I had 2 cable not working and during this lock down, was feeling helpless, so I just tried hard to clean the previous non working cable and had plan to open it later if cleaning doesn't work. Luckily it's working. I cleaned the accumulated carbon by using vegetable peeler tip and then took a drop of hand sanitiser(someone had suggested in another video to clean with alcohol but I had no alcohol at home). I took a drop of hand sanitiser and cleaned by using thumb only. Cotton cloth can be used I guess. Shared my experience. I liked this video and will experiment it for sure in future in case my cable won't start working after cleaning.

Although this video makes it look easy to repair (which it isn't), it should always be improvised to always secure the charger by covering up all the extra openings that were stripped off to reveal the insides with something such as shrink wrap.

You shouldn’t use a knife to cut the cable how you did as you risk cutting into the data cables.. the correct way is to split the outer cable at the top and pull it apart (or use the string if there is one) . Then use cutters to remove the outside..
