Plugged it in using 5VDC/1A power brick and put a metal Dremel in backwards. Polished off the chrome with 1000 grit sand paper and it worked great. What is the white soldering powder (or is it flux) you are using? But I have to ask, why not sell some of these tools on the site when you have so many people asking for them? Or maybe put monetized links in the video description? Great job, looking forward to more works or art, not just the repair but the videography and editing as well.

Only Apple's obscene margins justify, from an economic point of view, it being more advantageous to buy a device with 128GB and pay to carry out an extremely complex job like this instead of buying a device with 1TB directly from the factory. For Apple, the difference in cost between a device with 128GB and 1TB must be in the region of cents
@LordPrecision6 ай бұрын
Actually these NAND chips do cost a lot. Not as much as apple charges of course, but still - quality ones are expensive. Cheap ones are used (and\or) are from rejects (and\or) the really low grade

why the original ram chip cannot be heated dissembled and needed to be milled out away?

@@ray-charc3131 128 GB does not have much value to these people in 2024
@LindonSlaght6 ай бұрын
@@ray-charc3131 because there is glue under it that would damage the board if it was removed that way. Believe me, CNC is not easier than just heating and lifting off, if it could be done either way it'd be done with heat.

Its amazing when looking back in the future on these if they still exist... how far technology has come along to be able to figure this stuff out and having visual instructions on how to do these. Wither it be, India or China or US or home made... Pretty neat stuff that you can just peel stuff apart and upgrade it if you know how they function.

I’d love to know what the tool is that is used for cleaning up the residual glue @04:20 I can think of many uses for such a tool

It looks to just be a long black (probably magnetic) screwdriver they're spinning around against the residual to make it come off

Nice work! But will it be cheaper than buying directly a 1tb version? And I can forget about the warranty, right? :D
@querela922 ай бұрын
@DasKroenerTier warranty probably voided. I guess Apple might track the hardware configurations using serial numbers. Whether this is detected when someone repairs it, who knows. And if I know someone who can do mods like this, repairs can probably be done, too. So, unless it is completely unrecoverable... As for costs, it might be a bit cheaper. But this really looked professional.

Let's give a Middle finger to Apple and Samsung for making so difficult to fix or upgrade anything.
@legendforever70366 ай бұрын

@LeitoAE6 ай бұрын
Not only Apple and Samsung. Most smartphone manufacturers sell phones without micro SD card slots nowadays. Instead, you have to purchase higher capacity storage version for 10 times the storage cost. I was upgrading my phone last year and it was very difficult to find a mid range phone with micro SD slot, 4k video recording and I needed something quite fresh, to receive security updates for a while. The market is a garbage now. The worst thing is that those stupid iPhones are making more sense now, because if I buy iPhone 15, I will receive updates for 5-6, maybe even 7 years. To have similar updates period in Android, I will have to switch my phone twice during that time, so iPhone is paradoxically more affordable... The only reason I didn't buy myself iPhone yet is that they sh*t on Polish customers. None of their services work here. They didn't even add a Polish language to they keyboard! I know that this is not a big country, but language in keyboard is pretty much essential thing, that is also super easy to add and makes no costs for apple...
