A shoutout to for your initial video. Thank you! I posted just a few hours ago and as of this writing, I’m watching the mechanical contractor's vehicle leaving our property. I let him know the error code 598-00 and that I have already gone through the “Installers Menu” to determine it is a PCB setting the current time issue. He is required to call Navien’s Technical Support to troubleshoot the issue. Naviens first line of defence is the homeowner or contractor question. After he confirmed “contractor”, their Level 1 response was “It is a PCB issue” but my contractor wanted to troubleshoot further since he was already here and she passed him to a Level 2 tech. While waiting for the Level 2 tech, the contractor and I talked about the past PCB issue and the steps I took to troubleshoot the issue. And surprise, surprise, the Level 2 tech and my contractor did exactly what I did the previous day and came to the same conclusion. “You need a new PCB!” and it will arrive at my doorstep (not the contractors) tomorrow. PS: That service call came with a $175 bill to have the contractor talk to the Navien tech and confirm what I already knew. Hmmm 1. Since July/2021 this will be the third PCB in my NPE-210A2. Although the parts are covered for 5 years…what happens after the warranty? What will the cost be to purchase their proprietary PCB? 2. Are Navien’s PCBs defective or planned obsolescent? If they need surge protection for the board then why not make it a requirement at the purchase or installation stage? 3. Since the end user is the owner of the unit, shouldn’t they be able to talk to a Level 2 tech as displayed on their “User’s Information Manual”? It states “For warranty service, always Contact Technical Support first."

Wow, that's quite a journey! I've had my unit for going on 18 months now and no more problems since this error. Hoping the PCB board doesn't flake, I would expect a recall if this is common but that all comes down to the manufacturer's level of sales and whether or not they can justify it vs. just continuing to cover under warranty. The main warning to homeowners is calling a service department is definitely going to charge you, regardless of what they find and honestly that shouldn't be the case.

Thanks a million! You're a lifesaver. I just did the factory reset, and it's working perfectly now. No more annoying orange blinking light! 😊 P.S.: The Navien rep told me to get a new front panel or contact the contractor to come and take a look.

Thanks a lot DIY jones. I think this fixed my problem. My only question was about the recirculating. I don’t know if I have that or not, but I just went with not having it like you did.
@DIY-Jones7 ай бұрын
Thanks! I suspect you would know if you have the recirculating option or not. Just to be safe, you might want to check your manual (or view the manual online, I think I showed a link in the video). If you have a copy of your order/invoice it should clearly show if you have the recirculating option as well.

Wondering if you also got into the advanced menu and found your flame loss number of times mine 4340 times it had a flame loss second had 13 26/3 42 21/4 228 and 10th one time. I cleaned the flame rod and trying it now, but just wondering if the natural gas supply is not being consistent to the unit. Have you checked your flameout times in the advanced menu just curious.. I do have the same error code 598 that just came up on my unit

Thanks, we did have power outage recently long 8 hr one. Guess my version is newer, I did not need to factory default to set time, in the menus I found clock setting . No more error after setting time. Guess on the mother board is a small battery like a 2032 or 2025 not sure . Figure when the battery dies every power failure you will need to change clock , or replace battery every so often . I'll need to check up on that , just thinking outside the box

Just got this error. Before I do the reset, is there anything I should be concerned about? I looked through the configuration and saw that "External Recirculation" was flashing, which I am assuming means that is what I should set when I do the reset. Thanks for the help!
@String6GuitarRepair Жыл бұрын
Hi there. It seems to be somewhat "common", and potentially linked to power outage and/or fluctuations in power. Some have gone as far as connecting the unit to a UPS battery backup, which might prevent it from happening too. Regarding the external recirculation, yes you'll want to reset that to your configuration. Hope this works for you, I know it won't hurt anything to try for sure.

just responded to another viewer who mentioned their unit had the error again 2 days later. Here was my response in case it helps: he issue usually occurs when there is a power outage or spike/brown-out in your electricity (according to research I've done). Mine has not occurred again, but I'm likely on a power grid that experiences less issues. Not sure where you are located, but I would suggest adding a UPS (uninterruptible power supply), which has a battery and retains electricity to the unit in the event there is an outage. It also protects from brown-outs (drops in voltage as opposed to a black-out, or electrical outage) and "spikes" (higher voltage increases). If you don't experience lengthy power losses (5 min or more), then you are probably Ok with using a small UPS to keep the voltage consistent and if there are small outages will keep the unit running for up to 7 to 10 minutes. I would recommend one of the units described in this article: thewaternerd.com/battery-backup-for-tankless-water-heater/ And, if the only device you connect to the UPS is your Navien, you will probably be perfectly fine with this unit: www.amazon.com/dp/B0086DKFDK?tag=thewaternerd03-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 or this unit: www.amazon.com/dp/B000FBK3QK?tag=thewaternerd03-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 Hope this helps!!!

Thank for responding I just want to let you know that I’m not sure it’s the power outage because we have two units one next to each other and the other one has no issues at all. Do you have any recommendations for that? Thank you in advance.
@DIY-Jones11 ай бұрын
Hi@@kikisahinidis3281 . That is certainly unique! In this case, I feel you might be having a problem with the main PCB board (the motherboard of the unit). Is your Navien under warranty? Please watch this KZbin video that explains the issue you might be experiencing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6eQh4iMptlrlbMsi=kY5g6Eoee2mDiyEb I would still recommend getting a UPS and since you have two units you may want to get a larger one than the units I suggested. The Navien you're having issues with might still be experiencing fluctuations in AC causing it to error out. Or, it could just be a failing PCB board which needs to be replaced. Please let me know your thoughts, hoping you don't have to pay for the board as they are expensive.
