I would definitely use the custom aluminum lego/technic bricks like that to be sure it wouldn’t explode

I'd bet money that the plastic ones would handle the forces better. Just because of the plasticity. Not certain though, but would be fun to test!

I've broken pedals, forks, axles, cranks, a frame, bars, a stem, a saddle, a few rear mechs, many chains... you know what I've never broken? A spoke in the middle.

the icing is that its not how spokes work I mean the two ends he created are not going to pull apart as the bike goes (so the lego piece pulling them back together) but they will push against each other so the legopiece is useless... the only reason nothing happened is because there are all the other spokes in the wheel that hold his weight and so that broken one doesnt matter (or in other words its ends dont push that much against each other cause the other spokes prevent that)

You can safely ride with one spoke missing. Just make sure the broken spoke doesn't pierce the tire.

Never had a spoke broken in that place. They mostly brake on the bolt, on the edge of the rim were the spoke begins.

Who would be concerned about replacing a single spoke anyways? Not to mention this fix does not work the way he thinks it does. This does not fix weight distribution because the Lego brick will never be strong enough the way it is installed!

I've been riding for 40yrs and have only snapped a spoke once. I continued riding on the same wheel for about 2 months until i finally replaced it. Moral of the story is a piece of shitty plastic won't make any difference.

If a spoke breaks right in the middle, you best believe you won’t be bending the ends into a tight J. Also, for those saying they never break in the middle, they definitely can. I have a Specialized mountain bike I use to run my dogs in winter and it broke two front spokes right in the middle. I suspect it had to do with the road salt or temperature changes… or both.

Not only is it exceedingly rare for a spoke to break anywhere other than near the ends of the spoke, but any bike be will still be able to ride just fine with a a broken spoke or two. So where did you get your idea from?

Usually they don't break from the middle . The spokes at most times snaps on either side ( nipple side or the hub side)

​@@outsidebrendan Really? I would have guessed that the stud portion of the spoke would be the weak point. If tension is applied to the spoke in any direction perpendicular to itself, the stress-point of said spoke would be where it meets the barrel of the wheel or the hub, at the threads, not the center of the spoke shaft.

Breaks at threads at the nipple often as well. Old nipples sometimes snap straight off as well. My 12yrold DJ had a nipple snapping every ride lol

It will work just as good with one spoke less. Just take out the loose part or wind it around a nearby spoke.

Be careful when tensioning because the end of the spoke could cause a protrusion into the inner tube.

Even if you were by some miracle able to break a spoke like that, spoked wheels are designed to keep working without 1 or 2 spokes. You can still ride the bike as opposed to wasting an hour of your life lacing toys into your wheel. This is absolutely useless.

Carry a bundle of bailing wire instead. It'll work better to hold the spokes together, and it can be used for 100 other things too

If you break 1 spoke it's not to big of a worry along as you make it so it doesn't get stuck in the chain or get caught on something I rode around with 3 broken spokes for a month waiting to get it repaired and the guy said for breaking 3 spoke the wheel needed nearly no adjustments

This is exactly why I carry a pocket full of legos around at all time, even in my 40s, because you never know when you might need them.

spokes usually dont break in the middle. They brake right at the ends
