dewalt jam every 300-400.

The Brand of nails definitely makes a difference. With that being said I don’t trust it to not ruin something valuable it still jams consistently. Brads that work ok I’ve found are Porter Cable and Grip Rite from HD. Nails that don’t work Bostich, Grip Fast, Dewalt, Senco. Maybe Milwaukee should come out with a nail that shoots consistently. Only Milwaukee tool I own that I wish I didn’t need. Don’t want to switch brands. Also depth gauge setting doesn’t work right either. Hope they come up with a real solution other than brands of nails.

I just unboxed and tried a few shots and it is consistently leaving a 1-1/2” brad nail out by 1/2”. Changed to 3/4” and left it proud a little more than 1/4” above the wood surface. Any suggestions?

I would make sure the depth dial screw is threaded into the depth adjustment dial. As you rotate, you should see the screw moving to either increase or decrease depth. If it doesn't move it may be stripped out or defective.

Thanks for the tips! If you can only buy one nailer, which would you buy? 18 gauge brad nailer? 16 gauge finish nailer or 15 gauge finish nailer? Mostly doing baseboards, door and window frame trims, wood fencing, etc.

They all have their place depending on what you're trying to do, however if picking 1 I would probably go with the 18-gauge brad nailer. Baseboards and door/window trim would definitely be best suited with 18 gauge. For wood fencing, you would probably want larger nail. Hope this helps.

I agree i get more use from the 18ga nailer, i also have the 15ga and love it as well for anything that may require a larger fastener for more holding power than what you’d get out of the 18ga. & there’s applications where the 15ga would just be hella overkill. Never had or used the 16ga or the pin nailer. Interested in both though. I did have the 30° framing nailer but returned it asap… I’m open to purchasing it again in the future but only if i also have the extended clip for it because that gun drove me crazy, every time i blinked i had to reload the damn thing. Everything else about it was solid though, so much power

Would you know why the low battery led is turned on yet the battery is completely charged?

Assuming you're talking about the battery indicator on the gun? If so, I would first confirm the battery works on any other tool. If it does, then the next thing I would try is to clean the contacts on the gun and battery. If battery is full but the tool isn't getting power, it could be something as simple as the contacts. If that doesn't work and assuming the gun wont fire (if it still works, I would ignore the light), reach out to Milwaukee and if you're under the 5-year warranty I'm sure they would replace. Hope this helps.

Maybe try some different nails to see if it helps as there could be the rare defect in the nails. If not, you may have a defective gun as I'm not aware of anyone have problems with the porter cable nails.

The issue that I’m having right now is i just noticed the depth adjustment knob for mine is jammed. It’s not turning up or down. & when i shoot a nail, it’s only going into the wood about halfway lol currently unusable. I put buku mileage on it, love it, but need to figure out how to get it back into action though….

I haven't experienced any issues with my depth adjustment knob jamming. If you're within the 5-year window for the warranty, I would suggest taking to an authorized dealer as they are good about repairing/replacing if defective.

@@TeamDIYNow most definitely. This is actually my second nailer, same brand and model. The issue that i had for the previous one was about right under a year in it took a nasty fall and landed right around the clip area. It must’ve landed on something, anyway the clip on these things is just plastic so once that cracked, the clip no longer closed properly. Brought it in and they swapped it out for a fresh one 🤷‍♂️ i think cardholders get 12 months for returns on most items.

@@1joshua Thats good to hear they swapped the first one after it was damaged. I have dropped mine a few times but was lucky it didn't damage anything. If they could only make these battery nailers the same size as the pneumatic ones!

my issue is with 2" nails ...they don't fire...they are the porter cable ones. anything 1.5" or less, so far, is fine. but nothing with 2"

You may have an issue with your gun if you can't fire any 2" nails. I mainly use 2" nails in mine all the time while using Porter Cable or Metabo.

I'm having a hard time with this nailer. Mine jams with Metabo nails, Senco nails, and Porter cable nails. It jams constantly. I think there's some other issues going on here that aren't happening in every gun. Anyone know what Milwaukee's warrenty support on these guns is like? Will they fix this or replace it? I've never tried a warrenty claim on a powertool before.

You can either go to the website and fill out the forms but if you have a Milwaukee certified repair shop in your town/city you can just stop by there and explain what’s going on and they will either give u a brand new one or fix yours for you

In the manual they don't mention any specific brads outside of use the right gauge for your specific gun. They do have a section where they say 'Most jams are caused by a fastener or part of a fastener wedged between the driver blade and nail guide. Fasterner strips with an incorrect collation angle or the wrong fastener gauge may cause continuous jamming.' My guess is that there is something specific with these Dewalt brads in the head of the brad that these guns don't like.

had 3 so far....every single one has that horrible ass battery rattle...seriously milwalkee? unacceptable for a 300 dollar, top notch trim gun...ive got 10 year old makita stuff thats been heavily abused, dropped ran o ver you name it....batteries are still like glued on when you snap em in.....

I know what you mean, the batteries do seem to fit a little sloppy on this 18-gauge nailer. However, I haven't experienced any performance impact.

Plus a rattling battery increases tool vibration. That increases fatigue in a repetitive impact tool like a nailer.
