Hi sam!! I love your channel. I bought a house a couple of months ago in the south of sweden (Liatorp) and I have renovated the lawn following your videos. It was pretty messy. It is getting there but I still have patches. I think it will be, at least, a one year process. I want to ask you one question: where i can do an analysis of my soil? And if you have any tips, everything is welcome to improve my lawn 😊
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
Hey Fernando, how nice that you found my channel and you are finding the videos helpful, that's awesome man, means a lot! First off, I love that you seem to have understood that this is a long game, lawn care usually is. You say one year process instead of 1 week which usually people think it is :) I did my soil test through Xeed, there aren't that many people doing tests in Sweden unfortunately. The no 1 reason for me is the PH levels, that's what I want to see mostly. Then every 4-5 years maybe the big test to see all the nutrients. Trying out a PH meter from Amazon, if that one works well then I will skip the tests in the future. Just shout out if you have any questions, happy to help if I can. Good luck mate

Hi Sam! I just finished repairing quite a few patches on my lawn, just like you showed us in your video, thanks so much! I am waiting for germination now 😅 I used a lolium, poa and fescue mix.The temperature is between 18-28c and since I have underground irrigation it waters for 1-2 minutes, 4 times during the day to keep the seed moist. I also spread some organic fertilizer. Do you think this is ok? I am looking forward to seeing the outcome of your lawn soon.
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
Hi Lucy, awesome, now comes the waiting, the watching every day to see if something is popping up, I get so impatient during this time haha. Sounds like an awesome setup with the irrigation, then you have the annoying part all under control! Organic fertilizer is ok, usually they are ok to use when seeding, but normally I would suggest to fertilize 3 days - 1 week before seeding or after you have mowed it twice. Usually you use som topp dressing to seeds and that has nutrients already, and you don't want too much nitrogen at the start so you'll end up burning the new roots. But organic fertilizers are ok, they are usually slow release so no problem. Hope it all turns out great! Keep me posted!
@lucymoazzo3097 Жыл бұрын
Very true about the impatience for germination signs (I'll keep you posted), plus we are having rain for the next 3-4 days, so this helps , crazy weather...😁 thank you very much for your advice about fertilizing. I will definitely keep that in mind for next time.

What a funny coincidence. I'm in the process of switching to Creeping Red Fescue 60% / Kentucky Bluegrass 40% from Perrenial Rye because I'm tired of fighting winterkill every year for the last 8 years here in Canada. Hopefully you have more luck with it then me! I've heard you can add extra potassium in the fall to reduce the problem, but not sure if it works or not.
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
Hey mate. We'll see, I want the stolons to have a chance to develop fully and improve the soil a bit, if none of that helps then I will definitely add some creeping red fescue to the mix, winterkill is no fun when it's too much. The only grass i won't be using is KBG, the germination time is just too long, I usually go crazy before it starts to germinate 😅 Hope you're happy with the new mix, I'm sure you will love the red fescue, it's an awesome grass type!

Hey Sam, good to see you back on it again this season! I wonder how your Hunter rotator sprinkler setup is doing? I am considering trying a pair of mp2000 on opposite sides of the lawn (it's 6x10m) on spikes. I'm struggling to find out exactly what riser I need to go from the metal spikes (3/4" I think) to the inlet at the bottom of the 4" hunter spray body. On a side note, it might have been worth aerating the front lawn & try to get some of your manure/compost mix down into the holes.
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
Hey Chris. They are doing ok, I only have two left that I use. Had to dig up the rest when I installed a new robo mower cable and I haven't had time to put them back yet. But the two I have are working just fine. The only problem with this setup is the limitation of only being able to use 3 at once due to the pressure. I am pretty sure I am not getting 100% coverage. If you have a smaller lawn then it would be perfect but for a larger lawn maybe a fully installed irrigation system would be better. I actually did hollow core aerate the front before I put on the soil improvement, I showed a picture in the last video but totally forgot to say it or show it in this one. But good catch mate! If you don't hollow core aerate the soil improvement is far less effective.

@@SamsLawn Ah good man, glad you did it. Would have been a missed opportunity if not. Water pressure is my biggest worry with any sprinkler, I've tried 2 x impact sprinklers before & the pressure is limited massively when I connected the second sprinkler. I may just stick to the Gardena oscillator, try removing the wire filter & replace with just an o-ring and see if I get more water out of it. It's not bad as is, but it could be better imo. I did read that a 3/4" hose between the sprinklers would help reduce the pressure loss. But frankly it's all too much messing about to replace something that works & I only need to move it once to cover the entire lawn. I mixed up a batch of the summer stress liquid application this weekend, keen to see how that pans out over the summer. So it's a new robo mower in the box?! Or is that your old one? I went for a mountfileld 421r hp rear roller in the end. It's heavy, but is a big improvement over the little Bosch rotak I had.
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
@@chriscole3624 Moving it once seems like it would be fine but then again, we lawn nerds tend to look for that perfect 100% solution 😅 I have seen some people who install a pump between the tap and the hose to increase the pressure, seems to work pretty good. But I think installing underground irrigation is the way to go at the end. We'll see what's in the box :D
@chriscole3624 Жыл бұрын
@@SamsLawn Yep, looked into pumps & then I realised I should have had a couple of water butts collecting rainwater all winter (too late now). Maybe later in the year 😂 It's an endless cash vacuum this rectangular patch of grass! Keeps me busy though 😀

Hey Sam, since you had so many bare spots, how come you didn't do an entire overseed process with dethaching and etc etc. I feel you about the mosquitos thought, scraching my self like maniac while watching your video from all the damn mosquito bites from earlier today.
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
Hey mate, I just felt that would be too big of a project, the lawn is full of small small patches but overall the back and the side look pretty ok, thought I could get away with just fixing spots, but maybe I should have just overseeded the entire thing. Hopefully when the RPR stolons are fully developed next year, the smaller patches will fix themselves. Me too mate, scratching like crazy, must have 50-60 bites from these last few days :)
