Fix the Flexi #2 - Mark Szorady's Flexi

Here is my second try at fixing a Pearl Flexi. I thought we could try the Rex Ambassador Spring method but unfortunately even with that the spring still needed some grinding on the ends.

Heiko, thank you so much for fixing my extra Pearl Flexi OC! Fantastic job!! Great information! To set the record straight, part of the trouble with the razor, I think, was my own doing. I attempted to fix a slight calibration error. Pearl had sent the razor for review. I notified them of this slight problem and, as I understand it, they took the appropriate action. However, they never sent a return label. So, I had this razor that I could fiddle around with and attempted to perhaps fix/tweak myself. By the way, Viewer Wally Pankowski very kindly sent me a Pearl Flexi OC and I reviewed it on my channel. I love the both the Pearl Flexi and Flexi OC.:) I sometimes think I see an imbalance in the blade gap, and other times, I do not. Now, in taking apart the razor myself, I may have busted those threads a bit. Because things were really bonded together due to Loctite. I was unaware of the Loctite being used until Isaw Heiko's video. Iwish I had seen his video first. Again, part of the razor's trouble was of my own doing in trying to take it apart. When I saw Heiko's video on the Pearl Flexi and spring issue, I sent him this extra Pearl Flexi for repair. Heiko did an amazing job and I was glad he was able to put together this very informative video! Heiko emailed me to say that this fixed razor is on its way back. So, It'll be going into the 10,000 subscriber prize package pool with my sincere thanks to Heiko! When it arrives I'll make the announcement on the "Monday Morning Mailbag." Regarding the bowed cap, I don't' see too much of the bowing myself. I think it's negligible But perhaps this adds a bit of character to the razor? Thank you again, Heiko and great channel!!

I'll chime in, this was an ectra Pearl razor they sent for review. The error was my fault, not theirs. Callibration was off and i attempted a fix and messed it up. A big thanks to Heiko!:)

Thanks for the video! I've been considering this razor but Pearl seems to not be very good (or interested) in improving quality, given this problem was reported years ago when the first edition was released.

Mensch Heiko, du haust ja fast alle zwei Tage ein neues Video raus. Bei so viel Tempo kann ja kaum jemand mithalten 🏃🏼‍♂ Respekt 👍 Dass die Kopfplatten vom Flexi nicht immer 100%ig gerade geschliffen sind, hat auch die Flexi-Version von Artur Gatzke recht eindeutig belegt (glaube er hatte dir das Foto auch zugesendet). Die Qualitätskontrolle bei Pearl, scheint nicht unbedingt die Beste zu sein. Da bin ich wirklich froh, dass ich diese Probleme an meinem Flexi nicht habe. Schöne Grüße Jörg

Ich muss irgendwann mal auf die Bremse treten. Ich könnte die Videos ein wenig großflächiger auf dem Kalender verteilen. Mal schauen wo sich das alles so einpendelt. Ich bin ziemlich enttäuscht mit der ganzen Flexi Geschichte. Ich dachte, der Flexi könnte der Rex für den kleinen Mann sein aber bei all diesen Problemen kann da keine Empfehlung aussprechen. Great video Heiko! I wonder why when the Rex spring is in the Rex it’s perfect alignment?

With the Rex all the parts fit together much tighter and don't have as much play. I don't know if you remember the first video., I showed all the parts and how much play they all have. The Rex is manufactured to much tighter tolerances.

Gruesse aus England Heiko :) Just wondering if Pearl have confirmed they have fixed this issue and the ones being sold will be all OK now. I'm on the fence whether to buy this or another OC razor - any recommendation? Keep doing the great videos

They never confirmed it. You could just order from Amazon, inspect and if it is bad return it. My recommendation for an affordable, adjustable open comb goes to the Parker Variant Open Comb. For a closed comb my recommendation goes to the yaqi Ultima brass and my recommendation for a slant adjustable goes to the yaqi Ultima slant.

Oh great, yet another potential flaw with the Pearl Flexi. There are now enough errors to be able to create a bingo card and then to play flexi-flaws-bingo. With my Pearl Flexi I would complete the bingo card pretty well.

Moral of the video: "Do not purchase a Pearl Flexi" there are many misalignment problems and the company isn't taking any responsability fixing or replacing the razor... Greetings my friend 👋
