Thanks so much, I cleared the drain last week on the machine that came with the house and there was enough change for a down payment on a pump. haha Two fists full of change I pried out so I thought for sure that would fix it sadly it did not. I was able to order a new pump on amazon for about $25 and replace it by watching your video. The harded part was getting the hose clamps back on but I figured it out fairly easy. I just washed a load of clothes with no problems. This grandma could do it, so there's hope for all of us. YAY!!!!!!!

For several years our machine has been blinking F21. We would open the drain and empty it, but now F33 had us stumped. Of all the KZbin videos about fixing the pump problem yours was the first that gave us helpful information to diagnose the problem. The impeller was indeed loose, so now we are confident that replacing the drain pump is correct action to take. After confirming the part number for our model at Sears parts direct ($98), we ordered the part from Amazon for $39. Thanks so much for your kind, helpful video! :)

Nice Tutorial. I love KZbin and peoples willingness to share. I had F21 error. Removed bottom cover, found some foreign material in filter but after re-assembling still wound not drain. After manually draining water and starting again I removed the pump. I tried to move the impeller and found it stuck then all of a sudden a small metal object came out. Looks like some small other object got stuck in the washer and stuck the impeller. After shaking this out I re-installed the pump and tried again. Washer is working fine now. Saved me a bunch of dough, so thanks again!

This video just saved us quite a bit of $. Thank you! Our local Appliance Parts Store had this part in stock. 60$ out the door. Hubby installed, it leaked a smidge, he tightened it up. VOILA!! She is up and running! Also, the door was locked and remained locked until this was installed.

We did this several times and it would work a few times then go right back to F21. My husband checked the impeller and it felt fine. Since it is still doing it I ordered a new pump and will switch it out once it comes in. FYI, I found one on Amazon for 46.00 so really great deal!

I had a F-21 code problem and it is now fixed! Thank you for the video as it did help guide me. Great video... I was also getting the F-21 error, but when I checked the impeller I found that it was solidly attached and the pump transformer continuity measured as 12.3 ohms, which is correct. I took the filter off (ensuring the water was drained first... my method was using a shop vac :) , turned the washer on to get some water in the drum, reset the cycle to drain/spin and waited for the pump to engage... which took less than a minute on this setting.

Thank you so much for this video...extremely helpful and after it took forever to get the bolts off, I was able to clean out the drain. I did have to do it several times and eventually found the fan attached to the motor was blocked by a rubberband. After eventually correcting this, the duet started draining again. I appreciate finding videos like this so I can maintain my own home, without having to hire another repairman. Smiles :)

Just a suggestion ... also check the hose (the one with the ball) to see if something is stuck there. That happened to me. I replaced the drain pump, the switch, checked filter and hoses and finally since nothing worked I checked the hose that connects the tub/drum to the drain pump and something was stuck there and it couldn't pass the hose with the ball and it was always giving a SUD error followed by an F21 error. After I removed the unwanted item the next try gave again a SUD error but after it clears the errors and it works fine. Good luck
@rvalens2
@rvalens2 Жыл бұрын
I know it's been a few years since you posted this answer. But I'm going to give your suggestion a try. At this point in time, I have tested the drain pump motor. And it is fine. It tested at 12.3 ohms (which is correct) and the impeller spins as it should with no side-to-side wobble and no grinding noises. I can even hear it running smoothly during the drain cycle only to stop when the F-21 error rears its ugly head. And though cleaning the filter/trap and/or replacing the motor fixes this problem for most - for me it hasn't. I also checked the hose that leads away from the pump to my drain. And it too is clear and open. I am 99% certain the problem is as you have described - something is stuck right at the point where the hose connects to the main tank - likely at the stop ball. I have found out that it's actually called an Eco ball. And it's designed to float as the machine starts filling, thereby isolating the old drain water - still in the hose and pump - from the clean water in the wash tank. That blockage is likely causing a "fluid-lock" that creates so much back pressure, it keeps the pump from draining the water. I did clean the filter/trap and the lower portion of the hose. But I did not think to remove it and check the upper portion. Thanks for the tip! I'm pretty certain that's my problem. 🤓😎🤠

