Fix: Muffler hole patch - solid patch

A temporary fix for a muffler hole. A solid fix using metal and rivets. Not some tape bandage with cement that cracks and falls off.

This the best fix and it can last years. Short metal screws instead of rivets will do just fine as well.

They actually don’t the screws work loose , exhausts rattle in a car you realise

Screws will always vibrate loose, rivets only.

Steel and aluminum together will cause galvanic corrosion. This repair will not last.

I've had this idea but wasn't sure if the rivets would hold up to the high heat but looks like it will. Did you use just regular coil stock (what you would use for flashing or fascia on a roof)??? Nice to have somebody else as the "Guinea pig" for once :) nice work

I just looked in my scrap pile and found a used piece that I figured would work. Think it came off roof before.

Your super lucky it lasted. Hole in an atv muffler and it keeps shaking and destroying metal

Atv muffler, cut a can wrap muffler area with a few large hose clamps. I fixed dirt bikes that way 30 years ago...

I had someone weld my muffler bc i had a hole in it bc my hanger fell off. Do you recommend to go get a new muffler and hanger?

Without a hanger in that position there will be more stress on the exhaust so eventually it might force a break elsewhere where rusty. But that could be a while. Best would be to safely add a support where the hanger was. Welds are common on exhausts.

My thought was rivets would not vibrate out. So I did not try sheet metal screws. A stove pipe uses screws but doesn’t get the same vibrations.
