Thanks for this video! I just attempted my first solar Timelapse using IMPPG and Photoshop, and I didn’t even consider the field rotation using the Solarquest mount.😂 I’m going to try Davinchi tomorrow and see if I can salvage my Timelapse. Thanks for making this video!

Very nice tutorial, thank you! I have the Solarquest as well and was looking for a software that could deal with the field rotation. I have a question though. In your video you can see how the Sun rotates but the active region is the anchor (which makes sense, since you chose that region for your stabilization). For my full disk timelapses, I therefore choose the limb of the Sun with a generous space outside to catch the prominences as the anchor points, such that it stabilizes onto the rim itself. However I only ever made rather short timelapses and I fear that within a multiple hour long timelapse the Sun might rotate too much for Davinci to find anchor points that fit the whole video. What's your approach to this?

Sorry for the very late response, have you had the chance to test this yourself? I personally haven't tried setting anchor points on the limb.

When using the Solar quest does it need recentering the image or will it keep it centred for a long time. Good video that will go through several times and stop and follow along.

Ideally it should stay centered, I have had 7~ hour long continous tracking on completely clear days, even with a very narrow field of view

I used mine for the first time this week and it needed to be slightly recentered every 15-30 minutes. This was with a Lunt 40 and Asi290mm, so it wasn't a full disc. If I was using a broader field of view, I likely would've needed to recenter much less as I wouldn't be trying to avoid losing data from parts of the Sun moving out of frame.

Hi, Niklas, thank you so much for this tutorial. I will give it a try for my next solar animation. Do you do animated videos also (pan & zoom on special features on the disc, for example)? This is something i would like to learn, too ;-) Good luck and clear skies!

Hi Mathias, Davinci Resolve is a really incredible and popular software, pan and zoom are tutorials many big channels on youtube have covered. Most of those tutorials should also apply to editing sun timelapses aswell :) clear skies
