Yes, these pH probes dry out if stored in their cover, so soak before use for 24h preferably in 3m KCl solution but tap water will do also as stated in the manual. The problem is the calibration, it does not work as mentioned in the manual. The meter will adjust to 4.01 if stored in anything that gives a readout below 6.5 and cal is pressed longer than 3s, will calibrate to 6.86 if stored in anything that gives a readout between 6.5 and 7.5 and to 9.18 if stored in anything that gives a readout above 7.5, so the region where it goes to 6.86 is very narrow. And it takes some time to stabilize, give it a minute in buffer solution. By removing the battery, it resets jammed calibration. The extensive cleaning is usually not neccessary, only milk should be cleaned with pepsine. The problem I have is the 6.86 buffer solution, that gives 6.65 if tested with a professional calibrated probe, so the reading of this cheap probe is approx. 0.3 too high, but the buffer solution is packed by the dealer, not the manufacturer. But the technical quality of the cheap probe is nothing to complain about, it's the one tap software for calibration.

I don't think disrltilled water should read zero.... that's a steel dissolving acid. 7 ish would be preferable but electrically measuring ph on distilled water is not accurate.

Just open it up -take the batteries out and put all pieces into a bag of rice overnight, or until dry. Check to make sure it’s all dry inside and replace the batteries. You’ll be up and testing your sugar washes, fish tanks, or like, you know… your methamphetamines or whatever. Lol. I dropped mine into my sugar wash and I thought it was done for sure, but I rinsed that bad boy out and dried it up and it worked until I broke the glass bulb when taking it out of the black cap. Lol

Great Vid! My meter hasn't been used for a while and rinsed with tap water, so now readings jump up, down, zero and keeps repeating until eventually landing in zero. Going to try your method and do a full recal to pH water used for garden vegetable seeds germinating. Ever consider sharing your methods on how you get your PPM and pH died in via diy/budget method? Would ❤ to see that! Thanks again, and happy holidays to you and your fam!

I have a meter from Amazon that is very similar to this BUT it automatically chooses the calibration solution rather than having to press the CAL button. Pressing CAL puts it into calibration mode, but subsequent presses do nothing, it automatically decides which solution it must be in. This is BAD. It thinks my 6.86 solution is 9.18. It thinks my 4,01 solution is 6.86. I'm stuck, IDK what to do.

Ideally the little glass bulb should be continuously immersed in KCl solution in distilled water (4M). I wouldn't also use isopolypropylene alcohol on something that would be use in aquarium tank later on. There is no residue requiring non-polar solvents on it anyway. Use some acid solution to dissolve carbonates, that's it. PS especially using so much of isopolypropylene alcohol is NOT ecological friendly, my friend :)
@MrDabrudda2 жыл бұрын
There is really no way to keep this meter's bulb submerged unless you stored it in a container of solution. I have an Arduino ph meter with a plastic screw on cap that I fill with distilled water with the pH adjusted to 4. I use there meters for making batches of liquid fertilizer for my plants and garden.
@generalawareness1012 жыл бұрын
Incorrect, as IPA is environmentally friendly and Isopropyl alcohol is a natural product found in Mycoacia uda, Citrus hystrix, and other organisms. Not sure why you would think it wasn't ecologically friendly. Use 10k metric tonnes of it if needed.

DO NOT WHIPE WITH PAPER TOWEL!!! Do some more research. If you're going to dry it, use a cloth, and gently dab. Rubbing it can cause static to mess up the probe, these are VERY sensitive.