@@rvalens2 I still remember it was a real pain. It took me a week to find something made of foam that made it thru and ended up there. I was getting ready to buy a new one and thank God it is still working fine after all these years. I probably still have the photos I took as I was working on it because normally I have parts left or hoses not connected 😀

Here is what I would add. I watched this video and it was VERY helpful. I emptied the trap on my washer, which after 7 years raising three kids was full of legos, change and various plastic junk. FULL! While my washer wasn't draining, I WAS feeling the pump heat up and heard it running. After I ordered a replacement pump, I took a close look at the pump. No damage, and the impeller had resistance, which really stumped me. Why wasn't the washer emptying? I finally noticed the safety switch on the front panel. Perhaps the safety switch had prevented normal operation while I was diagnosing the pump? I taped it closed. While running a diagnostic, AGAIN the pump starts up and runs and gets warm, but no pumping.. TRAPPED AIR! I grasped the big hose between the drum and the pump and squeezed and the water immediately began to drain. The tub was empty in a few seconds and the washer worked perfectly again. Don't forget the dreaded AIR LOCK! GREAT video, saved me some serious $$!
@jennifersandrowski3047
@jennifersandrowski3047 8 жыл бұрын
where exactly is this safety switch, and can you elaborate on the Air Lock?
@ttcole1254
@ttcole1254 8 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Sandrowski Figured I'd answer since I know what they're talking about. There is a metal push switch near the bottom right of the washer, the service panel pushes against it when it's in place and closes the switch. However I haven't found any response from it being open or closed when in normal operation. The washer is aware that the service panel has been removed though. And regarding the air lock, theres a short tube that connects from the bottom of the wash tub to behind the filter as shown in the video. The tube isn't visible. I guess it can get an air bubble in it which can potentially cause the pump to not function even though the impeller isn't stuck, the pump is in working order and the drain line isn't clogged anywhere. I've never experienced an air lock though.

The 1st time it happened, about half a year ago, i cleaned it up....and it worked (had coins, golf ball marker, etc). It happened again three days ago. I cleaned it up again (had more coins ect). I fired it up, and F21 showed up again. Hmm....there was nothing on the trap anymore. I did it three times, and everything i restarted it, it gave me F21 during the draining process. The motor was working, but making this sound like it was dying. I stuck my finger into the blade hole and i felt something rubbery. Took out the motor, like you suggested, and found this long hair tie (wife's). I took it out. However, on the shaft housing (right below be coils), it is black and filled with water. (you can see it is black on your old one, and white/clean on your new one). I decided to take it apart, and my goodness....it was all the gunk and smelly stuff. I decided to clean it out as well (I actually just did it about 25 mins ago - machine is currently running - so we will see). but anyways, just ant to say THANKS for your video.....it saved me some $$$$ because i was thinking of buying a new one.

I replaced the pump and motor and was still getting the F33 error code. I took off the top lid of the washer, there are three screws in the back, and next to the start button is the CCU. I unplugged all the circuits and replugged them back and and made sure there was no corrosion on the plugs. This reset the CCU and now it works fine.

Terrific, thank you. Actually the pump motor runs and the impeller spins freely when there is no load on it; i.e. no water in the pump or line. When there's water though it makes a binding noise then stops and kinda hums. Impeller can be rotated easily with your finger. Water flows freely from drum into the filter and the line from the pump to the drain is clear. So apparently the motor may need replacing without completely failing? Going to replace motor assembly today in any event and will advise outcome.

Without the filter in, I was able to stick my finger in the hole and push the impeller around... after a few turns, something that was stuck inside it came loose and the impeller began to spin on its own! :) HOORAY! So, to summarize, F-21 error occurred, but pump impeller was not broken, and the pump transformer measured out as good, just something from the filter found its way into the pump... once I knocked it loose, everything was back to normal.

I have cleared the lint trap and the pump works fine (Replaced last year) The pipes are clear and it drains until the final cycle where it doesnt and leaves water in the drum and gives f21. So its not the pump what could it be,? pressure switch? I unplugged and re plugged the wire connectors in CCU, all looked good, no change. Any ideas. Thanks

Great job. Very simple. One other issue is an F33 doesn't necessarily mean the motor is toast. Mine had a woman's hair tie....LOL. Yep. Got it out and works perfectly. The other duh moment was not knowing the motor is behind the front panel. Dumb luck guess and found a manual online.

