Just bought one of these to replace another brand i had worn out over 7 years. Its better than my previous, and in reviews seems better than most others. But the real secret with push mowers is....never buy new, there are heaps of them being sold hardly used by people with "good intentions" :)

Wise words, I've picked up a few second hand that weren't working well for peanuts, and with a quick service they are as good as new

I’ve had one of these in weekly use for over 12 years. A bit of grease, some backlapping once or twice a season and it purrs along. Imagine how much bother and petrol and gym fees I’ve saved over the years.

Thanks for this video. I believe the reason a reel mower, like the Flymo H40 and others, outperform the rotary mowers is because it 'cleanly cuts' the grass like a pair of sharp scissors would cut a paper strip whereby the rotary mower 'slashes' the grass leaving a more ragged edge to the grass blade. Also, when I use my Flymo H33 reel mower, I don't use a catcher and it returns the fine cuttings to the lawn as a compost. This leads to a thicker, lusher lawn. The secret is to mow often and have the blade height adjusted to the highest setting.

Super helpful! Our electric mower broke and we found one of these on the side of the road. I pulled it apart and couldn't figure out how to make it spin, it was so stiff even with wd40 but that bit at the end about putting it in the side with the wheel off got the wd40 where it needed to go. Thanks!

That's great to hear, glad you got it working in the end!

I thought my old flymo was as gonner after [at least] ten years of neglect. Took longer to find one of the split pins which went walkabout than take the wheels off, clean out years of gunk, lube, re-fit & adjust. None of the plastic parts looked to have any wear and she spins like a top again, cutting beautifully. Happy

At 8:00 is a chart with part numbers for replacement parts (mower shop should be able to order them). Please see video description for details, including how to get that break-out chart. Also, I forgot to make it clear at the start that yes, my mower was suffering the usual issues and even just after cleaning all of the internals, lubricating them as shown in the video, it was working again. After the video I was able to mow my lawn with it.

I lost the pin to hold the wheel down to the washer, anywhere sell spares?
@tompaton50503 жыл бұрын
@@thrivefinancialservices4384 I think a cotter pin shouldn't be too hard to find from just about any hardware shop. Take the pin in off the other wheel and see what you can find!

Thanks for this great video, Tom. Would a light machine oil like you use on sewing machines, hair clippers etc. do the job, or would you recommend something heavier?
@tompaton50503 жыл бұрын
I'm sure that would be fine, especially if you are regularly cleaning the mower and keeping everything lubed

Hi Tom thanks for the video. When you rotate the wheels independently should the cylinder turn when you turn both the right wheel and left wheel? on my Bosch it does but on my flymo the side with the black cog is the only wheel that turns the cylinder.
@tompaton50505 ай бұрын
Apologies for the late reply. Yes, both wheels should drive the cylinder
@paxilkumar7287 Жыл бұрын
I picked up the flymo h40 second hand but it is hard to push it forward as the wheels don’t rotate.
@tompaton50505 ай бұрын
First adjust the blades via the butterfly nuts to make sure they aren't too tight. Second, take the wheels off, and the black and white cogs, and try to get some oil down that shaft that the cylinder spins on. Clean that shaft too, make sure no grass or fibres are bound up on it

I hope your mower is working well. Is it possible to back lap this mower to get the blade sharper?
@tompaton50503 жыл бұрын
Not sure about that Daniel, but I don't see why not. It is meant to be self sharpening though

where can I buy spares , Im in Australia
@tompaton50503 жыл бұрын
In the description there's a PDF link, or look at 8:00 in the video. Take those part numbers to any independent mower shop in Australia (cheap) or Bunnings special orders desk (expensive)
@keithblakely63303 жыл бұрын
Only suggestion would be to put the mowers in the sun, would be easier to see
@manonymous47373 жыл бұрын
I think its 80 bucks for one wheel though!
@tompaton50505 ай бұрын
There can be big price differences between Bunnings and the smaller shops. When I lived in Melbourne, True Fix Mower Repairs were 1/4 the price of Bunnings for spares. I'd also look out for spare mowers for parts, these things turn up at garage sales and on nature strips a lot these days. Often in sorry condition but good for parts, or fixable
