18/10/21 I live alone and water has been leaking into my toilet pan for sometime without my knowledge. I spoke to the only plumber who called me (they are all busy) and quoted £375 for a new toilet, as what you just showed was impossible to do! Thank you. I just want to turn the water off until a proper plumber returns my call, but you have really helped me! "I am a 77 year young female plumber to be!"

I would recommend you never use the plumber who quoted £375. I guarantee your final price will be well above this due to the fact they are a con artist.

The part costs £7-£45 you can get a decent one that you will find in most toilets for £15 the job should take no more than an hour. I did mine which was in an awkward situ it took me little over 10 minutes. The only tool I used was an adjustable spanner you might need a screwdriver too.

Just on tip you never mentioned, when you replace the flush valve you must look at the old one and take the name and number, you need to get exacty the same one to fit the other part of the fitting which is below the close coupled with. If you buy the wrong one you will have to take the world pan and the cistern apart to fit the flush valve. So when your correct flush valve arrives from eBay it's simple to turn into the bottom fitting. You will then have a spare bottom fitting which will come with the flow valve. Good luck

Perfect video for my problem - toilet running continuously. Exactly as you highlighted, the flush valve wasn’t relocating correctly and despite cleaning it the problem continued. A visit to the plumbers merchant with the entire unit and a replacement slotted straight back in and the issue was resolved. Cost £18.32. Time taken to remove and refit 10 minutes. At the plumbers merchants remember to specify whether the toilet is push-button or lever operated as the mechanisms are not interchangeable. A big thumbs up for clear concise instructions, they certainly gave me the confidence to have a go.

Thank you so much for this ... after an hour trying to close the ancient cock stop in the kitchen and 30 mins persuading the top half of the flush valve to come free, I replaced it with the new part and hey presto! I have a properly flushing loo again and no continuous waterfall into the pan! One very happy old woman here. xx

This really helps. Thank you for posting this video. In my case, only the button was broken. Managed to find a replacement. But this video helped me to understand what exactly is required to fix. The tutorial helped me to understand when exactly a valve replacement is required. Instead of buying the whole valve, i fixed the issue only with the flush button. Flush button are available for sale in most hardware stores. Take care

It's very easy my friend to say replace this or buy another one of these but unfortunately there are literally hundreds of variations and brands and if you do not have a brand name and number you have little chance of finding parts so I always recommend installing a branded unit and they all tend to last ten to fifteen years at that point you may be still able to pick up the replacements you refer to good luck people

Pretty much the same issue I have... the chances of finding the exact same replacement part(s) for a 15+ year-old cistern are practically zero. I would love to try replacing the washer(s) on the inlet valve mechanism - I have diagnosed that is the issue, from testing - but apart from now knowing how to remove the inlet valve for easier access (even though the video fast-forwarded through that part, I got the idea!) I still have no idea how to dismantle MY particular valve assembly to get at the suspected faulty washer(s)?!! Still, at least I learned something...

Hi Robert, the new one I installed in this video is by Viva, and was bought from Screwfix. Part number 940HR. Viva Bottom-Entry Skylo Fill Valve 15mm. I'm not aware of any vendor selling the seals alone, which seems terrible for the environment

@Artexic
@Artexic 3 жыл бұрын
@@dwaynegreen5556 Hi Dwayne, even if it looks different you'll still have an inlet and outlet like I showed so should still have the same potential scenarios. If the overflow pipe is in use it is probably the float positioning or the seal in your inlet. If you identify the inlet you should be able to follow similar checks on your unit All the best

I've got a drippy toilet with push button on the top and isolated it today to find that when I came back in and turned the isolator tap back on, water rushed in to refill the cistern which must have been partially drained. Not opened up yet but I'm assuming this means the flush/release valve is leaking? Thanks for a really good, in depth trouble shooting video.

Doh! I've just moved into a place temporarily which has water flowing into the overflow tube - but the plumbing is all enclosed behind the cistern somehow. Would be happy to replace the filling valve, if only I could find how to get to it. I hate these stupid 'modern' properties with aesthetics more than practicality in mind. Great video nonetheless.

Great video, explains the potential problems very well. My problem is that the flush valve doesn't seal properly. Where you shook it and the valve dropped - that just doesn't happen with mine so water leaks into the pan as fast as it comes into the cistern. Now I know how to fix it myself. Many thanks. I have bought a new unit to just replace the removable unit (I don't need to replace the rest of it) but the old one doesn't seem to release! I can twist it as you show but can't seem to pull it apart from the base. Any ideas or just use a bit more force?! (existing and new units are both Fluidmaster brand). TIA

EXCELLENT PRESENTATION, both my toilets have been problamatic in recent months. Trouble is, whenever I look for help on YT , NONE of the vids, have ever shown the same inner's, that my two have. INCREDIBLE--just how many models are there, to do such a simple job ? There is some hope here though, one toilet's Cistern has a slight but continuos run of water, AFTER, it has refilled the cistern, but somehow, it never goes over a certain level mark, that i have put on the inside wall. Another mystery, is that the overflow, which is just a straight upright plastic pipe; has a black plastic cap on it . HOW, would a full overflow of water, escape down the pipe, and avoid a flooding ? unless, as shown here, the water is running down the toilet pan, back wall,? I shall test and report back.

If you have a vanity unit combined with a sink unit plus back to wall toilet it is not a simple fix. Also let water flush any debris while the top of the arm is off. My new unit has this problem and because the cistern only has a small access opening will have to cut and enlarge to gain more access to service it.

Very comprehensive thanks, I have both issues and have had since not long after these were purchased new when I moved in. These designs are made to not last long. My mum has an old house and after 50 years her ball valve system is still working as it should. It's just covered in cobwebs. I wish they still made them like this. It's just a little old fashioned having the feed going in for the side at the top, but they last forever. These plastic valves need working on every few years