Paul Feng You should be getting an error code and it's weird that you're not. Can you get it to spin when you put it on drain/spin with an empty washer? If the drum is turning (slowly) but you don't hear the drain pump going then it's probably the pump. If the whole machine just cuts out and doesn't do ANYTHING it might be something else. I'd hate to tell you it's the pump, you go on amazon and get one for

+Michelle Pilcher No, see if you can wash it out. Also, see if you can't rinse your drain lines to make sure it's not clogged. It's probably just rotting softener.

+James Poag Its just sludge from my hubby's filthy work clothes...I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some kind of lubricant for the impeller or something. Thank you so much!

W10130913 For the machine in the video. You should also be able to get a parts list from your washer model on the partsdr.com site.

On other model it looks like the motor can be replaced by itself and not the whole assembly.....is this the case with this one?
@JamesPoag

I didn't find the motor sold separately, but it does seem like it's possible to remove the motor from the assembly. Make sure the seal is good if you replace only the motor.

My washer wouldn't drain i removed the pump and there was small sock stuck in the impeller , Put it back together it solved the problem but now I have a small drip coming from in between the pump and the assembly. I tried taking off and back on a couple times appears to be seated correctly all around but doesn't have that tight feel it originally and still drips. Any ideas?

***** One of the hoses is leaking? Or do you mean you separated the pump (gray) from the housing (white)? I haven't tried separating them, but if it's not as tight as it should be you might want to silicone caulk the joint when you put it back together. Be sure to let it cure.

I tried a few more times and finally got, the o-ring wasn't seating correctly after twisting the pump into the locked position.

I have an Amana 7300 that doesn't have a error code but gives a series of beeps when it goes into fault. 4 beeps to be exact. but washer won't drain. I ha e taken it apart and motor and impeller is fine no wobble and magnets are strong when I spin it by hand. the problem is it will not push water out of basket. it seems to cavitate inside basket area then go into fault

+Tom Christensen Check to make sure that the drain lines are clear, flush them with hose. Put an Ohm meter on pin 1 and 2 of the drain motor and look for resistance (maybe 12.3 ohms). If Zero or One then your motor is bad.

+James Poag Although if you hear the motor spinning, it's probably a clogged line.

replaced or removed ccu? try unplugging for 30 minutes. I know it sounds weird, but my washer would do something similar when the power flashed.

I just don't know what to think... When I put my finger into the hole, the spindle-thing (impeller??) is able to be turned easily. When I did the Diagnostics test, I got the C:00... the door locked, water went into the drum & then the test immediately went to the F-35 error code again. Although, at some point with all of my attempts at doing a Clean Washer cycle, & Normal cycle.. I ended up with a F-21. There is never anything in my drain filter when I check. I have Whirlpool Duet Steam WFW9600TA01. I really can't afford to attempt replacing one part after another... Any thoughts? Please & Thank you :-)

F35 is a pressure sensor problem. Try running a gallon of white vinegar in the detergent slot on the 'clean washer' cycle. If that doesn't work, I would suggest contact cleaner on the pressure sensor. Are you getting F21 even though the water has drained from the machine?
@JamesPoag

kzbin.info/www/bejne/epvIc3ykaZebr9U Try cleaning the APS (analog pressure switch) with contact cleaner it the vinegar doesn't work. Also, it the drain pump runs too long empty, it will throw F21 error.

Hello James! I've poured vinegar & water 1:3 in the detergent tray & tub, many times; to no avail. The water seems to drain from the tub completely... But I did get a F21. I've have spent countless hours over the last 4 days trying one thing then another. So I couldn't tell you exactly at what setting, or sequence of events I got the F21. I started leaning towards the pump problem (& away from the APS), because I was able to move the spindle-thing that is outside the pump, & believed (based on some video I watched) that it should not move, & the F21 error. If it's OK for that to move... Then maybe I should go back to considering the APS. Where would I purchase some contact cleaner? Do you know? Thank you so very much! Cecelia

I don't know if Radio Shack still sells it, maybe an auto part store. I definitely recommend against randomly buying parts to fix and to try as much as possible. There's a few videos to watch on F35.
