This is a great example of how we often see something like an eq move and we think "no way, I can't do that..." Being willing to make huge moves when they are needed, is once of the hardest things to overcome when starting out. The compression made a huge difference in both color and presence.

I like your channel, bravo. A nice lesson that's missing in depth, is how to make vocals (especially female) to stand in the mix, without loosing others instruments that are needed to be heard clearly ( like a lead guitar maybe). Adding in vocals thickness, EQing properly in mids, in side...generally in depth lesson!

Maybe they used the foam ball thingy on the microphone during recording thats why it sounded muffled? This is really similar sound to what it does based on experience using one of those.

HUGE difference. Nice work. When the vocal started, I was thinking "time to get out the ProQ3 and Pro MB". Lol. I guessed that there would be another comp toward the end - then a touch of verb and delay. I didn't see the CLA coming though. I also half-expected a Kiive Distinct Pro in there too for a little more saturation. Great video. Thanks, Rhys.

Really loving the content you are making so thank you! Could you speak to that super stuttering/sizzle-y (terrible term and questionable spelling, my apologies) sibilance sound on "Ssss-unny day" that is happening even in the unprocessed vocal track? What can cause that? A Mic or something happening on the way in? I also had this on one of my tracks and almost tore my hair out trying to figure out what was the cause.

Yeah definitely, but a rode and a Neumann should never sound muffled unless there is something wrong with them 😅 proximity will make it more bass heavy!

Yes, correct. Performance was recorded with 2 mics. The one for acoustic guitar is quite Ok and voice bleeding is workable but the one for the voice (ribbon mic) has too much acoustic bleeding

@@spinlightstudios Ye it has to be right, either that or something very similar at least. It has that sound of a really old, moving coil dynamic mic, that needs to have the coil replaced (as well as a good grill cleaning). After a few years the top end starts to roll off of them as they fill up with spit and dirt, and eventually, if left to get really bad, sounds like you've got socks in your mouth when you speak into it! xD
