aluminium fly screen mesh is better for strengthening, you can also do same with silicone caulk, most silicones go up to about 300degC, but there are some higher temp ones, or you can mix in copper powder to normal silicone to increase its temp resistance.

Rutland Furnace Cement would probably work better as it's designed to adhere to metal.

I will have to try to remember that. I put a new resonator on but if it sprouts a hole I will try that. Thanks for the tip. Please like and subscribe

If the mortar doesn't require air to cure, I've used Saran wrap over the epoxy patches I do on whitewater canoes to smooth things out and then tape it down with 12 strips of duct tape; one at each position on an analog clock face. Pulling slightly on the wrap with each succeeding piece of tape so the wrinkles don't become an issue and the Saran Wrap doesn't tear. I start with the 12/3/6/9 o'clock positions and then add the other 8 pieces. Then one of the small foam rollers the hardware stores sell can be lightly rolled over the the repair from the center and out radially to work the air bubbles out of the laminate. Then you CAN go to the auto show...... I've yet to have the Saran Wrap stick to any repair which makes me wonder how it sticks to pots and pans......lol. Not everybody has a roll of style 285 Kevlar cloth in their shop, but I'v had really good luck repairing the Stainless steel muffler and resonator on my 2000 Tundra truck. Even after 23 years of road salt, even the SS units eventually fail at the seam. I used the high heat JB weld and although it's pretty viscous for saturating aramid fibers, I was able to work it in 4 layers of Kevlar making 4 strips the full lenth of the seam ( eventually what's still intact will fail down the road) starting with a 4" wide piece followed by a 3", 2", and a 1" piece laminated on a slightly larger piece of Saran Wrap and then you have a fairly clean method of slapping on the entire repair after you wet out the muffler side. Slap the patch on the muffler and tape it down, roll out the air and wipe off the excess goo that passes out the edges of the plastic wrap. I've tried the Kevlar "felt" material canoe dealers sell for grunch pads on the ends of their whitewater canoes, but it soaks up a lot of resin and the kevlar cloth is stronger and heck, if it can tolerate the re-entry temps on the hulls on the space flights, I'm sure it will tolerate the exhaust temps of most non-turbo vehicles. My first repair lasted a year and a half and getting ready to redo it before winter decides it's time to head our way....I do like your "quick and dirty " repair" and the price IS RIGHT. Thanks for posting.

Nice idea 👍 Guess that stuff for "stove and fireplace" is a lot cheaper then anything from a car shop?? But why the tin foil? Didn't get that part. I'll guess I would have gone for a little piece of mesh to give it structure, but I never did a repair like this yet. ( need to soon though...)
@BillOfAllTrades20164 ай бұрын
The foil was a cheap reinforcement because the mortar gets brittle over time and splits again. I did not have any mesh on me but that would be more durable and long lasting. Thanks for the tip. And thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

Love it. My Rv muffler exploded earlier this yr due to a flooding carburetor.. i took 2 smaller load straps just to ratchet it back into shape.. then welded it as best i cud in the very tight spot. Had little clearance for welding unless i was to remove the drive shaft. It actually sound real good (nice mean sound like these new muscle cars) .. but i want it a little quieter (it used to be considerably quiet for a 454 big block Chevy with dual exhaust.. just 1 exploded. So now this remedy you used seems pretty clever. I think ill try it, but leave a slight crack, open spot Haha... so it still sounds a little mean, and when cool air goes into a cracked muffler u get some popping upon decelleration lol

Hi I have a ? Something under my car is make a loud noise at first I was literally noise but know it’s a loud noise what wrong
@BillOfAllTrades20165 күн бұрын
If you are looking to get an online diagnosis you need to be far more specific than that. Literally every component under your vehicle makes a noise… and when any component fails usually the noise gets louder as it worsens. Describe the noise please in detail. What year make and model is the vehicle, when is the noise occurring. Always? Only at certain speeds? I’m gonna assume it’s an exhaust noise because you are commenting on an exhaust video but I have literally no information to go on here. Have you got under the car to look at where the noise could be coming from? Even if you diagnose it as exhaust noise it could be a hole in the muffler, hole in the resonator, hole in the pipe. Could be a cracked manifold. Maybe someone stole your catalytic converter.
